Ever since it opened as the original RIU Resort in Riviera Maya, Riu Yucatan has been a leading choice for families and couples! Themed in an early Mexican Colonial style, the resort features a lobby modeled after an authentic Mexican town with hand-painted frescos of flowers, angels, and clouds. Relax beneath one of the many palm trees sprinkled along the white sand beach, or enjoy the array of watersports in the clear waters of the Caribbean.
Four restaurants feature a variety of dining choices. The Hacienda Restaurant extends to a terrace amidst jungle greenery, offering a great variety of tantalizing buffets and on-the-spot cooking. Guests are sure to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Margarita's specialty restaurant, as they dine alongside the large pool area and take part in the delightful theme nights. Shanghai, the Asian restaurant, serves amazing buffets. Snacks are available 24-hours a day and the five bars, including two swim-up bars, serve unlimited drinks.
Activities abound at this non-stop resort! Enjoy watersports such as kayaking or body boarding, or venture over to the 18-hole golf course nearby! For a soothing experience, sip a sunset cocktail in one of four bars or pamper yourself at Renova Spa. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).
Every evening, live entertainment, and music provide the perfect show right before heading off to bed. Riu Yucatan has exchange privileges with Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar (dinner dining excluded), so entertainment is never in short supply!

Lets start with this review of riu yucatan its a nice clean resort the beach and water is outstanding much better than Cancun its very easy to get beds aswell no matter what time you go i can't comment on the pool never had any interest in it when you have Caribbean sea in front of you yes you get some see weed but depends on the weather not the hotels fault.Ok the food its good but can get boring the first night we arrived was lovely beef in black bean was lovely but never seen again just the same things but dont let that put you off.The steak house was nice me and my wife both enjoyed our steaks cooked right now the drinks are good and remember when going to the bar tip them once at least 20 pesos they are so greatfull and will look after you all night. Entertainment does suck this what lets this resort down in the night there is no good entertainment they should just have some music playing around the bar or something yes you can go to tequila across the street but when its so humid at night you don't want to walk far if you want a relaxing time its great if you want more life in the night go to Cancun the staff work extremely hard and are great would i go back yes i would its a nice resort in a safe guarded area but please riu do something for people in the evening thats the only down fall when a 30 minute show ends just play some music so some people can dance if they want you have the room
Family time in Mexico
We stayed here 26th July - 9th Aug 2019 I emailed the hotel in advance to request a room with a king size bed and a single bed which they were happy to accommodate. The rooms were of a good size and the beds were comfortable. We had issue with the air conditioning not working properly. They sent over maintenance staff immediately to fix the problem but don’t believe it worked properly throughout out entire stay. We had to leave the ceiling fan on the fastest setting every night causing us to have ear aches and sore throats. Also it is worth noting that the bathroom does not have a door. There is a door on the small toilet cubicle but when you have a shower (plain glass cubicle) everyone in the room can see you! Not ideal when you have teenagers in the room. We made a make shift screen by hanging a towel across the door to create a little privacy. House keeping was fantastic. Yolanda kept our room beautifully clean with some lovely towel art! Every member of staff you encountered said hola as they passed you. The meals were good. Plenty of choice for even the fussiest of eaters! Must mention Toro our evening waiter. Such a lovely man. Pools were a little dirty with sunscreen etc but they were cleaned several times daily. Drinks were fantastic. Definitely not watered down. The beach was great. There is an issue with seaweed at the moment but they work hard every morning clearing as much as they can. We still swam in the sea and it didn’t impact on our holiday. The entertainment team could do better. Need to interact with the guests more. It was a novelty seeing the animals in the hotel grounds. The Howler Monkeys are fun to watch Overall a good experience. We will definitely return to Mexico but not at this hotel due to the bathroom set up not working for us and the air con
Absolutely wonderful resort, returned on 7th August and will be back. Staff are so friendly and hard working, constantly cleaning the resort , special thanks to our cleaner (room 7223) was spotless and to Avelino in main restaurant who always friendly and accommodating for breakfast in morning. Such a variety of food and plentiful , great cocktails to try. Animation team work really hard and shows are great in the evening to wind down to, Beach resort has lots of activities and sea is clear. Rooms are clean and have widescreen t.v.’s but you don’t go on holiday to sit in your room. Suggestion as staff are all hard working why not have a box for gratuities to be shared amongst all staff
Worst Riu we ever stayed in
If I could give this Riu no stars and write a review I would!!! The only good thing this Riu has is Roselita in the kids club!! She was amazing. Everything else I don’t even know where to start. First when we arrived the whole resort had no AC. But then... they said they fixed it and our room still had no AC. I kept going to the front desk to complain as I have an 18 month old who just couldn’t sleep from the heat and I am 7 months pregnant as well. They kept saying they will send someone to our room which never happened. Finally on day 4 of our 7 day stay I sat in the room and waited for maintenance to come and 3 hours later still no one showed up. I called the front desk again and they said someone has been out to our room and when I said that I been in the room the whole time and no one came by the front desk guy acted surprised and said. Oh I will send someone right away. 1 hour later 2 maintenance guys came took some huge blower looking part out and came back with a new one. They said it should get cool within 2 hours. Well, 2 hours passed and still nothing.. you could feel the air blowing a little but not enough to cool the room. The rooms did have a ceiling fan but that was broken too! So it was barely blowing any air around. I kept complaining and no one did anything about it. They did later send us a bottle of Champaign as an apology. But again I am pregnant... 🤷🏻♀️. Also, the tile around all the pools is super slippery so watch ur kids. The RiuLand for kids was always dirty. The slides have weird brown stains on them which wipe off on to ur kids swimsuits and stain them. It also always was full of leaves and not cleaned very often. They also say this resort was recently updated and if u call everything that used to be brown painted white then yeah I guess it was. All they did was paint. We booked a king room and it was 2 fulls pushes together which would separate while u sleep. We got told our option was that or a queen.. so we stayed with that. Our kid kept falling through the hole while he napped. The only thing that made this vacation worth while was that our whole family was there and we had 15 of us, otherwise it would of been a complete waste. I do not recommend this Riu. There is plenty of other resorts that are so much better for the price..
Amazing hotel - wodnerful memories
Stayed at this hotel - my brother was getting married here and has been to this hotel 6 times previously with his wife. We were a party of 30 or so. Absolutely fantastic hotel, brilliant location and when they say all-inclusive, they really do mean all-inclusive! I would absolutely go back here tomorrow for another holiday if I could! A mixed bunch - we had babies, teenagers, young adults, couples and older guests - all went without nothing and there was no boredom or disappointment aired by anyone. Situated in a secure gated compound, you can feel at ease walking around the neighbourhood and trust that all of the taxis are licensed. My partner, my brothers and I took regular fishing trips, carrying out several by travelling over to Cozumel on the ferry and getting collected by a fly fishing guide to fish the salt flats. If fishing isn't your thing, just get the ferry across to Cozumel anyway for a spot of shopping and some lunch...you'll be sure to get a flock of flying fish following the boat! With several Riu hotels on the compound, as Riu guest you are allowed to use some of the other hotels' facilities wich is brilliant - sports bar and nightclub across the road (if that's your thing) and other restaurants and spa facilities in several other hotels. There is no shortage of reps avaiable to book excursions (although I'd give swimming with dolphins a miss as I personally don't like the idea of dolphins in an enclosure and prefer to experience them in the wild). If you want some adrenalin, book up to go to Cancun and do the Mangrove Speedboat Safari - includes a snorkel of a protected reef, you drive your own 2-man boat (keep up if you can) and it is epic!! We took my 6-year-old nephew and 10-year-old niece and they loved it.....we loved it!!
