Cost a lot of Rica
Hotel was good food hard beds and grumpy employees at times and hardly any of them speak English. You are not allowed to smoke anywhere on the resort the night shows are typical of most resorts kids had a blast
Nice location and very polite staff members
All inclusive nicely located hotel with direct access to the beach suitable to enjoy the waves and the sun. Japanese buffet restaurant was good as well as Liberia restaurant for daily breakfast and lunch. However I rated it 3 stars because the mattress and pillows where horrible, very old hair dryer that hardly heats and inefficient wifi.
I had read reviews on this hotel prior to going and they were very mixed so I decided to go with an open mind it is a shame to say that the bad reviews were right, this hotel is definiately not a 5 star it is what you would not even expect of a 3 star hotel the tables around the pool area were filthy there were disgarded pieces of lime from drinks thrown under sun loungers and the smell of drains was awful down by the pool bar, in my room there was someones ear plug at the side of the bed on the floor and on one occasion the towels in the bathroom were left and they had holes in them :(. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you expecially in the buffet restaurant which we ate in most of the time food was good but it would have been nice to go into one of the other restaurants the only way you could do this was queue up around 5.30 for opening at 6pm it was like being back at school they should have a booking system even if a few days notice had to be given who wants to go on holiday to a 5 star hotel and wait in a queue for dinner ? certainly not me
Lovely time at Riu Guanacaste
We had a lovely time. The staff is first rate in service and friendliness. Food was excellent - even the buffet restaraunt. Pools were a nice blend of couples and families. Entertainment was available for those that were interested.
2nd visit to Riu Guanacaste
We visited this Riu location Jan 6-13, 2020. Unfortunately our flight was delayed and we arrived around 8pm to the resort. Despite the long line at check in the staff worked through it pretty quick and provided refreshments while we waited. The front desk staff were very friendly! Our luggage was taken off the bus and placed in the lobby. My wife and I were traveling with a baby and had a fair amount of luggage to take to our room. Unfortunately the resort does not allow guests to use the carts to bring baggage to the room (I imagine it is because there were only 2 carts) I was told to write my room number on my bags and that they would be delivered. While I have never had any issues with theft at this resort we needed to get set up right away to get our 3 month old to bed. Not a major issue but a few carts at the front available for guests to use would be phenomenal. Our room was clean and ready on arrival. We had an ocean view on the 2nd floor at the front of the hotel, amazing view! A few minor issues with the room, our toilet had to be adjusted a few times as it ran the water all the time and was clogged with another guests parting gift which required a call to the front desk. Our tub had dirty towels in it on arrival as well. Our safe was a bit of a problem as well. Had to attempt key code at least 5-10 times before it would open. I was beginning to worry that the trip was going to be a rocky road! Woke up for a run 0530. Grounds were very clean. I noticed a few people comment on reviews regarding a sewage smell near the resort. I also came across a smell in some areas but it tended to be beside standing water, don’t think it was sewage. Just didn’t run near that puddle the next day and never found it again... Buffet could use another omelette station as it had a pretty decent line in the morning. Fresh fruit was always available and the coffee was delicious. We were greeted each morning in the buffet by exceptional staff. Very friendly, truly made you feel welcome! Pools were clean and it was not difficult to find a pool chair. There were always clean towels available in the towel hut. Lunch buffet was also great though the staff at the poolside lunch buffet were not as eager to pour drinks/water as breakfast. Your table would often be full of dirty plates by the end of lunch. The resort would benefit from a few more hot vegetable options at lunch. There appeared to be an activity schedule by the pool. We saw the activity staff perform their Riu dance on the bridge over the pool every day however there was not really any organized activities and the staff were not particularly enthusiastic to get people involved. We did see “Brian” who appeared to be the leader circle the pool with a clip board once during our week to take down your room number and name and ensure you had no complaints. If you are the type who enjoys organized activities and games at the pool side, you won’t find them here. I will not that on one evening they did a pretty crazy pool party which was well done. The a la carte system needs an overhaul. We were warned by Gilbert our sunwing rep that you must line up at 530 to get into the a la carte of your choice. He was correct, but the line you are actually in is the reservation line for that night. It is like every single person showed up for dinner at the same time. So if you actually wanted to eat at 6 you had to wait in line for the people who wanted to make a reservation for 7. While it is an interesting luxury to be able to eat at a la carte every night it was not a system that works, was certainly not accommodating to families with young children. Dinner buffet we saw the return of our breakfast staff at the Liberia buffet. Never disappointed. The night show was ok. The white party had amazing decorations and the place a set up in amazing way. It was a bit disappointing that it was just a dance floor with some dancers on platforms, not even live music for what appeared to be the biggest party of the trip. Staff were great to bring you a drink to your table. We had an amazing week. The weather was sunny, hot, and a bit windy every day. Twice during our stay we were able to witness baby turtles getting released on the beach. Careful snorkelling, I got a pretty decent jelly fish sting on the beach and a few other guests experienced the same as I. The scuba caribe staff sprayed me down with some vinegar and it felt better with in an hour. There were quiet a few people on the beach that were trying to sell items. Very annoying. New addition to this resort was the water park. Absolutely awesome addition to an already fantastic property! It is the weather, food, and friendly staff that keep us coming back to this resort. We will be back again and strongly recommend this resort. As with anything good there is always room for improvement and I hope this feedback falls into the hands of those who can take it and make this resort that much more amazing!
