Will Return to Riu
Very impressed with this hotel, every staff member was helpful and polite. Our room was 1414, only had neighbours one side of us. Slept well each night but was woken at 6 every morning of our 12 day stay by noise / lots of talking coming from the housekeeping room/cupboard which would last 5-15 minutes so rated 4 instead of 5. The food was great. Service was also great in the main restaurant each time. Found the service a bit too quick and non personal in the Steak restaurant as it was busy and never have had jacket potato and chips together, would of preferred one or the other and served with a different vegetable (just a personal preference for us) Found the service and food excellent in both the Japanese and Fusion/Kristal. Favourite things about this hotel was the spacious room, view from our balcony on floor 14, the beach bar in an evening and lobby cappuccino bar. Was worried about photos of the beach with rocks on it but it was fine as there was a part of the beach which was all sand or could go up on the rocks and find a sandy bit up there. Always found a sunbed on the beach whichever time we got down there. We went up to the Riu Palace Las Americas for lunch a few times for change of scenery, was 12pesos on the local bus. Went to Isla Mujeres on the fast ferry, brought our tickets from the ferry pier, could sit inside or out. This was easy to do for a cheaper day out rather than organised excursions. Overall had a great time, one of the best Riu’s we’ve been to, and will love to return soon. Enjoy your stay if you are heading here!
Another great vacation
I really enjoyed staying at the RIU for Memorial Day weekend with 8 other family members. The staff is very experienced and always manages expectations and very friendly. I will always recommend this location.
3rd visit and still going strong.
Our party of 4 visited the Riu Palace for the third occasion for a 2 week vacation from the 12th of May. On arrival, we were politely welcomed by JR at the front desk and he very attentively checked us in to our adult villas. It didn’t take long for us to settle in as if we had returned to our second home. I was impressed by how new the rooms and buildings still looked so thumbs up to maintenance. Our rooms were in the 2300 block so facing the pool and ideal. (2321 and 2325 to be precise.) The rooms were faultless and my wife was even happier to find the hair dryers had been upgraded so dried at a much stronger currency. Waiter service throughout the 2 weeks was outstanding. In previous years, the excellent Felix has become some what of a friend and to start with it was disappointing to hear he now works at the main pool bar. However, Cocom, who was his replacement was equally as fantastic and I don’t think my glass became empty once. He deserves a medal for his friendliness and service. The ground staff continue to impress. Every day they are either landscaping, painting, cleaning or doing something which supports keeping the hotel looking grand. The food was largely great with a few opportunities to improve. The main buffet is without doubt the best as not even the fussiest eater would leave disappointed. Breakfast always delivers with endless choices and lunch was also superb with a large array of options. My favourite buffet dinner has to be Thursday nights where the hotel has lobster night. As much lobster as you can eat and it is cooked to perfection. Being someone who enjoys the opportunity to eat in a la carte restaurants; as it’s an experience and never a rushed occasion when it comes to socialising with your group; this is the area where the hotel needs to listen to feedback and improve. I say this because in everyone of the restaurants, the same menu options are still displayed from the first time I stayed at the palace in 2016. For the amount of money you pay to stay at this 5 star resort, I would expect the menus to be freshened up, whether it be seasonal changes, over a 2 week cycle or at least some of the mains to be redesigned, especially after 3 years. This is not a difficult concept to implement and I hope in the future the hotel does this to keep things fresh, as like myself, there are many people who love to return year after year. Kristal is by far the best of the sit down restaurants, and the presentation and taste of food is always very good. Equally the Kulinarium serves great tasty food. The steak house delivers when it comes to the tenderness of steak, but is let down by the lack of starter options, possibly a soup would do this for those who don’t like salad or cerviche. The desserts just come from the buffet so a bit of a let down there. The Italian was good, and I liked the option of a self serve starter, desserts were good here too. We tried the Japanese after a poor experience last year and still left disappointed and hungry. Options were poor or tasteless and I think this would be better rebranded as a Chinese or Thai restaurant. Finally, the Mexican. We have tried this on the last 2 holidays and both times the food was poor. After seeing the same menu displayed, we opted against going which is a shame and I often read on here how people rarely enjoy the food here. This should be the hotels signature restaurant and proudly show off the fantastic cuisine that Mexico has to offer, so again has work to do to improve. Bar service was superb. Diego is outstanding in the main bar and does a mean Tanqueray and tonic. The coffee bar has always been great but is now even better with so many more tasty dessert options. It seems like the hotel has tried to replicate a proper independent coffee shop and so thumbs up as this works brilliantly. Finally, the entertainment - It’s pleasing to see that they now perform shows over a 2 week cycle which is good when you are staying longer than a week. Most shows were very good, especially when involving music and the Saturday beach party is well set up and delivered. The only thing that lets it all down is the finish time of 11pm. If this is down to guests moaning about noise then maybe the hotel needs to build or utilise a room in the hotel for a night club as they have in the Riu Cancun. You could see how much fun people were having at the beach party until the disappointment came when it was already 11 and it was over. Lots of other Cancun hotels perform until midnight and if it is the element of travelling noise with an outdoor space used by the palace, my suggestion of a club room would be ideal. I’m sure I won’t be alone with this view. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of fantastic bars / clubs only a cheap bus ride away that we took advantage of but would be great to have the option in the place you pay your hard earned money. Overall, my suggestions for improvement are written as ideas to help make this great hotel even more fantastic. Although I wouldn’t be put off coming back here, if the restaurant food wasn’t updated, it certainly prompts me to look at alternatives for a vacation my group works hard to afford. Thankyou Riu Palace for another fantastic 2 weeks. I hope you take my feedback in the way it is meant and try to implement the ideas. We will no doubt return in the future.
Wonderful stay with excellent staff...
Wanted to mention a few staff members that were exceptional during our stay... Bernard, at the front desk. Yolanda serving us in the breakfast buffet - Gabriel at the lunch buffet and Max during our evening buffet... These few individuals are a great asset to the hotel and all deserve a raise...
We stayed in RPP for our honeymoon in April 2019. We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved this hotel. There is so much to do. There are 7 restaurants in the hotel; all of which have amazing quality food. We highly recommend the steak house! The buffet restaurant has an amazing choice of food for each meal - you will never ever go hungry or unsatisfied. There are also multiple bars including Trinidad pool bar and the 24hr sports bar. There are a number of different pools at the hotel - all kept very clean - and the hotel is close to the beach. Our room was impeccable and had bed, shower, and Jacuzzi bath. Each room also has a mini bar and optics which were restocked daily. Our maid Angelica ensured that the room was spotless every day. The hotel staff are all super friendly and happy to help. The hotel is kept to the highest level of cleanliness. We could not fault the hotel and hope to come back again!
