Breakfast, lunch, dinner, pupus (delectable snacks), and a full complement of tropical cocktails - eat, indulge, enjoy. Don't be surprised if you are joined by visiting celebrities! And beginning in late October, Humpback whales are frequently seen frolicking just off the beach.

    Beautiful Views

We stayed at this Resort for four days. The room was comfortable with a beautiful view. Few disappointments--the toilet leaked and we reported to maintenance but no one ever fixed it; somewhat outdated. Restaurant was good.

Great value, wonderful people, perfect location

There are so many aspects of this hotel that I loved—and we've stayed all over Maui, at many other properties in the recent past. The Royal Lahaina seems to attract nice guests and families from all over, which makes for a very friendly vibe around the hotel grounds. We booked a Molokai suite, which had unreal ocean views (on 2 sides with 2 lanai's!!). We love AC but ended up opening the sliders at night and falling asleep with the waves crashing beneath us. It was perfect. The beach is steps from the pool, and it's so lovely. The tennis ranch and luau on the grounds were pleasant surprises, too. We'll definitely be back. aloha!

    Needs Updated

My wife and I came here 13 years ago for our honeymoon. I think they have the same furnishings or even went out and bought older ones at a thrift store. I wasn’t impressed with the room. It was clean for the most part, but the carpet was dirty and beat up. The fridge was missing the knob, so we couldn’t adjust it. The furniture was old and beat up and not in an “old, rustic” kind of way. Parking was terrible. It was only 15 bucks a night, but you had to park really far away. I wouldn’t say that I would never stay here, but after staying this last time, I would try somewhere different if we were to come back.

About what you'd expect for the price; fine but nothing special

We booked a spacious two-bedroom suite that served our needs but was in need of updating. The showers were functional but not very nice. The pools and on-site restaurant were fine but again, nothing particularly special. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary, and had been primed to expect a "special treat" upon arrival as long as we showed a copy of our marriage license as proof; the anniversary surprise turned out to be a coupon for 20% off spa services and a certificate for a free professional portrait. While the portrait offer was nice, we were only in Maui for three days and did not have time to schedule a sitting for a time when we would be showered and "picture-ready" as opposed to wearing swimsuits or t-shirts. We'd have been happier with a simple box of chocolates, a bottle of wine, or even just coupons for free ice cream at the on-site ice cream shop. The spa coupon was essentially worthless since it required a $100 minimum spend which we had no intention of providing. It's not a gift if it requires me to spend money. That said, the views from the beach were lovely, and the staff with whom we interacted were very nice. The golf cart service carrying our bags to our suite was also nice, as it was a relatively long walk. Be forewarned, most of the nearest parking spaces are reserved for valet, so those unwilling to pay the extra valet charge will need to plan on a long walk to their car. The resort grounds were kept up nicely, and we were lucky enough to spot a sea turtle just a dozen yards or so from shore. So overall we were satisfied with our stay, but it's not a place I'd highly recommend. Apparently some suites and rooms have been recently updated (ours hadn't), so if booking I'd strongly suggest you specifically request the updated accommodations.

Clean, great location, great view, great beach access

The Royal Lahaina is a great hotel to stay in Maui. It's right on the beach, but also near all the other stuff going on. You can easily walk to e.g. Whaler's Village or any of the other resorts and restaurants. We had the ocean front room and it has a spectacular view! The rooms are well appointed, though obviously the hotel is old. Everything was clean and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant is perfectly fine, though nothing to go out of your way for if you aren't here. Only reason I'm giving this 4 instead of 5 is that there is literally no shade outside at all. If you hang at the pools, you will be blasted by the sun for most of the day. You can rent an umbrella or two-person lounge/sun protector/mini-cabana thingn for the beach and those are reasonably priced and work well, but there are no umbrellas at all on the beach decks. For me that is kinda rough. If that's not a problem for you—this place is great.
