Good experience for first all-inclusive
First time with all-inclusive experience and was very pleased. Very clean, food good in all outlets. Tomas at the Peninsula buffet made every meal a delight with his wonderful attitude and attention. Room was clean. Pool beautiful and large enough for lounging, hanging at the bar and taking part in water aerobics. Never saw staff member without a smile and greeting . Would definitely consider returning if coming back to the area
The buffets were fantastic! So much variety! I loved the seafood. The staff in the hotel was very friendly..The Sports Bar staff were friendly and made us a lot of different drinks that we don’t get at home. It was a great place to meet up with our friends. I would definitely stay here again.
Could so easily have been 5 stars
We've been home for 10 days now so, after reading other reviews, it's time to say how we found the Riu Palace. There is so much to love about this hotel. The staff, from cleaners to waiters, barmen to entertainers, all work so hard and are so friendly - they really are a huge asset. The entertainment in the evenings was of a high standard and thoroughly enjoyed. Everywhere was spotless, actually it reminded us of Disney watching the cleaners sweeping the water off the paths after a shower. The gardens and fountains are immaculate. The food was superb - in fact we didn't even try any of the restaurants until our second week as we were eating so well in the buffet. Highly recommend the behind the scenes kitchen tour with a great surprise. The drinks were educational - I've certainly discoved a lot more cocktails and shots - and special mention must be made of the barmen at Colibri! The staff at the pool bar work tirelessly to ensure you had what you wanted. We went to the Jalisco and Vallarta to look around but preferred our oasis at Palace Pacifico. When the weather was bad Plan B swept into action - Colibri, usually an evening only bar, was opened in the morning, games and activities were set out alongside the theatre and trolleys offering both drinks and liqueur coffees appeared. Well done management! Finally, the secret ingredient that we and many others found here? The other guests. We met the loveliest people, of all ages, mainy from UK, Canada and America and all friendly and happy to chat. We've read and heard that it's due for refurbishment and sincerely hope that they retain much of the atmsphere of the hotel. Yes, there are improvements needed e.g walk-in showers instead of high sided whirlpool baths but so many changes could be made right now to merit a 5 star rating from us. So management, if you're reading this, please consider the following suggestions. Because of the height of the bath sides I was worried about slipping getting in and out of the shower, so went to Reception to ask for a rubber non-slip mat for the bottom of the bath and explained why I wanted it - we got another towelling bathmat! We assume you don't have such things but would suggest they are essential, particularly for children. We were relieved to find out pre departure that smoking is only allowed in designated areas. What we didn't expect was to find an ashtray on our balcony! When we spoke to our Tui rep she said that an ashtray would be provided if we wanted to smoke on the balcony but smoking wasn't allowed in the rooms. In that case why do you not have a designated floor for those wanting to smoke? Not difficult to organise but, given that the balconies have closed in sides for three quarters of the way up, this would have allowed us to use our balcony more often than we could - because we had guests on either side whose smoke rose, came through the space at the top and got trapped, forcing us to go into the room. We've seen lots of comments about smoking around the pool and on the beach - all very unpleasant for non-smokers but at least there we were in the open air. As for the designated areas, particularly right outside the entrance to Reception from the gardens - why does that need to be under cover, allowing smoke to linger? There are lots of beds around the pool and on the beach but we've read comments about needing to be out early for certain areas. Despite saying in the handbook in the rooms not to reserve beds everyone does. As we said this wasn't a problem for us with so many available yet...on both wet mornings we were there we looked out early from our room (overlooking the pool) and could clearly see several of the beds with their backs folded over on top of towels. With stress being put on the importance of handing towel cards back on signing out from the hotel, surely all you need to do is ensure any towels left before or after the opening hours are removed. The problems that would cause with getting towel cards back would soon be common knowledge and the problem would lessen. It's a shame that, with such a large pool area, criticisms are made about not being able to swim because of people drinking and plastic cups floating in the pool (unfortunately we saw this several times). The swim-up bar area is both very large and well equipped. We also saw lifeguards around the pool area. We always believed that an important part of their role is to keep swimmers safe by preventing others creating risks. Why then are they not stopping people leaving the bar area with drinks? Again easily done and would definitely make for a safer and cleaner pool. With 450 or so rooms meaning around 1000 guests, two lots of bathrooms with 5 cubicles in each is ludicrous, especially when they are so far from the pool area. Again we were told by our rep that management is aware of the criticisms and it is at the top of the list when refurb happens but why wait, after all that was the subject that everyone we spoke to mentioned! With such a large area surrounding the pool, and there's already a towel hut and massage area, surely a toilet block could be built back there? So, having read all this, should you consider staying at the Palace? Without hesitation YES.
Destination Wedding Getaway!
Had an amazing time! They certainly do everything in their power to insure you have a wonderful stay! From the front desk staff to the waitstaff! From Breakfast to after dinner! Every moment was just wonderful!! Will be looking forward to our next vacation withthe Riu Resorts!!
I have been staying at Riu Palace for over 5 years, twice a year and wanted a change of scenery. This property doesn't compare w/ other Riu. Dinner time is extremely restricted, and no reservations after 7pm. Buffet is okay for a buffet, but you can be tried of the selection quickly. Staff isnt as friendly, and everyone here is over 70 plus years old, or under 25 years old. The resort is far from the boardwalk in Puerta Vallarta, and almost all businesses only take cash! Very disappointed, cant wait to leave!!
