    Rude staff and rooms in need of renovations!!!

    I am writing to you to inform you of the of the HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE THAT I HAD AT THE RIU PALACE HOTEL in Aruba, Which was booked and recommended from Jet Blue Vacations. First on the day of check in we booked and confirmed a room with 2 double beds we checked in a registered at the hotel when we went up to the room it had ONE king bed, we called the front desk and was told sorry there were no rooms with 2 beds they ask to us to call the desk the following day after check out of 2 pm and they could check if they could find a room with 2 bed. She we had to spend the night sharing one bed which was not what we booked, the following day we stopped at the front desk and ask if any rooms with 2 beds came available with a major ATTITUDE from the front desk we finally got our room changed with to help from the hotel with the moving of our bags. A few hours after moving to room 1503 we went to sit on the balcony and the handle and lock to the door were broken as you can see in the attached photo's " and was broken for quite some time as you can see from the rust on the door" so we called the front desk to inform them of the broken lock on the door we were told 'DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT YOU ON A HIGH FLOOR NO ONE WILL BRAKE IN" WE CALLED A 2ND TIME ON SATURDAY THE 14 TO INFORM THEM FOR THE 2ND TIME THE DOOR WAS STILL BROKEN SUNDAY THE 15 FOR THE 3RD TIME AND ON MONDAY THE 16TH While trying to open the door to come into the room from the balcony the handle came off in my hand which went threw the glass and cost me to fall and FRACTURE MY LEFT FOOT DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE STAFF AT THE RIU PALACE HOTEL, When I limped down to the front desk to inform them what had happened the MANGER CARLOS ask if I would like him to call a doctor for a fee of $200.00 or I could just take a taxi on the morning to a local hospital for an x-ray at this point I was so upset the the total dis-concern from the hotel I just wanted to go home when I ask for ice for my injury I was told to go to my floor and get it from the ice machine. 'SO RUDE" so I lost the last 3 days of my vacation because I had to lay with ice on my foot and I could not walk due to the PAIN. I could go on on with complainant of the hotel from the food and drinks which were very very poor which cost us to eat at local restaurants for additional fee's, but we just wanted a vacation to sit back and relax this by far was not that. I have to say that I am so upset with JET BLUE because I called 3 times to inform you of my experience and did not received a phone call back not once to inform me on what was going on with the hotel, the only phone call I received was when I was Disconnected after being on hold for 40 minutes, I have been flying Jet Blue sine 2000 and I will still fly with you but I will not book another vacation package with your hotels.

    Decent place to stay

    People are nice. Food is good. Air conditioning could be a bit better. Zero nightlife All in all a great place to stay with the exception of their security. An issue on the beach and they didn't handle the situation correctly

    Very enjoyable without being stellar

    Positives: the pool was great. Staff friendly. Beach excellent. Rooms kept very clean and tidy. Nice feeling of space. The a la carte restaurants were excellent. Negatives: hotel decor was dated. Food in the buffet restaurant was ok if not very memorable. I had a great time but wasn’t a 5 star stay.

    Birthday Trip

    We spent 7 nights at Riu Palace. The room was exactly as pictured as well as the view. We enjoyed the food and drinks. No reservations for dinner but we only had to wait one night. Lobster, steak, sea bass, and champagne were my food highlights. Beach has soft white sand and clear water.

    A Palace Not Fit for a King

    The RIU is a value resort that will get the job done but will not leave you wanting more. Our room category was comfortable for a junior suite (which we paid for/not an upgrade) for three of us. The pull out like most had very little padding and was quite uncomfortable. The service was not bad but no one left a memorable impression. The hotel itself was clean but if you are not a smoker the primary lounge which leads into the casino and the outside where the night attractions are held had ALOT of smoking which became uncomfortable. We were also very disappointed at the number of restaurants that were closed. There are only about 4 restaurants including the buffet and each night at least one was closed. The lunch restaurant was also closed for two if the four days we were there leaving you with only w/the buffet as your only lunch option. You also did not know which one was going to be closed until the day of so if you had your heart on an option you might have to prepare to be disappointed. If you are an adult you can visit their “adults only” sister hotel right next door which is pretty dated. The food selection is not terrible but very basic for both properties. The pool was great and the beach was AMAZING. Not a deal breaker, but neither property has a jacuzzi unless you are utilizing their spas. We were looking for a quick 4 day 3 night so we did not do any additional activities besides jet skiing which was a reasonable $65 for 35 minutes and could be arranged right in the beach. Also, if you have the opportunity, do check out the restaurant bar on the pier. While it is not part of the all inclusive RIU property, it is a fun scene especially at happy hour right before the sunset. Overall, an enjoyable stay as long as you understand what you are paying for.
