Not What We Expected
Let me start off by saying I have never put a bad review on Trip Advisor but wanted to point out some things about this resort. I will say the resort is very clean and well maintained. The staff at the resort were great and very helpful. The pools and bars were great. The location to Cabo was close and was easy to get transportation to town. Now the 2 things that would make us pick a different resort next time we go to Cabo. The first is not huge but wifi was very hard to use at the hotel. The wifi seem to be blocking everything expect for Facebook. The second thing and biggest issue for us was the restaurants. They have a buffet which is not very good basically a cafeteria. The a la carte restaurants were 5 in total. However those were not open every night having a random schedule with only 3 open on each day. The menus at these restaurants were very limited having only 4 entrees and some of these were not even available. That did not change for the 12 days we were there. We ended up eating off resort 5-6 times as we didn’t want the same meal again or having to wait over an hour to get in to the restaurant. The restaurants were the same at the other 2 Rius as well having the same issues. It’s too bad the the dinning will keep us from booking this resort chain again.
overall we had a great time at riu palace baja. the food was unremarkable, but plentiful . you should know that the hotel thinks walking outside onto your balcony to see part of the ocean, is a "partial ocean view", i don't, still a very nice balcony just the same. the room was large, clean, comfortable. the room had all we needed, free bottled water, and 4 kinds of hard liquor, reg. and light beer, great king size bed, ac and ceiling fan. the grounds are beautiful. the pools are large and in great condition . included free drinks, coffee, snacks were everywhere. staff was always happy, friendly, helpful. you have access to the other 2 riu hotels by walking a short distance. try the buffet at the palace, its really large and beautiful. we would loved to stay longer, and would return to this hotel. we also found the riu hotel in new york to be wonderful.
My hubby and I had a great time. We really enjoyed the pool and restaurants. This was our second time at a Riu resort and are looking forward to checking out another Riu in Jamaica next year with a few of our friends
Beautiful location with breathtaking view!
This was the 6th stay at a Riu Palace and the 1st time here. It was incredibly clean with great service and food. We were slightly disappointed that they could not supply lobster but that was because of high US tariffs. I have a gluten allergy and they worked with me as best they could. We never lacked for excellent meals. After day one, we requested a table with Yesinia for all our breakfast and luncheon meals for the full 8 days. She was attentive and remembered what all 7 of us liked. When she had a day off, her sister Soledad took great care of us also. The buffet had very misleading allery signs on all of the food. They listed most everything that had NO gluten as containing gluten. I brought this to their attention a few times. Avacados, cheese, eggs, all said gluten, and maybe another dozen or more signs. I know what I cannot have so I stayed healthy. Other than that, it was great. Entertainment was very nice and we particularly loved the piano music every night after dinner. We are an older group so the very loud parties at their Riu Santa Fe next door were not for us but they either ran from 2 to 7pm or 7 to 11pm. I would recommend a room as far from that hotel as possible if you go to bed at 9-10pm like me. There is an abundances of chairs at all four pools so you never had to save any! Ubaldo at the Daiquiri Bar made the best martinis. We always bring lots of extra money for tipping everyone every day. Our housekeeper Mariela kept our room spotless.
The food is aweful!!
Terrible horrible meals at all the restaurants. Customer service sucks, they could care less about your feelings. The only good thing about this resort is they party, they party hard. So it's truly your choice. The breakfast buffet was the only meal i enjoyed.
