A beautiful hotel and as always Mexico has our Hearts

So this was our 7th time to Mexico over the past 20 years and our 2nd at this particular hotel. We have stayed at the Riu Cancun and visited the Caribe and America’s and love them all. It’s better at this one now than it was when it first opened…. The Coffee Shop and The RIU party’s are an incredible additions and at no extra cost I think it’s absolutely brilliant. All of The staff here work so unbelievably hard to keep the place clean and tidy and all of the staff from, Reception, waiters, Spa, Pool Bars & Waiters every single one is friendly. The food offers such a wide variety and even Gluten Free Options. There are plenty of options of restaurants to choose from and we have eaten out a few times here and it’s been a lovely change away from the hotel. All Inclusive anywhere you go will start to feel repetitive after 7/10/14 nights as lovely as it is. So Personally, we like to go out and explore and find different restaurants… Elefant’e is the most beautiful food….. pricey a Indian curry meal for 2 with a couple of drinks each is around £130 GBP bur worth every penny. It’s clean and lovely food at the hotel. I have no cons at all… except Mexico In general seems to have increased in prices all round… from the on site shops which are absolutely crazily over priced to the gift shops down in La Isla….. however it’s all worth it when you’re on holiday. I noticed that the TUI trips have gone up over what we have paid previously but there’s inflation everywhere so I guess it’s as expected. All in all RIU hotels are amazing value for money and Mexico as always we will be back. We would like to mention to the hotel manger that the evening bar man at the bar in the corner Theatre next to the Specialty restaurant ( we feel awful for not remembering his name we are forgetful ) he was the most welcoming and conversational hard working guy…. Always remembering our order every evening.. Baileys with a Little ice. Also the manager David at the Steakhouse and the Japanese Restaurant sometimes too, he was very friendly. Upon check out I left lots of things for the maids… some nice shoes, bag, hats, cups, even a travel kettle along with the usual toiletries. They work so hard and I never bring home what I won’t use again. They appreciate everything and of course tips where you can afford to. Going out and about is as safe as anywhere else… we used the bus and got the ferry to Isla Mujeries. Yes there are police & Miltary going along the beach… bits it’s Not intimidating and it’s only for the safety so please don’t be put off by it. Mexico, see you again soon as always you have our hearts

    Most Relaxed

Was the first trip out of country and at a Resort. I was very impressed with the overall service and the experience of being in a beautiful place like Cancun. I can’t wait to stay at Riu Palace again.

    A low value resort…

All the reviews that say the food is good here are lying! Still here and I’m soooooo hungry because the food here is not edible. The buffet has tons of options but everything is nasty. The meat does not taste like real meat. Every restaurant will make you sick, just don’t eat here. We will be eating off the resort for the rest of our stay. The hotel pools and beach area are beautiful! Views from the superior sea view room are superb. The rooms are big and clean but super outdated. Please renovate this hotel. We had to continuously put in maintenance requests for plumbing leaks. If you enjoy relaxing in your room and watching tv after a long day…do not book this hotel. TVs are really small only 36 inches and very old (no smart TVs), only local channels (mostly in spanish). We watched Netflix on our iPad’s mostly. A/C in rooms are terrible. No A/C in elevators or hallways. Only the lobby. So a packed elevator + the walk back to the room can be brutal depending on how hot it is outside. If your flight arrives early, you still cannot check in until 3pm. We arrived around 12:30 and our room wasn’t ready until 4. RIU Land for kids was just OK. The kids club is not open all day only for a few hours during the day. The schedules for RIU Land and other kid activities are confusing and not completely accurate on the app so always check with the front desk. Overall RIU Peninsula was a low value resort and I will not be returning.

Budget 5 star resort with limited food and activities

My experience with the Riu palace peninsula went from good to below average. The resort seems very budget friendly and doesn’t feel like a five star resort. There are not many food options throughout the day and food is only available during certain hours. Room service is only cold foods such as sandwiches and salad which can take a while to get to you. The room itself wasn’t the best overall. Throughout the day and night the ac was not blowing well and didn’t get cold at all during the short stay. Both jacuzzis in the room were dirty and the water did not come out as fast. Me and my wife called maintenance several times regarding this and it took a while to even get someone to come to the room and even then they proclaimed everything is fine and the room is cold. The adults only villas are outside and there’s no elevator to commute to and from the rooms. This resort is mainly for someone that just wants to sit around and drink alcohol all day. Another issue at the resort is the soliciting from taxis to many other services. This was my first time staying at Riu resort and I definitely will not be coming back.

    Amazing

Great service and amazing food. We had a lot of fun at the parties. It was my birthday and staff made sure I had amazing day. They did say that we were gonna get Champagne in the room, but we never received it.
