Chilled, Welcomed & Looked After
From start to finish the service given from the staff at this hotel is faultless and comes without the uncomfortable loitering for a tip. The hotel is spotless with rooms attended to daily without fail. The restaurants are varied but you can get all the same food in the main buffet one and it is just as good, even better one night when the steak I got topped anything I ate in the steakhouse. I'm sure there are many to mention but I would like to point out Twain who worked at breakfast time and Althea who worked in the evenings as these two were superb and couldn't do enough for us. Twain even making chocolate milkshakes at breakfast time as our son didn't like strawberry or banana! The location is great with a choice of staying by the pool or walking straight on to the beach. The best compliment I could give is that should I return to Jamaica, I would choose this hotel again. It wouldn't be a review without some negatives and they are minor; There are three pools, all of similar sizes. One of which has the swim up bar and some adult activities late in the afternoon which get a little bit over the top with the drink fuelled participants and yet young children are still in attendance and it just got a bit uncomfortable. The middle one has a water polo net and the third one is quieter and ideal. However, the third one, apart from the underwater sunbeds, has no shallow area, and is 4ft deep which is not suitable for younger kids as they can never touch the bottom to splash about. They can, however, do this in the sea 100 yards away. As an adult, you can walk quite far out before it gets deep which is very enjoyable although there are the odd Stingray hanging around just to make you feel a little tense. The evening entertainment was a bit bland except for the African night and the kids club is a bit dated but Bubbles is an excellent chaperone. The poolside rules are laxed and it's very difficult for staff to hold guests accountable but when one is smoking in the pool you would expect them to be at least quietly chastised.
Amazing hotel, left on a bad note
The resort is unbelievably amazing we loved every single bit of it! The beach in particular is brilliant, just a word of caution I got stung in the sea and the market five minutes up on the beach is full of mosquitoes so I would avoid that. Three pools all with different vibes to suit your mood each day. The entertainment staff are so hard working and brilliant. The bar staff and food service staff could not do enough for you and made you feel really special. Unfortunately the mini bar service isn’t everyday as stated which we did not mind at all but called reception for some water one night when we went out to dinner and a few packs of cigarettes were stolen from our room. We told reception in the morning just to inform them but they put all the blame on us stating we must of misplaced them, not even a ‘sorry we will look into it’ just completely dismissed. We had to then buy the cigarettes in the gift shop which were overpriced. I was very unhappy with their reaction and every encounter with the reception staff left us feeling the same way. They don’t seem to be bothered about anything, so I wouldn’t expect too much from them. Shame to leave the trip on a bad note but brilliant trip in general!
50th birthday present!
Sheer Luxury! Staff so friendly, especially at the pool/ beach bar! We had the same waiter breakfast & lunch (Winston) he was amazing! Could not do enough for you, tipped him a dollar every meal & a tip when we left! Beach beautiful & food outstanding! Would love to return to Jamaica! People can’t do enough for you. All restaurants are superb! You will find everything & anything you need! Will not be disappointed at all!!!! Beautiful place!❤️❤️❤️
Still a great resort!!
My husband and I spent 10 days there to celebrate my 60th in May. Check in was a breeze and I had emailed ahead about a ground floor, ocean front room and we were not disappointed! The renovations are nice and modern, such a change from what is was 2 years ago when we were there last. The beach is far the best we’ve seen. And the vendors can be annoying, esp when you pay so much for a vacation. The entertainment team does their best to keep everyone busy. We only ate at the buffet and steak house, no complaints with either. We only had an issue with our room not being cleaned 1 time and some towel shortage, but it was resolved. Nothing to ruin our time there. You can nitpick anywhere you go or you can choose to enjoy the positive-esp in such a gorgeous place! Shout out to Natherine, our breakfast and lunch server, who we also had 2 years ago. She took excellent care of us and had a wonderful birthday breakfast surprise for me! Althea was our dinner server, who was also fabulous. The only suggestion I have is they need more servers on the beach during the day, though the walk to the bar did me good after eating so much! Thank you Riu for making my 60th such a special one. You have some of the best staff here, I would consider having them train staff in some other countries. I hope to see you again next year!!
We are into day 5 and this hotel is fab. The beach is beautiful and makes a great stroll first thing before breakfast. The jerk chicken is tasty and food in Buffett ok. If you have booked you won’t be disappointed
