The staff made this holiday! 😊

We booked this hotel following a recommendation from a friend. Honestly we cannot fault this place. Please ignore all the negative reviews online. Firstly the staff. The hotel, food, scenery is stunning but the staff made this holiday for us. They are some friendly, accommodating, happy and grateful. Just a few names to mention...Herman at the lunch area had our drinks waiting every day at the table and even went out of his way to find champagne one evening when they ran out (even though I insisted I was ok). Virgi at the pool bar, always made us laugh, we genuinely missed him on his couple of days off. Robert and Alexis in the entertainment team have so much energy, they always sat down to chat with us and make sure we were ok. The staff work such long hours but all of them stress how much they love there job. Thank you to all the staff for making our trip so special. The food is beautiful. The buffet/main restaurant was so nice we didn’t even try the speciality restaurants because we enjoyed it so much. The fresh seafood i couldn’t get enough off. Especially the paella. We emailed prior to staying and requested a room that a friend recommended. We imagine the hotel get thousands of these request so wouldn’t have been disappointed if this didn’t happen, however we were shown to our requested room on arrival. The rooms do smell slightly damp (which a few people mentioned) but once the air con was on the damp smell was gone. We are in a country with 80% humidity. We love our RIU hotels and this certainly did not disappoint. We will most certainly be returning. Thank you again for a perfect holiday.

    Would go back

Cleanliness- very clean, super clean rooms, all public bathrooms were super nice and clean and fully stocked. Service - tons of staff, you never feel like you're searching for anyone. Very helpful and friendly. Food- very good. Four a la cartes with no reservations makes it easy to just show up for supper. The buffet is very large with something for everyone. Entertainment- nothing to write home about. They dont have nightly shows, their michael Jackson one was good. Day staff try to get people engaged near the pool. The riu multiplex has a pool party area for adults 4 days a week. They're awesome if you're looking for that Vegas pool party type party. Other guests - lots of reviews say this is a quiet resort. I dont think it is, we had lots of days turning it up at the pool bar and going to the discotheque. BUT there are lots of areas to get away for a quiet day/evening. I think it's best of both worlds. Everyone here was from Europe or Quebec so we were one of the few english only speaking people on the resort. If you're English and looking to make friends I'd try somewhere else. Side note- we went diving with scuba caribe and if you're any kind of a diver it's a joke. They're not a real dive company just an excursion masquerading as one. They advertise diving just off the beach but almost never go because of the wind and waves. They take you to the other side of the island and you get to look at some coral but mostly sandy bottom in a very hurried two tank dive. We paid 400USD for it, big waste.

    Nice hotel, nice beach.

The hotel was nice and clean. The services were very good. The food was good. One thing was interesting: the cooks at their restaurants always overcooked the steaks. I preferred my steaks medium rare, but they came out medium or done twice. So I learned my lesson, the third time when I ordered the steak, I asked for rare then it came out medium rare. It was perfect. The beach was nice with white sand and clean, except some days there were some seaweeds. I definitely will go back to this resort.

    Disappointed

I am a little late on this review but I wanted to give a real review to those thinking of staying here. I have stayed at the RIU Palace in Aruba and thought we would be fine staying here. I was wrong. Upon arrival at the resort we were told that we were "upgraded" to the other neighbor RIU resort. We explained to them that we chose this resort for the adults only option and for the many great reviews we have read. They continued to try and sell us on the other resort. We declined. After some hesitation they gave us room keys to our first room. We had booked an ocean front and we were given a small room with a balcony with a large white wall directly in front of it where we could only see the sky. Seriously. The room had a very strong smell of bug spray also. We were both very upset. My fiancé had gone back to the front desk where they told him they were overbooked and could not give us a new room for a few days. He told them this was unacceptable and they said they could not get us another room until the next day. We were ready to leave on day 1 of 10. The next day we were given the room we booked which was much better. The room was nice and had a large shower and nice balcony. The best part of the vacation was the beach. We normally go back and forth from the pool to beach. Unfortunately we were not fans of the pools. There was a swim up bar with a pool that we did not go to because there were way too many people in there and they seemed to never get out to use the restrooms. Sorry but thats gross. We were mainly in the pool next to it but we were yelled at for having drinks on the side of the pool. Apparently you can't have drinks in the other pools? Unfortunately we will not be returning to this resort and will definitely not be recommending it to anyone. The beach area and the drinks were the best part of this trip which is why I give it three stars.

The Place to Go in Punta Cana!

We have stayed at many resorts in Punta Cana over the years but we continue to return to the Riu Palace Macao. The staff is awesome - friendly, patient and accomodating. The food is fantastic and the choices are overwhelming!!! Just returned from a visit in December and already planning our next visit in July. We just can't stay away@@@
