Nov 30, 2024Nice relaxing vacation
The hotel and the property are very nice, on a smaller side, but clean, well designed and everything is very conveniently located. Rooms are modern and recently renovated, through the hotel building has a lot of wear and tear signs.swimming pools are on a smaller side and just your regular rectangular shape, nothing to write home about . The beach is wonderful with soft sand,very wide and lots of mature and younger palm trees, lots of chairs . food was above average for an all inclusive with an excellent buffet choices and 4 a la carte restaurants. We didn't like the fact that we couldn't go and dine at the other Riu Palace resorts in the complex, you are only allowed at lunch , but not dinner, limiting our dinning options. All in all it was a relaxing vacation for us, a little bit on the boring side at this hotel, where most of the entertanement was at night time but not too much during the day.

From start to finish this was an excellent holiday. Was a bit worried after reading some reviews. I think people either expect too much or are reviewing the wrong hotel! The disappointing thing was the weather wasn't as expected and you can't do anything about that. We had more rain than would have liked but plenty of bars to sit in or games to hire. The staff, from bar, restaurant, to cleaners, always greeting you with a smile. Our room cleaner was excellent. Our favourite restaurant waiter was Roosevelt in the buffet restaurant. We tried the steak, Italian and Krystal restaurants. All excellent fine dining food with amazing service. The pools were lovely, wasn't keen on the swim up bar, too noisy for us. Had a fantastic room with huge balcony. Yes we took damp rid bags and they worked. I am a very fussy eater and I managed to find something at breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks in between. We even tried room service which although limited was still excellent and nice to eat on our balcony. The outside entertainment shows was some of the best we have ever seen and the resident entertainment team were always giving 100%. The only moan we had was the ice machine on the landing wasn't working and we reported it several times. Luckily we took a huge flask and filled it at the bar before going back to our room. Needed this for the lovely gin in the optics. The mini bar was filled every time we asked for water, beer or mixers. Would we go back - absolutely; can't wait. Might make it December to try for better weather.

Nov 20, 2024Don’t waste your time or money
I would definitely skip this property and choose another one for your visit to this resort. I booked a “Elite” package for this stay for the 5 days. The pick up transportation is horrible, it would be worth the $40 taxi rides. The rep at the airport had us waiting for other passengers who flight hasn’t even landed yet. After being very persistent he finally agreed to drop off us off, the shuttle does make several stops along the way. Upon checkin I was escorted to the Elite lounge and that went pretty smooth. Upon my arrival to my room, I was suppose to get champagne on ice delivered which never happened after calling 3 times throughout my stay, personally speaking with Laysha at the customer service desk who always was rude with attitude who promised it was coming just wait, it never came the entire five days. Moving on when I checked into my room, it wasn’t cleaned, the floor felt gritty, the bathroom wasn’t clean, and when I pulled back the sheets there were stains. I immediately went to the front desk to advise I asked for another room, they said they could not change me for 3 days and housekeepers would be up. After wondering around for 5 hours around 8pm they finally came to change sheets. After a super long flight starting my day at catching a 5am a nap would of been nice. I was underwhelmed by the buffet, so I ate at the elite Resturant and other restaurants daily. The beach is beautiful from a distance, but once you get on the beach you are constantly harassed by vendors with animals wanting you to take a picture, women hounding you to give you massage even when you have earbuds in your ear they touch you to get your attention, vendors selling trinkets the entire time, I couldn’t even enjoy sitting in silence reading a book. There is a lot of seaweed in the beach and it wasn’t very clean at all, the beach chairs were also very dingy m. I was also surprised that this resort like the other ones didn’t have security present. This is a smoking hotel and it seemed like everywhere you went especially by the pool a lot of smokers. It also seemed like anytime I went to the front desk or anyone standing in front of me to ask a question, the front desk was very short and kirt as if we were bothering them. Otherwise I had a great time in DR away from the resort. I will NOT be staying at this hotel ever again when visiting the DR. The extra money for elite was a total waste money, it’s not worth it at all. Also not there are not elevators to get to your rooms.

Enjoyable Return
This was our second visit in 4 months. We enjoyed our first visit with family, so we decided to return as a couple as we found a good deal. We had a room on the top floor this time which was much better than the previous room we had on the second floor. We requested a room on a higher floor as we had a issue on our previous visit with moisture and a bit of mold. This time the room had no issues what so ever. This hotel has grown in popularity due to the renovations and recent good reviews, due to this the hotel was at full capacity and seems to be fully booked most of the time. Some things had changed in the short time since our last visit, one thing that hadn't was the excellent staff and their service. To be honest it was the main reason for our returned, they actual make the place what it is. The restaurant are still the same but all the menus had changed, it was my opinion that the food wasn't as good as our previous visit and standards had slipped a little. But yet again the service in every restaurant was excellent and friendly. The drinks are good quality for a AI, but on this visit there was less availability of certain brands as before. But it did improve over the time we were there, it was obviously a supply issue and not a deliberate reductions on their offerings. Entertainment team work extreme hard, but the entertainment at the evenings are targeted to a older audience. We sit in that age group where we are neither old or young, but we are able to see it for what it is and enjoy whatever the hotel has on offer. Riu as a brand is affordable, value for money and you have a wide range of guests. Some guests that want to have a drink and party some that want a quite holiday. I think this Macao offers exactly this and has something for everyone. I see a few bad reviews of Macao and I think this is because it's a adult only resort and because of this it seem to give some people the wrong impression of what the resorts is or should be. For some the words Palace & Adult only, gives the impression that the resort is going to be a romantic environment full of mature people who will want to have peace and quite. But for some Adult only means a environment where a group of like mined adults can let their hair down have a good drink, party and enjoy their hard earned vacation without children running around and offending anyone. For people who want extremely quite I would suggest your stat by searching for a couples only resort, this is defiantly not one.
