Good time, good value
We are legacy timeshare owners at this property (before the Riu bought and remodeled it). This was the first year in a long time that we purchased the all-inclusive meal plan. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. The property is well maintained. Each day at sunset, you can see the entire crew hosing down the pool area. And at night, you see staff making small repairs or touch-ups to things. The hotel staff has some clear stars who provide excellent service, including Henry at the buffet, Yovany at the lobby bar,and Victor at the pool bar. Sometimes requests to other staff need to be repeated, so I would give overall service at the Riu an average rating with room for improvement. In terms of food, breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet was varied and tasty. Highlights include the jerk chicken and salad bar offered at lunch and dinner. And the hash browns at breakfast are not to be missed! Mexican night at the buffet (Wednesday night) was my favorite. We only tried one theme restaurant (Japanese) and it was just okay, so we didn't pursue any additional theme restaurants during our stay. We did offer a compliment one day to the manager on the food quality in the buffet and he sent a bottle of champagne to our room - that was a really nice touch. I can't compare this experience to other all-inclusive hotels (this is my only one), but I can tell you that the cost is less expensive in Aruba than dining out for all of your meals.
RIU Palace May 2019 Trio
So this was out first trip to Aruba and it was for my wife’s 50th. We were given room 1135 with a fantastic view of the ocean. The room was very nice. We loved the way the buffet was set up and had plenty to choose from. The bread could have been fresher. The steak house was pretty good but we could not get in there on Friday because of a wedding. The Italian was good but again the bread needed to be fresher. Had to get down to the beach earliy to get a chair as those went quick. Drinks were plentiful and it was nice to have the room fridge restocked daily. They also left a cake for my wife’s birthday and the staff every where we went was very nice. I did wish the sports bar had a few mare snacks to choose from. Nightly entertainment was good and enjoyed just sitting out having a cocktail. We were Able to book tours right in the hotel. The only thing I say I wish they would change it to limit the smoking areas it ruins the beach or the area you are sitting at when there are so many smokers.
Our room was a junior suite, it was very nice and well appointed. The air con was needed! we had a good view of the pool and the beach. they hotel describes their restaurants as A La carte but I would say that they are theme restaurants, having said that they food in them was very good with the exception of the steakhouse. We went twice , the first time the steak was chewy and stringy, the second time there was apparently a problem in the kitchen and it ended up that 30 people were waiting for their meals which made the meal very long and late. The staff were attentive and would do anything in their power to help you. being beside the pool during the day was difficult as the parasols on offer were some kind of net and didn't give much shade. Sunburn can happen very quickly. The beach offered respite from the organised pool games music and exercise classes but in order to get any shade someone had to go at 7am to secure an umbrella even though that was frowned on by the hotel. A big plus was the installation of optics in the room all included in our package. !!! I would recommend the Krystal , Japanese and Italian restaurants.
25th Anniversary Celebration
This trip was 25 years in the making and well worth it. We arrived on May 20th for a 7-night stay. I'm not a buffet eater per say however this one impressed me along with 5 speciality restaurants we tried out the steakhouse as well as the Italian X2 both were great. We were told that the rooms are partial ocean views however we had full view of the ocean Rm 744 we only had a juliette balcony however we spent very little time in the room. They had nightly entertainment which was great, the only night that I was not impressed with was beach night as the celebrations were on the beach, not a great location. The staff were ever present and willing to assist. Wifi all around the resort at no extra cost. Only other negative we were told we had a $300 room credit however what we realized was the credits were limited based on coupons with a percentage off that were were given upon arrival.
Happy Island, not
Currently staying at the Palace and they continually tell you it's the happy Island. Well all I can say is, they need to tell their staff. I've seen more smiles from am imprisoned convict, don't be fooled
