Great holiday from start to finish
I have recently returned from 2 weeks staying at RIU Palace and we are so pleased we chose this hotel. I travelled with my Wife and two daughters (7 & 4). TUI customers are greeted at the airport and given your own private taxi (laid on by TUI) apparantly to stop coaches taking business away from local taxi firms. All the staff at RIU Palace are amazing, the grounds are well kept and the food is so good with plenty of choice. Our room was very clean and the mini bar was always kept topped up. It was great to have 24hr room service option although we never used it. There are so many nice little touches we liked about this hotel, like having your cocktail or wine etc served in the right glass. I'm amazed that some reviewers can find fault with the food. Whether you are a meat eater, veggie, vegan or gluten free they have catered for everyone and it was always fresh and of a high standard. The salads are amazing and varied. The seafood option is superb including sushi. Meat eaters have an amazing selection to choose from too including fillet steak and ribs. If chips and burgers are your thing you will find them at the kids food section. We visited 4 out of the 5 restaurants. The only reason we didn't visit Krystal restaurant is because children under 12 are not allowed, which is fair enough. Men need to wear long trousers if visiting the japanese restaurant too. Therefore if you have children under 12 and have forgot your trousers your choice of restaurants goes down from 5 to 3! We swam with Dophins via Vallarta Adventures which was amazing. The photos/video you have the option to purchase after was extortionate though. We went to the local market a couple of times which was about a 10min cab ride away. UK visitors I would recommend taking Pesos not US Dollar. Dollar is accepted but you get your change back in pesos and it will at their (taxi/market) higher exchange rate. Reception were always on hand to change our larger pesos notes down to smaller ones for tipping. Poolside entertainment was good. We never really participated but it was fun to watch and you could go to the quieter end of the pool if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet. The foam party was brilliant! Great atmosphere and the majority of people seemed to get involved! We never usually bother with evening entertainment when we are on holiday as we prefer to sit outside or by the pool but our daughters wanted to see the shows and they were mostly brilliant! They may not be for everyone and you may night like the theme each night but you cannot help but be amazed at the production and effort that goes into each show. The entertainment team work tirelessly (they are mostly the same team in the daytime and evening) and always have smiles on their faces. You're never made to feel like you have to be involved. If the shows or live music isn't for you there was the option of the piano bar which had a more chilled, quieter atmoshphere. Take mosquito bands/spray - you will get bitten! Table service in the bars and by the poolside was a great option to have. It could be slow at times but we were never far from a bar if we felt like getting our own instead. The only downside to this hotel would be the pool. It does feel like it is in need of resurfacing and having a better filter system put in. The pool is made up of 2cm square tiles and quite a few are coming away. You will find several loose ones during your stay. They do appear to be 'patching' the gaps with new tiles but the colours dont match and the tiles appear to be falling off daily. There were a lot of dead insects floating around that seemed to get worse after a storm. However, I did see a member of the pool team going around with a net throughout the day. It's lovely to have the option of drinking in and around the pool but by the afternoon the pool (inside and out) is littered with empty plastic cups. The poolside team do try to keep on top of it. This isn't a criticism of the hotel, more towards some of the inconsiderate guests. However, we didn't let it distract from having fun in and around the pool. Thank you to everyone at RIU Palace for an amazing holiday. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend
Can not fault the hotel. Plenty of food choice. Bedrooms spacious and clean. Hotel clean overall. My only complaint is pool can be rowdy as people tend to sit at bar all day. Only one pool choice. Free for all. There was an incident where a guest was sick in the pool bar area. They only cordoned off the one area leaving the rest of pool open. Plus the pool Boy was cleaning rest of pool with sick covered net. Not good at all by British standards. Wouldn’t visit again.
I struggle with rating this hotel. It is listed as a 5-star hotel however I do not believe it lives up to the rating. In June, I stayed at the RIU Palace Costa Mujeras outside of Cancun and this was my first time staying in an RIU property. Therefore, I compared my stay here with that hotel which was excellent. This location needs to work on customer service and upkeep of the property. The room was nice however it is time for updated maintenance on the suites. The bathroom had discoloration/pink mold in the tub area. At one point there was brown water coming through a faucet after the power went out at the hotel. Overall, the food was good but could use some improvement. Definitely not as good as the Costa Mujeras location which had nearly the identical food options and layout. At the outside eating tables, birds became a nuisance picking food off of plates. The pool could use some additional maintenance but was nice. The beach was ok. No seaweed and relatively clean. The water is calm but not clear. Also, the hotel allowed too many vendors on the hotel property to sell items. This became annoying at times. Additionally, customer service was ok but could be improved. I found one very nice waiter during breakfast who was attentive and helpful. However, others were ok but I’ve experienced better service at other hotels. Overall, I had a decent trip however I would not stay at this location again. Please note the hotel is located about 25 mins from Puerta Vallerta. I took the tropical/city tour which was nice to see the city and surrounding towns.
Good hotel however needs remodeling. All of the staff work very hard. The amenities are great you never had to worry about finding a lounge chair at the pool or waiting to be seated at the restaurant. We spent most of our pool days at the pools ,by the beach, sport bar, and the restaurants. I had a chance to meet with one of their chief supervisor Eucy. Wow what a great guy very professional and he was everywhere in the hotel it didn’t matter whether it’s day or night he was always there to make sure everything was running smoothly. Thank you Eucy for everything. I found all of the staff to be very kind and patient with us and the food was good. I really am looking forward to going back again hopefully after they remodel. Room tip: The views from the rooms are great

First time to this location. Excellent first impression and overall a very good hotel with excellent service. Overall an excellent hotel and we would definitely return. Food was superb and we easily booked into the a la carte restuarants. Only negative was the cleanliness of the room. Although not dirty when you pay for 5 star hotel we expected a higher general clean, although the communal areas were very clean. A small tip to the staff goss a long way and ensurd we always received excellent service.
