A beautiful property with attentive staff
My husband and I stayed at Secrets Akumal without really knowing anything about the property but were delighted. The staff is friendly and they are helpful. The pools are kept up well. They offer opportunities to have fun from snorkeling, volleyball, ballroom dance lessons and biking trip into town. There were opportunities to be "upsold" into other packages. We ignored them, but saw others taking advantage - so to each his/her own.
Our trip to Secrets Akumal was our third trip a secrets property after having tried out The Vine, Mujures, Moon Palace, Unico and Sandals all-inclusive resorts in the past. The room was very spacious, we stayed in rooms 1105 and 1205 as my daughter was staying on this trip. The bed matress was a little hard but they offer bed toppers which help. Every day we had our room clean and turn down service. We had swim up pool which was nice but take you mosquito cream/spray as they are all over the resort. The Italian Restaurant is the best place to eat - food amazing Mexico Restaurant the service could of been better, but I think they are short staffed. Hester Ramos and Felipe Bautista are the most hard-working waiters around the pool. They don’t stop and really care about serving you. They are a credit to the resort. Aracelo are concierge lady is also wonderful and takes care of all our needs. The sppa is a must and well trained sstaff for all treatments, my husband wnt every day. The resort has a lovely beach. This resort is so clean. The people make your holiday not the hotel Date of stay: August 2019
First All Inclusive Vacation- Fantastic!
My wife and I had not been away on a real vacation in twenty years. This resort did not disappoint. Every employee was friendly and more than willing to help us with resurrecting our high school Spanish language classes. The food was amazing. There was not a single food item that I disliked, and I did not go with the safe bet, room service hamburger. I often went outside of my comfort zone and was glad that I did. There was nothing that got sent back because it wasn't right or it just didn't suit my tastes. The Food Service Concierge, Pamela ("Pam Cakes"!) was unbelievably accommodating and put together an extremely elegant, private dinner for us and our group. It was a dinner engagement that we will always remember. We spent every day at the large pool closest to the beach. The swim up bar was a great feature. The pool side wait staff was again, phenomenal. Ivan, the pool concierge, was great at checking on us periodically and making sure that we were not in need of anything. We had Esther as our pool service waitress for all but one of our days there. Esther was phenomenal. She was on top of everything for us- always checking on our drinks and food. There was a full guest entertainment team that spent the entire day in and around the pool. They engaged with any of the guests that wanted to participate in their days activities- yoga, volley ball, basket ball, exercise bikes, etc... We chose the route of relaxation and did not participate in any of that but it was fun to watch and the were more than happy to engage in conversation and chat.
This was our 2nd visit to a Secrets resort, the 1st being Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica. The common theme between these resorts is the high end quality and customer service. Our UVC concierge (Gabby) exceeded expectations. She was warm and welcoming and greeted us with excellent service. The resort is located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. This was ideal in that it allowed access to a wide range of activities: Cenotes, pyramids, restaurants, shopping etc. A huge plus is that the resorts beach was located near a sea turtle preserve. Also, the beach was well kept and free of the seaweed that has been a plague to the area. This was due to the hard work of a team of individuals dedicated to the task. Overall, we had an excellent stay. The restaurants and food were very good. The shows and entertainment were excellent as well. There are areas for improvement however: The common areas (bars/showroom/theater) are not AIR CONDITIONED! It would be nice if there were a few comfortable locations to enjoy drinks. Mexico can be very hot and humid! Checkout billing. The bill was in Spanish and had several errors which took an hour to sort out. For example, I was charged for 5 bottles of wine vs the 4 that were purchased. One of the bottles was $200! Also, UVC touts that members receive 25% discounts on purchases made onsite. I was expecting this discount at checkout only to find that retail stores were not included! Even the spa was not discounted although we were told that it was prior to use. We were told at checkout that the couples massage was already discounted and that no further discounts could be applied. We disagreed since the brochure price is what we ended up paying. This whole process left a bad impression to an otherwise enjoyable stay. Recommend that you review the bill a day before checkout to avoid confusion.
