Really Enjoyed Ourselves
Had a 2 weeks holiday at this hotel in both March 2018 & March 2019. Having stayed at Riu adults only hotels before we found the Palace Macao up to their usual high standard. All of the Hotel Staff doing their very best to be helpful & to make our holiday memorable The housekeeping in our bedroom was of a high standard with extra touches of daily towel/flower sculptures left on our beds & bathroom. Our room on both occasions was on a high floor & really quiet with nice sea/pool view from our balcony. Great food on offer in the restaurants with plenty of choice - something to suit most tastes - especially loved their many fresh fruit options at breakfast. Plus if you really needed extras their was always (24hrs) sandwiches, salads & fresh fruit available in a self service fridge in their coffee shop. All inclusive drinks were of good quality both in restaurant & bars - really enjoyed one of their G&T's at lunchtime & as early evening aperitif. Position of hotel running straight down to the long supersoft sandy beach & sea is stunning - giving lovely walks along the shoreline. All in all - despite periods of torrential monsoon style rain on some days (lasting up to 8hrs) - we had a good holiday on both occasions.
Significantly large complex supporting a v traditional holiday
If you want to drink all day, do activities (some of which border on a “Carry on” film) then this is the place for you. Some wonderful food, clean, comfortable with an edge of sophistication in certain areas. But sophisticated it is not. In my personal view this has a strong resemblance to a long haul Butlins. Albeit at a 5 star level. I was v ill day 3. My other half also v ill. Half the holiday ruined and little help for what appeared to be quite an impact for a number of people. Nonetheless this can be a fun trip. Quite a substantial number of over 50’s behaving like 20 years plus had been shaved off. Now that’s entertainment!! So in summary staff can be wonderful and attentive, food is good and plentiful, the drink flows, the shops are full of tat and / or expensive but the location is clean and beautiful. Not for me but most people seemed to love it !!
Currently at Resort not A happy time
First Day here 2 couples. Our first room air conditioning did not work at all because the door would not make connection to allow it to operate. Went to show front desk issue only to find out they tried to fix and my shirt was covered in paint from covering the issue where the water had caused issue from air conditioner and they tried to just cover it up. Go to new room refrigerator has water running out on floor. Not big issue change the fridge out and go on. Nope After it was reported the maid cleaned it up. Good for her. Is done while we were at dinner. Return to room walk in can't see that the refrigerator wasn't fixed slide in water fall and hip neck and shoulder hurt. It should be ok. Call front desk tell them it's not acceptable the maid comes clean up water put towel down that's it. Hope it gets better. We are a big Riu supporter but this is bad. June first going to be here a week.
AMAZING FROM START TO FINISH
My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here and had an amazing vacation. Our suite room was perfect and decorated for our 25th anniversary when we arrived. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food in the buffet was better than any other buffet we've eaten at when on vacation. The beach was gorgeous and so close to the hotel. I've read some of the other reviews and wonder if it's the same resort. We hope to be back one day!
sorry but not 5*
This is not a 5* star Riu hotel, we have stayed at Riu hotels many times in different countries, firstly the Macao is situated in the middle of 5 Riu hotels so you can walk around the others and compare certain things and the Macao is very tired looking in the reception and theatre. The food was cooked well but was very repetitious. the buffet restaurant is ok but the plates and cups at times were chipped so not 5* standard. The A la carte restaurants are a waste of time better food in buffet restaurant The bedroom was good and the beds were huge and comfortable.(beware the tiled floor can become slippery as I found out) they don't tell you this at the welcome meeting. As mentioned by many reviewers the pool bar must be a toilet as many many users of it do not move from 10am to 6pm. the other two pools are clean and quiet (did see the pools being tested though) If you are going to award 5* to anything here it has to be the staff apart from one or two bar staff who favoured regular tippers, from cleaners, grounds people, pool towel staff, restaurant waiters and animation staff were brilliant, they were happy and friendly Have to mention Maikel of the animation team what a top man interesting to listen to, interested in what you say and also very funny. also Robert and ruddy all enthusiastic. A word of advice to the hotel when there is a problem the managers need to get involved earlier and generally be noticeable. So stop advertising this as a 5* hotel it's a 4* with 5* staff
