The Good, The Bad & The Excellent
We did a group of 12 trip during Feb 2020 and we had a good time. Generally the crowds were older. Here is the Good, the Bad and the Excellent! The Good: - Food is just good, you can find something to eat. Taste is so so generally. - The night show is just ok The Bad: - no night entertainment after the show. Not even a DJ! The vibe is just dead at night - Mexican restaurant is terrible at best, don’t bother - Most staff can’t speak English and it’s very confusing especially when you are trying to get details on scheduled activities. They should have a printed schedule in English like many other hotels. The Excellent: - the property is beautiful and very well kept - Daytime entertainment team is excellent. Pool activities are excellent and the team is so lovely - Cleanliness is excellent - Service is excellent and staff is well trained, always smiling. Absolutely lovely people This is our 4th Riu experience at different properties, I’d still recommend the chain they do try very hard to make your vacation special
The staff at Riu Riviera Maya were incredible! Very friendly, very helpful, and they went the extra mile every time we needed anything. I would give the food a 4/5. I felt like there was limited options, but the quality of what was available was great. I really enjoyed the activities that happened during the day by the pool (volleyball, foam party, exercise classes, etc). Overall a great vacation and I would recommend the resort to anybody!
7th visit to the Riu Palace and 1st since the remodel. Love all the changes and as always GREAT service! Very Impressed! Looking forward to our next trip! Shout out to Carlos and Victor, they are always so happy to see us, and their dedication to ensuring our visit is welcoming and fun is always great!
Outstanding Hotel - Even better staff.
This was our first experience of an all inclusive resort and i don't think we could have chosen better.I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel. The hotel is large, however it never ever felt busy. It our 2 week stay we never once saw any rubbish anywhere, the whole site is kept spotless. There is always staff cleaning. Our room was as expected, we looked over the courtyard and whilst this is preferable we hardly went out on the balcony, so any room aspect would be okay. Within the room it has a bath next to the bed which, if nothing else is a major talking point for guests. We used ours for putting used towels et, however, you can get a screen from reception if you wish, however we used the shower which was brilliant. There was not much choice on the TV but we don't go on holiday to watch TV so this didn't affect us. WIFI is excellent throughout the hotel and grounds but get a bit patchy on the beach. The food both in quantity and quality was excellent throughout our stay. We ate in the steak house and the Japanese restaurant. We preferred the Japanese a lovely restaurant and a relaxed setting, the Steak house was more popular and therefore busier and felt more rushed. We ate most of the time in the buffet restaurant which had so much choice. How can you complain when more often than not lobster was being served! In reception there is a coffee shop and cocktail bar both were outstanding. If you have a preference for a branded drink, just ask and they will serve it to you. The coffee shop in terms of quality and presentation of pastries etc would put high street brands to shame. The pools were good, but not a quiet haven, however always plenty of free sunbeds. There was always some form of activity taking place, so we chose the beach which we loved. The beach had plenty of sunbeds and welcome shade under the palm trees. The beach did attract a lot of venders, however they were never pushy and many friendly. There has been mention of seaweed, we only had one day where there was any visible and this was quickly cleared by staff. The fitness programme was excellent and very varied. We didn't really watch any evening entertainment, however the White and Neon Parties held on Fridays at a neighbouring Riu were great fun. The location, for us, was excellent. A fantastic beach and located just a short walk or quick, inexpensive taxi ride into Playa Del Carmen. We really liked Fifth Avenue, ether day or night. At night it was really atmospheric and we always felt really safe. You can have the best facilities in the world, however it is the staff that can make or break a holiday. Whilst we have been fortunate to be treated exceptionally well in some great hotels, the staff at the RPRM were incredible. They all work so incredibly hard and they are always smiling. Every single encounter we had with a member of staff was a positive one. Whilst it seems unfair to single out individuals there were a handful of staff who made our holiday special. Thalia - First impressions matter. On arrival she was outstanding ensuring our room was to our satisfaction and going that extra mile to make sure we were happy. Pablo - Keeping our room spotless and amusing us with his towel creations. Leonado - His fitness programmes were excellent, he was so friendly, informative and a top notch instructor. Estoban & Gustavo - At dinner they looked after us so well, so friendly and super efficient, always making sure I was given my favourite wine. Enrique - Always smiling and keeping us refreshed on the beach, even bringing us drinks without having to ask. We have so many great memories of this hotel, its just a shame it takes 10+ hours to reach there, however I look forward to returning in the near future.
Great, if you don't mind getting naked in front of your family!
This was our second time going to this resort. Sadly, it will be our last. ONLY because of the new rooms. The hotel was recently renovated and it's got some issues. The pros: The food is much better, you always get a good drink, and the pools are amazing. It's also very clean. The CONS: The new room design. It's an open concept and the bathtub sits in the middle of the room! The toilet was relocated to a tiny space with a door that you can shut, but I don't know how anyone over 5'7 could fit in there without crunching up their knees. The shower is also enclosed with frosted glass, but in order to get in it, you have to undress in front of everyone first--since the room is open concept! I guess it's fine if you're with a husband/partner, but anyone who has a family knows this isn't going to work!! The walls are also very thin, and you can hear everyone talking in the hallway. That's fine if you are a heavy sleeper or don't like to sleep in. The bottom line, I think the renovation was done too quickly. They need to redesign the room and perhaps add some sound-proofing to the walls. I hope they fix these issues-- because it's a beautiful resort.
