    The Good: Very modern. Clean. Safe. Gorgeous view from the pool. Easy check-in and check-out. Everyone hospitable. Never a problem getting a cab for a large party. The coffee bar is good. The Bad: This is more of a hotel environment and in no way feels like a resort. I understand it is a new property and all the plantings are new, but there are no walking paths to just take a walk on, no fire pit to enjoy in the evenings, nothing like that at all. Let's talk about the food. We tried the Italian restaurant for lunch upon arrival and were pleasantly surprised. We thought there was hope for good food during our stay. The buffet for breakfast was just okay. We could usually find something to hold us until we could get into town. Don't even try the bacon though, no matter how pretty it looks. The steakhouse was meh. Steak had no flavor. Out of lobster, of course. The food at the fusion restaurant was truly inedible. We had a party of 6 and none of us could eat our food. It looked good though. Out of lobster here too. We left there and tried the boiled shrimp & stone crab at the dinner buffet. It was terrible and I literally had to spit it out. After that, we were done with their food. The upside is that we found some fantastic restaurants in town (and they had plenty of lobster). Now, about the beer, wine and alcohol. They only serve one beer brand by the pools and we found at the restaurants we tried, they did have a selection. One terrible red wine and one white wine. The alcohol was of low quality and there was a limited selection. There is only one bar open at night if you want an evening cocktail. I like to think that most people include food enjoyment as a part of their vacation experience and unfortunately, there was no enjoyment. We respect that you can't please everyone, but bad is just bad. The rooms are spacious and we had a view of the dirt lot next door. The bathtub is in the middle of the floor. The shower was big but there was no built in seat or step for those wanting to shave their legs without falling over. I have had better toiletries at a Holiday Inn. We won't be returning.

    FABULOUS Vacation!

    This is our second time to Cabo and I think we love it even more than the first time. This is the first time to the Riu Palace Baja California and it did not disappoint. I am not even sure if there is one thing to complain about. Our room was partial ocean view but in the courtyard. It faced the stage where they do the nightly shows. If you didn't watch the shows and were in your room while they were happening it was a little loud but didn't bother us too much. Certainly nothing to really complain about. The room itself was so nice, spacious and clean. The shower was the absolute BEST! Better than any shower I have ever used. I looked forward to showering. Sounds silly but once you try it you will understand. The food was delicious all around. We really enjoyed the buffet. We loved the taco stand on the pool deck (can't remember what it was called). The french fries were so good. We loved the a la carte restaurants. Especially Fusion. It was the best. The beef tenderloin was so yummy. The service and the people who work there are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of. You can walk to the other 2 Riu properties as they are right beside each other. We cannot wait to go back it was literally that good!

    Miss it by this much!

    New property apparently! quite beautiful, great layout easy access to everything. The rooms were great. The staff was most excellent and aimed to please. The cleaning stuff maids in particular are A listed fabulous at there position Major problem with specialty restaurants not enough seating, saw and was turned away due to no availability. Buffet was very good. Entertainment at the pool was fun and not too over barring, night entertainment was slow and a bit boring ,but not too bad. Met a great group of people and spend most of the day in the pool.

    Worst Staff and customer service

    At Riu Palace Baja California-Adults Only I experienced the worst vacations ever. I booked the most expensive room for my birthday and the ceiling was full of stains from water leaks. Staff do not seem to be interested in assisting you if you speak Spanish(Even Though they are Mexicans and speak Spanish). They seemed to be focused on assisting the English-speaking folks to trick them into paying more and tipping more for the simple stuff. (I still tipped every staff member that gave me some service in the restaurants and bars). My best advise is if you go there try to avoid speaking Spanish so you can be treated as a tourists. I came from New York and speak both languages fluently but decided to speak Spanish to them to so they can understand me better. The food is a disaster. The buffet does not offer many choices. Just Tacos,tacos and more tacos. At times we had to actually go outside the resort to find decent food. I requested help from the customer service department for an issue with my luggage and they said they had nothing to do with it. I told them I understand but since I come from another country I was not able to use my celphone to call. I was asking for them to please put me in contact with somebody that can help, but they did nothing. The supervisor was advised of this and they did nothing either. Because the airline lost my luggage I spent the whole vacation having to buy clothes from local stores. I had to cancel all my activities I had programmed in my itinerary. I did not have any clothes or my wife's medicine since she is pregnant and I couldn't find a way to contact the airline. I had to pay $150.00 us Dollars for a taxi to bring us to the airport and back just to find out what happened to our luggage. After I found out that my luggage was not going to arrive on time I asked the hotel manager to try to help me on extending my stay so I can enjoy. I was willing to pay!. They said we will find out what we can do. That was on July 19, 2019. on july 21, 2019 I asked the manager if they were able to find out some information and the manager said they were not informed of the issue, So we called the supervisor I spoke to two days before and they said again they will find out and let me know. Turns out they never even cared about assisting with this. on july 23, 2019 I was checking out of the hotel and I saw them face to face and they did not even bother to ask if I was assisted. Basically what I learned from this hotel is that YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN HERE.

    Annual Cabo vacation

    We have stayed at various resorts in the Cabo area for many years. Our last two stays were at the sister hotel The Riu Palace. We have never been disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. This year we tried the relatively new Riu Baja California. The property is fresh and contemporary , which we liked. We asked, and paid for, an ocean front room. Upon checkin we noticed that our room was facing the ocean, however, was recessed and only had a partial ocean view and a lot of rooftop view. We were promised a different room which we did get after two days. No big deal. The rooms are nice and we found ours to be quiet. The dining are bar experiences left a lot to be desired. The buffet is limited as compared to the Riu Palace. Also the on site restaurants were mediocre , at best. The "steak house" felt like a Dennys and the steaks were inferior in quality and preparation. The Italian food had a decent flavor, however, it was cold and the service was poor. We found ourselves gravitating to the old Palace for breakfasts and lunches. At night we simply went out to find food worthy of a vacation. The wine was mostly undrinkable and the liquors and vodkas were clearly watered down. Did not go there to drink as much alcohol as possible like spring break in college, however, expect a drink to taste like it should and not part water!The attitude and helpfulness of the employees was hit and miss. Housekeeping was excellent, bartenders had an attitude and overall the employees lacked the spark and genuine customer care attitude exhibited at the Palace and other resorts in the area. Overall, the property could use some on going training in the best practices and meeting the expectations of customers at a higher line resort.
