Well where do we start. The flight and transfer from Cancun by Tui was seamless. Met by a representative who gave an in depth account of the dos and don’ts of the holiday. About an hour to transfer. Hotel staff were helpful on arrival and we had a large party to book in. Bags taken to rooms while we had a short drink. Rooms are large and very clean. Room bar and fridge stocked every two days. The location is in a closed hotel community. Beach access was easy. Beach cleaning throughout the day. Not a great deal of sea weed but the local staff are out every morning clearing the sea weed. Two large pools with plenty of cover beside the pool. Loungers for everyone. The pool bar was pleasantly staffed and they couldn’t do enough for all the visitors. Food is excellent with pool eatery. Two large buffet restaurants plus two separate Asian and Italian bars. Service and choice was excellent. Evening entertainment was fine and at times very funny. Plenty of other activities. Don’t have to pay for catamaran gym or sea conoes. Other beach activity is available at a cost. Ie banana boats, para gliding, snorkelling. The staff could not do enough. Very friendly and comfortable place. Short taxi ride to the town. Tipping is minimal. Eduardo and Rosa at the pool bar run a great team. This holiday gives great value for all the family. No stomach upsets either. Water and ice in hotel is fine. Take or buy mosquito bands, spray yourself every day with repellent. Only a few of us got slightly bitten. Take loads of sun screen and wear a hat. This place is hot and humid. There are places for quiet moments on the beach. The pool Bar has music and quizzes in the afternoon. The trip back is a long haul. Need a few days to cope with the inevitable jet lag. Great hotel and resort. Booked through Tui.
Had a brilliant holiday at Riu Playacar. Fabulous hotel. Wonderful staff - we did tip the individual staff who stood out, but there is no pressure or obligation. They do not treat you any different. Excellent food. Ability to use the other hotels was an added bonus, especially at night time. Can’t wait to return.
I am currently here.
Hi there! We are currently staying at Riu Playacar. Our stay has been a little rough. Bar service and restaurants have been very polite and inviting. Liquor is low quality and they do not have an option to get top shelf. That's not a deal breaker, as Jose Cuervo is the nicest tequila they serve. The front desk has been anything but helpful. We have had a broken air conditioning unit in our room and have been getting the run around about it for days now. Our room number is 7214 in case anyone gets that room, I'd ask for another (good luck). We upgraded to the beach view too. Daily temp in the room is 80 degrees F (26 degrees C). I will follow up with pictures, but our room has been miserable. Front staff is rude and we asked to switch rooms because we cannot sleep with it being so hot. We don't open our blinds or keep lights on to keep the heat out. We are seeing if we can leave early, because of how uncomfortable we are. Thought you should know. Extremely upset because you can tell some of the staff really cares and takes service to heart. We are here testing location for company event, my company will be hosting an award event including families next year. Sadly we are moving on from this resort as an option. Thanks
not true 5 star quality and 2nd week illness.
I'm not one for leaving reviews ,but I feel I have to here.We stayed here for two weeks from 23rd July to 6th August. Despite having been recently refurbished ,the rooms need an upgrade. A noisy fridge ,unadjustable air con ,chipped tiles and a tv which needed replacing. Spent our time on the beach and didn't really get involved with the daily entertainment. This isn't our thing. The beach was good apart from the sea weed ,which really didn't bother us and there was always plenty of sunbeads. Cleaners and gardeners are always busy. We witnessed a few drug deals from the cigar salesmen on the beach ,in plain site of security guards. Hotel security seemed to know these dealers and even bumped fists with them. the pools were warm and not filtered well. The pool bar ,while again, not our thing was full of people who didn't move all day. One day it was closed as someone had defecated in it. Very classy. Also people using the toilet by the bar ,bare footed and then getting straight back in the pool, disgusting! No foot wash area. The food was very good, but I did have some tepid dishes. Not a lot is cooked in front of you as in other A I we have visited. The drinks were good ,but not too strong. Premium brands are available if you ask. The staff are great . Ronaldo in the restaurant was my favourite. always smiling. What really tempered our visit ,was that both of my daughters and myself got sick during our second week. two of us are still struggling despite being home nearly a week. Suffering the indignity of taking samples to the local hospital. tHis was reported to the Rep,TUI and the hotel. Heard nothing as yet, but will be taking it further. TUI gave us a letter on arrival explains of a stomach condition ,affecting the Rivera Maya hotels. Think we got this, along with lots of others during our two week stay. Some were hospitalised. Read and article mentioning it in a national newspaper and how TUI are playing with peoples safety not telling them until they arrive at resort. Look it up I have been honest here
Excellent ! Perfect !
My 13 year old grand-daughter and myself have just got back home after 2 glorious weeks at this amazing hotel. We travelled Premium Club with TUI, well worth extra money. TUI rep. Ceaser on transfer bus was great, very welcoming and gave lots of information. Check in at reception (Angel) was quick, welcoming and efficient. Reception staff were great during our holiday. Nothing ever a bother. This hotel is immaculate ! Our room was in block 6, handy for all areas. Our room was spolessly clean and daily towel decor a delight. All staff are amazing, always pleasant and polite. We were treated well by everyone, always smiling! They all work so hard. The entertainment team are great, special mention to Valentino, Eduardo and Jonathan. The weekly foam parties are great ! We particularly enjoyed the White Party at the Riu Tequila. Can't believe that this and the Neon Party don't incur an extra charge ! They must cost a fair amount of money ! The food is great, we mainly ate in the buffet restaurant as the choice and quality of the food was amazing. The beach area is beautiful and we had only a couple of days when seaweed had to be removed. Trips....we did Captain Hook, brilliant ! Also Isla Mujeres and the paradise island of Holbox. Enjoyed them all. Overall we had the most wonderful holiday, were sad to leave and will return.
