Amazing Hotel !
We have just returned to the UK from a week at the Riu Bavaro Palace which was amazing and would definitely recommend. After reading reviews about unfriendly rude staff we were totally surprised to see how friendly and helpful they actually were. A huge thanks to Serkla on reception who was very professional when we checked in and the staff in the buffet restaurant who ensured we got the same table every morning and evening and provided us with an excellent service. Our room was in the VIP area which is well recommended as you have use of two adult only pools which are nice and relaxing. We did 2 trips with TUI, Adventure Boogie and Coco Bongo, both were fantastic experiences. This is our 4th visit to the Dominican Republic with the RIU group and this is certainly the best hotel we have stayed in, we will definitely be returning next year with no hesitation
Average not 5 star Service.
First time to the Caribbean and first time staying in a RIU, I had very high expectations of this hotel considering the amount I payed however was soon to be disappointed, the biggest let down is the staff, some were very rude, most provided slow service and can not recall anyone who made us feel special or went that extra mile. The hotel itself is very clean and modern, rooms are 8/10 what you see in the photos is what you get of the hotel. Entertainment was very poor for adults, average for kids, not much daytime entertainment. Good variety of restaurants however had a bad belly most of the holiday. I’ve since been to Mexico and feel that the standard in Mexico is 100x better in terms of the service, entertainment, things to do, food and service was incredible. I highly doubt I’ll be going back to Dominican and very unlikely to visit a RIU again. Stayed in Royalton Hotel in Mexico and is miles ahead of RIU.
WORST RESORT! READ THIS
Worst resort I have ever visited. Do not waste your money. I have never encountered such a rude team of staff in my life. The staff make inappropriate comments about young women’s bodies constantly and the manager is uninterested in doing anything but sitting in his office. We had a problems with the locks on our doors and had to go to the front desk three times in one hour because no one knew where the manager was. The deadbolts on the doors did not work in one of our rooms and did work in the other. after 3 days of them trying to fix it their solution to the problem was to lie to us and tell us that the deadbolt is not supposed to work and the one that does work is the broken one. The website for the riu is false advertising the pools pictures are only for VIP. The beach is rocky and I cut my feet multiple times on the rocks. The workers on the beach will harass you for money. They will throw monkeys or parrots on you and ask you for 20 dollars for a picture. They also treat the animals horribly. The food is the worst I’ve eaten in my entire life. The restaurants are slow and have a tiny and unappetizing menus. The only place with somewhat decent food in the buffet but after a week of eating the same food everyone dreaded meals there. The buffet had an extremely slow wait staff you had to wait 20 minutes for them to come to your table so that you could ask for water and the would come 20 minutes later with the water. There is a bartender named Pache that they have yet to fire, he drugs drinks and women have been sent to the ER because of him so watch out and pay attention to name tags. The pool parties were pretty fun. The rooms are pretty basic and are the same at the VIP rooms. The hotel in general needs to be updated it is overall very tacky. It felt unsafe for young women, the men on the staff are predatory and would use inappropriate language when speaking to you. The only good thing this vacation was the weather.
Very good Hotel -Recommeded
We visited Dominique republic for the first time and stayed at the RIU Palace Bavaro .We had free upgrade as we had slight concerns with our room . The Hotel is located within an are belonging to RIU Hotels and resorts . The service and food is of very good quality . Every night they have family shows plus pool parties for younger crowds ...etc Definitely RIU Hotels is a future destination for us
Avoid Riu Palace Bavaro at Playa Arena Gorda.
We read the reviews and decided to give it a try and it was a big mistake. We have never seen such unprofessional, arrogant and rude resort employees. First, there was no beach entertainment activities organized by the entertainment staff like in other resorts where we stayed. We had to ask the entertainment staff several times a day to organize some activities for the resort guests, but no one bothered or they did it with reluctance. The most unpleasant moments were dealing with the entertainment person named Norman (Jose Alfonso Norman Herrera), who is also the resorts’ entertainment lead and the evening shows host. What an unprofessional, arrogant person, was mean to the guests. Not sure who employed him, he lacks any abilities to work in this business. The resort staff lies if there are any issues and they blame each other. What a nonsense! The room sometimes was not cleaned properly. We saw someone’s hair on the floor that was not cleaned for several days. The mini bar was empty when we arrived, and no one cared to refill it throughout our stay. There was a construction in the same building, which used to wake us up at 8AM every day. The shower in our room did not work properly and the toilet did not flush. The flush was fixed on the second day; however, the shower remained broken. The beach benches were broken and dirty. The ocean was dirty, filled with trash and seaweed, which was everywhere, and no one cared to clean it for several days in the row. We saw the seaweed was cleaned every day at the Iberostar resort next to Riu, but at Riu Bavaro it seemed that the management did not care much about it. The resort staff simply chilled at the beach without doing anything and sometimes we had to ask them to move from the benches, so we could take them as there were not enough of them at the beach. We were also constantly bothered by the locals who tried selling us different stuff. Even if you are asleep, they would still wake you up and ask if you are willing to buy something. Rio Bavaro has 4 restaurants and the buffet, but only 2 restaurants were open a day. It was hard to get a table in one or the other one of the two opened restaurants because everyone else also wanted to dine in them. The service was very poor, the waiters were mean, the bartenders cheated all the time (instead of Jack Daniels, which I usually drink, every time they tried giving me the cheapest whiskey they had). We are not coming back, and not going to stay at any of their resorts.
