Advisory *Important Note* Costa Rica will impose some restrictions for Holy Week. Alcohol is not permitted to be sold or consumed.     Back again for the 4th time

    4th time to CR , 3rd time at RIU Guanacaste . Have been changes. There is now a splash pool with water slides which was great fun & well monitored. Looks like more additions to the site but doesnt affect the main hotel area. Food is plentiful as ever & slightly better than previously. Hotel got very busy at weekend with extra guests but didnt spoil our holiday. But why would it. Rooms up to usual standard. Heard of cash going missing stay mindful & use the free safe. Would return again & again & again

    Amazing location – amazing vacation

    My husband and I stayed at the Riu Guanacaste November 4 – November 11. Everything was lovely and I don’t understand the negative reviews. We flew out of Montreal and when we landed in Liberia we were directed towards a French speaking bus. Kimberly the Sunwing representative quickly realized that we would be able to understand The tour information in an English speaking bus– Thank you so much Kimberly. Gilbert was the English-speaking representative from Sunwing and he gave an excellent narration on the trip to the hotel. Check in took less than five minutes. The rooms are large and beautiful – we were on the fourth floor overlooking the eco-park. We saw iguanas and monkeys in the trees and zip liners shooting past our window– You don’t see that every day in Canada! Angela in the Filadelphia bar during the day provided excellent service with a smile. I am so sorry I didn’t get the name of the lady who worked in the bar in the evenings but she made the absolute best special coffees I have ever had. I had two massages on the beach – they were $30 for one hour and they were amazing. It was called sisters massage and the two girls were named Estephanny and Katrina. I highly recommend you treat yourself to a massage while you are there. The food at the main buffet was excellent all the time – we didn’t even try to get into the specialty restaurants because there was a different theme at the buffet every night. Please ignore the negative reviews – I read them all and came in with mediocre expectations and was wonderfully surprised.

    Awesome vacation!!

    I’m not sure why there are negative reviews. The hotel is beautiful with lots of coconut trees. The are two pools. One kids pool and one swim up bar. Both which are amazing. There are lots of beach chairs. Yes it does get a bit loud with the locals coming in on weekends. The locals that visited were very polite to us. We went as a big group with 6 kids, 7 adults and my 7 month old baby. Make sure to take bug spray. There are bugs that bite. I got bitten quite a bit. The shows are amazing. The food had lots of favour and variety of choices. You do have to go at 5:30 or earlier to book the specialty restaurants. Our favourite was the steak (ocotal) I think that was the name. There is a small water park for the kids, which was nice for the kids. The beach is not your normal turquoise blue. It was nice though. We did the ATV with the hotel. I would not recommend the ATV for kids under 8. My friend fell off the ATV and the trainers did not have any first aid. Very bumpy and too long. We booked another excursion with Daniel from Matapalo tours and it was amazing. It was the miravalles package. He is near the beach. The driver Randy and our tour guide were soo nice. There’s a lady by the beach who does braids for $10 she does not belong to any company but does an amazing job (she looks Jamaican/Costa Rican). There are other people who charge $30 which work for companies. To sum it up, RUI kept its brand name. Thanks you Riu Guanacaste for a lovely vacation!!!

    Ladies week getaway October 2019

    The resort rooms and grounds are beautiful and well kept. The employees we encountered were awesome. Beach isn't the best (it smells bad and the color of the water is murky) Make sure to look for Daniella by the pool, she is awesome. We had pool service during the week but they did not do it on the weekend as there were too many kids.. The resort allows locals to visit with their children, our first week was great not too many kids but the second week was awful. Kids everywhere yelling and screaming and running all over the place. The water park opened which we thought may have helped with the noise around the pool if the parents brought their children there to play... There are two sections of the pool which they should limit the children where the pool bar is...

    Beautiful resort, But...

    I would like to start with the positives. Robinson ( waiter at the dinner buffet) thank you for everything! You made our stay so special. The way you decorated our table every night and always had our iced tea full! He was the best waiter I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! Also, Yahiara ( housekeeper on the 5th floor room 5048) wow wouldn’t even begin to describe how wonderful this woman is! She did bed and towel art for us that was so beautiful and made us feel so special! I posted pictures of what she did with our room below. Yahiara is the best housekeeper I have ever had at any resort. We tipped ( we always do) but I cannot believe what she would do to our room. Our clothes were folded and neatly put away. The room was beautiful for my birthday, wonderful service!We will miss her and Robinson so very much! Thanks to the both of you as this trip would not have been great without them..Now, this resort was sub par to other places we have been and has some big issues that NEED to be addressed. The rooms Really need an upgrade! The beds are old and uncomfortable and hard! The pillows are a joke! I had read reviews about the pillows and thought that it may have been picky people, they were not! They are small and lumpy, and look like an arm rest. We ordered up 3 more and it kind of helped. The buffet was great! The ala carte restaurant’s are just a buffet, maybe a glorified buffet but We didn’t wait in the long line to find out, everyone looked disappointed when walking out! Or mad waiting in line only to be turned away as you can’t make reservations! The pool was beautiful but we spent most our time at the beach! One day they ran out of towels! Two huge bins of dirty towels that did not get washed the whole day, just sat there and the staff just said they were out of them! We did not get a towel that day and seems ridiculous that the hotel wasn’t even full and no towels to use! The service was lazy except for the two I mentioned! This hotel encourages blackout drinking which is fine for a lot of people just not us! The liquor to drink is horrible but great for those who don’t care. The entertainment is great if you are blackout drunk and enjoying anything! Michael Jackson show was cool though! The sports bar food is terrible, unless you are very drunk and just eating whatever is available! It’s heartbreaking that these issues have never been fixed other reviews talk about them.We would come back but only if a remodel happens! Thanks again to Robinson and Yahiara! Owners need to fix this!!! The “fruit basket”the hotel sent for my birthday was also a joke , picture below! Disappointed but love CR!
