Hello everyone, This was our first time staying at a Riu resort but have stayed at many other all-inclusive resorts to compare Riu to. When we checked in, they did not provide us with any information about where to gain information for the entertainment or if we could visit the other RIU resorts that are next door. Let me say that the pools and gardens are very well kept. The rooms are okay, no wow but very comfortable. It was a hit and miss leaving hand towels, and we had different room cleaning personnel daily. The entertainment was very disappointing; the only thing good was the pool party which was off-site. The food was the same for breakfast and lunch at the buffet. The restaurants had very little to choose from, but the most troubling part was that we saw roaches in all the restaurants except for the sushi one. This was reported. One of the waiters said it was just a bug that circles the lights, but it was a roach. The staff did not talk to you unless you started the conversation. If they passed by, they would not greet you. I believe this has to do with the supervisor or manager running the different areas. In the lobby cafe, the staff all smiled and greeted you and asked what they could get for you right away and always with a smile. Everywhere else, it was just different. We did, however, find that Kelvin, who we ordered our drinks from during the evening entertainment was very attentive and greeted us as soon as he saw us but not just us everyone he saw.
loved my stay and will be back asap. start to finish everyone is so helpful and hard working with a smile on their face. entertainment team are very friendly. one disappointing thing is the nights there is a pool party there is no show on for the people who don’t attend, especially those with children as these are adults only.

Pulling up at this most beautiful hotel , stunning, Firstly the staff are wonderful and nothing is to much trouble. After two weeks stay and have nothing to moan or complain about , everything was great , of course I would recommend a holiday here , ok ! But there was one really bad thing it was at the airport! We had a two and half hour wait in customs hall , the airport can’t handle the volume of people , so be prepared! But saying that it didn’t spoilt are time in the beautiful Dominican Republic 🇩🇴.
When we pulled up outside the hotel it was a definite wow from our bus,it does look beautiful and the cleaning staff do an amazing job they are always cleaning. The restaurants are hit or miss we thought the steakhouse was best and the Krystal the worst and the Chinese really slow service and people being seved before us who came in after us.The rooms are really nice and big,the beach is one of the best I have ever seen.So overall the hotel and all the service staff are definitely a 5 star,so why have I only given 4 stars ? Because the entertainment and the entertainment staff is the worst I have ever seen we saw the e them for a couple of hours in the morning and an hour at nigh a couple of times a week the shows were boring and when they have the pool parties down the road there is no entertainment at the hotel at all so if you have children or are not a fan of pool parties then you are left with nothing,so come on riu we are all guests and you really do need a huge improvement In your entertainment programme especially in the evening's,would I go again probably not although it was a beautiful hotel with an amazing beach the entertainment let's this hotel down
Riu nice, Heads up on Sunwing
We just came back from the Riu Palace. We normally stay at Riu's and have always been happy. They have an excellent cappuccino shop there. We found it very relaxing travelling in low season. There were empty lounge chairs on the beach & extra room at the restaurants. While it is not an adults only place, the only kids were the ones too young to be in school. The beach is long and sandy, no rocks. Some people were saying that the water is not as clear but I attribute that to the waves churning up the sand. The places where the water is very clear usually have lots of rocks that can't be churned up! However, we traveled with Sunwing Vacations. There was no mention that it was not a direct flight when we were vacation shopping. I called to book and the girl said that there was as a stop off in Puerto Plata to let people off and take on some passengers going home as well. We were ok with a stop over. However, we had to deplane in Puerto Plata and go through security again before getting back on! It was very similar to having a connecting flight and not a simple stop over when going through Punta Cana. It's good to know this before signing on. For those people going to Puerto Plata, they have direct flight going there but a stop over at Punta Cana when going home. It seems that this may be Sunwing's normal schedule in low season. Therefore be ready for a stop over/ connecting flight type flight when booking with Sunwing during low season to the Dominican.
