    Needs refurbishing

The hotel needs a lot of refurbishment. The bar restaurant area has an amazing view, but all areas of the hotel have damaged areas where paint is scuffed, etc. I stayed in an ADA compliant room with my mother who is in a wheelchair. The room itself was very sparse and a bit dingy. I think this hotel was in its hay day about 20 years ago and they really need to update. We were disappointed that the lagoon area was closed. There was no information on the website to indicate this. The pool area is nice but the pool is very small. It is a great location as you can walk right in to town to restaurants and shops.

    No lagoon as advertised

Stayed for one night as a family of 4. Chose to stay at Royal Kona instead of another resort we had originally booked for 80$ less than the RK because we were arriving late and wanted to make the following day as easy for the kids as possible, thinking the kids could choose to swim in the pool or snorkel in the lagoon, which they were excited for. The lagoon was closed, and looks like it had been closed for a while. There was a sinkhole in the small patch of sand. Didn’t look like they were working on it. Kids still enjoyed the pool, but we were all disappointed about no lagoon. Otherwise the resort was as is stated in other reviews. The location was great, the views were great, the rooms were tired. The lady who checked us in was really lovely, which was such a nice feeling to start a stay with.

    Not what we expected.

We are staying at this hotel for 2 nights on our vacation. The room is very outdated, furnishings are old. We were supposed to have an ocean view room. It’s a distant view of the bay. The room overlooks the roof of the hotel and the big air conditioners or some kind of motors are constantly running loudly all day and night. The balcony is uninviting to sit out there (didn’t use it). It has old carpet, old furnishings and is loud from the constant motor noises. Can’t leave the balcony door open. It’s very disappointing coming from a prior hotel that was much nicer. We asked for a different room immediately upon arrival but were told the room available would be no better. The restaurant area has nice seating by the ocean. All in all we would not stay here again.

    Great happy hour

The rooms are really outdated. Check out. Moved to king k. Alot better. The happy hour is really good. Top shelf liquor and local beer. Reasonably priced. The hummus dip was excellent. Really nice view of the ocean. Great bar tender. The pool is small and no beach.

Classic old school Hawai’i resort living.

This is classic old school Hawai’i resort living. Rooms are well maintained, and as of Jan ‘25, they are refurbishing one of the towers, so make sure when you book they don’t put you there for a cheaper price. Amazing views and it’s right in the heart of Kona, and within walking distance to everything. The pool overlooks the crashing surf, and their LUAU is wonderful. Sunsets are right there. It’s got it all.
