Go and make up your own mind...
We have just come back from a 14 day stay at this lovely hotel. The check in was smooth and we had a room on floor 5,just perfect for what we needed. It was spacious, cleaned everyday and with a mini bar restocked every two days with fizzy drinks, beer and water. The bathroom was big and clean. We were awoken every day to the sound of howler monkeys in the tress, a brilliant experience, The grounds of the hotel are truly beautiful and the view of the rainforest, mountains and sea only add to it. The food in the buffet was good.. Food was varied, well cooked and at breakfast, lunch and dinner we always found lots to eat. If you can’t find anything to eat here, there is no hope for you!! We had lunch in the Ocotal restaurant too. We ate at each of the a la Carte restaurants. The queuing for a sitting is annoying. The Asian was our favourite and I wouldn’t bother with the Italian as we get better back home. The steak one was ok and we liked La Toucan but not as much as the Asian, but it is all personal choice. The buffet was always good and often our default. Pool This was huge and we never had a problem getting chairs. There were some people making the most use of the all inclusive alcohol on their holidays but live and let live, I say. This is an amazing country in Central America. This hotel was exactly what I expected and paid for. We travel a lot and I can honestly say, I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
FABULOUS TIME AT RIU GUANACASTE
We just returned from a week stay at Hotel Riu Guanacaste. We traveled with two families, 4 adults and children ranging from ages 16-20. It was a wonderful vacation. One of the best! The check-in process went very well and check out even easier. I'm not sure why people complain about this or anything about this hotel. Maybe because they just like to complain. Our room was ready and cleaned and ready to go daily. The pool was awesome, clean and a lot of fun. I was extremely impressed by all the staff. They work hard and are so kind, patient and friendly. Friday night they had a NEON party and it is perfect for all ages. We especially liked Tanya who always talked to us and made us feel great. We were able to eat at all of the restaurants except for the Italian restaurant. Food was made fresh and very tasty. We planned several excursions through the hotel and everything was arranged perfectly. Costa Rica is an amazing place to visit and I would recommend staying at the RIU Guanacaste. Well worth your money.
Staff are great. However, this is a low class hotel, full of very loud drunks. If you love to party on cheap drinks and mediocre food, then this is the hotel for you. Excursions from hotel are extortionately high and Hotel supplied services (kayak, paddle boarding, snorkelling equipment) are never available.
Girl's bday trip
This is my second time staying at a RIU. They really aren't all the same. Lol I had a nice stay but the food could have been better. Even the restaurants on the resort usually have better food compared to the buffet area...not the case here. After 9pm you can only get snacks at the sports bar which has nachos and sandwiches. The beaches are pretty but the sand is very dark from the volcanic activity which makes the water dark as well. At this location there is also no room service available. They do make an attempt to keep you entertained by having shows or parties each night at the main stage. Check in took forever. Instead of one line for everything there is a line to check in and another to pay and then another to pick up your room key. :( The staff was friendly. Good luck with dinner at the restaurants....lines begin to form at 530 for 6pm dinner.
Next door is better...jus saying
I stayed here in July and the resort is fine. Its pretty enough, not really my style but had gone on a group retreat so I didn't choose it. Anyway for a place that is quite secluded, I found that there wasn't enough entertainment at the resort- especially in the evenings. There is a main area where the resort provided entertainment. Other than that there are two bars and a nightclub on the premises. The nightclub was ok but was filled with very young people (teens and early twenties) so I felt very old in there LOL. In addition, the food was not that great either and the restaurants (outside the main food hall) always had a queue and I only managed to eat at one out of the 3 restaurants - the Italian restaurant - which was average. The hotel says there are snacks 24 hours of the day but twice I went asking for food and they told us that they had run out of food and would not be restocking until 10am - this was around 1am in the morning. The beach is also not the prettiest considering we were in Costa Rica, the sand was dark because of volcanic activity. You would have to travel to other parts of CR to see pristine beaches.the mountains enclosing the beach and resort were beautiful though. Next door was another resort which we paid to visit for a day and the food, amenities, snacks and rooms were much better!! I understand the other resort is more expensive so that would explain that!
