Hotel Overview

Riu Palace Mexico abounds with European flourishes such as hand painted murals, floral ceilings rimmed in gold, and a tiny Spanish chapel. Splashing fountains, statues, gazebos, and wrought iron benches rest in a romantic courtyard beneath the shade of towering palms, while sprays of bougainvillea adorn slanted sun-shelters by two magnificent pools.

La Bodega, Don Julian, El Patio, and La Traviata restaurants offer specialty à la carte dishes and spectacular buffets. Recently revamped menus now offer a wide range of cuisine and finer ingredients at the à la carte restaurants, as well as the incorporation of a vegetarian menu in all restaurants. A lavish nightclub in whimsical design hosts nightly entertainment, and a pristine white beach along the mesmerizing turquoise sea promises to delight the senses and soothe the soul.

Deluxe and spacious guest rooms (mostly split-level) were renovated in 2012. All are beautifully decorated in rich wood and granite rose tile, offering a sitting area with mini-fridge and bar.

Endless amenities include waiter service at the renovated pool area, snorkeling, windsurfing, body boarding, kayaking, and scuba lessons in the pool! Riu Palace Mexico provides the best entertainment for adults and children. RiuLand Kids' Club offers activities for the little ones.

    Decent resort

The resort itself was gorgeous. I arrived to my room with the original request of a king but I’d since requested separate beds. I returned to the front desk and they promptly got me into a room with two beds. I was also there during Hurricane Beryl and the staff was absolutely amazing with keeping us safe and calm. There were a few things that I wish were better - the food wasn’t the best, I wish there was more entertainment options, that there were elevators throughout the property and that the hallways weren’t so very slippery, even before the hurricane. Another issue I had was that there were ants on the nightstand and head of the bed. But, the staff was very fast to come spray the room down and I didn’t see another one. They also accommodated my best friends wedding when the original plans were cancelled because of the hurricane. Kudos to the staff for their friendly staff and fast action on everything.

    Ok 2 weeks

This is an honest positive review, of the Riu palace Mexico. Rooms are your usual palace fare. Although the choice of food you could not fault at all. The staff went above and beyond in all areas, they are an actual credit to the hotel. The only fault I could give this hotel is the ladies pool, and entertainment toilets are absolutely disgusting. Regardless when you go,Yes this could be the people that are using them. But the smell that greets you is disgusting 🤢. And clearly the cleaners who clean them, need a pay rise. Maybe a bit more bleach to take the odour away.Certainly not palace standards by a long way 🤷🏻‍♀️.

    Would not return.

Just returned from a 12 day trip to the Rui Palace Mexico and whilst I still had a great holiday, I would not return to this resort as there are some major downfalls. As travelers from the UK, we arrived late in the day. As we booked with TUI, a king size bed was selected in our junior suite room. On arrival, we were given a room with 2 separate 3/4 beds as they had given out all king size rooms already. The solution was sleep in that room for our first night, hand the keys back the next morning and return at 3pm the following day for a new room. At least it was fixed. 5 days in, I woke at 5am to use the toilet. Upon putting the light on, our room was infested with flies everywhere. I went straight to reception and was told house keeping would be there ‘immediately’. At 7.30am, no one had arrived. I returned to reception and was told house keeping didn’t actually start their shift until 8am so they would be there soon after. I was told we must’ve left a door open and that “it’s Mexico” so the same thing would happen if they were to provide a new room. I didn’t find the receptionist at this point helpful or understanding at all. Two days later we returned to the room at 5pm to discover the same thing with flies had happened again. Thankfully, the receptionist we had this time was much more understanding and then provided an upgrade for the inconvenience of moving to our 3rd room on a 12 day holiday. The grounds of this resort are gorgeous and very well maintained. The pool areas are good however for a 5* resort, there are multiple tiles broken/missing and umbrellas at the pool are terrible. They do not provide any shade at all. Due to this, we moved our pool location to be under the sliding sun screens. We then realized that they were broken and didn’t pull across. Again, very disappointing. The buffet restaurant was good with lots of choice that changed daily. The quality of food from the A La Cartes was disappointing. The lack of AC in these restaurants was also frustrating at times. I was also horrified when I was told to leave the lunch buffet as my outfit was inappropriate. I had a bikini with a beach dress over the stop? In 31 degree heat and in an outside restaurant with the fans off, this is a little dramatic. On another day, I had take taken my T-shirt off (had a bikini top and high waisted shorts on) whilst sitting down to eat and was told I must have my shoulders covered? I must give credit to the resort for their response and handling of Hurricane Beryl. This was right at the end of our stay and they were great. When paying for a 5 star holiday, I am hopeful the small details (which can make a huge difference) are taken care of. Unfortunately the RIU Palace Mexico missed the marks on a lot of these.

    Overall Good Resort!

Overall I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a family friendly resort with good food! We had a very good time there with our two teenage boys! We wish they had a way to reserve the type of room you want when you make the reservation, they do it based on room availability when you arrive and we had an issue with that when we checked in. You should be able to reserve a double bed room when the reservation is made like you can at most hotels. Also we noticed the drink service on the beach wasn't nearly as good as at other resorts or when we visited previously several years ago. Not a huge deal, we just walked up and got our drinks, but something we have become accustomed to over the years. The food overall was very good! The buffet has a lot of options, and the specialty restaurants were pretty good for the most part, only one we didn't care for. The beach is big and beautiful. The food was very good overall. And the staff was very friendly for the most part.

    Love this place

It is our 3rd time staying at Rui hotels, twice at this resort. We love this place, food is great and the staff are amazing people! The hotel itself is so clean and welcoming, the service is superb. Would recommend this place without skipping a beat. Beach is beautiful and well maintained. The entertainment throughout the day is so fun and engaging for everyone and the night shows are fantastic. For sure will be back soon!
