    FIRST but certainly NOT last

    Recently spent 10 days at the RIU Palace Aruba. We have previously stayed at other RIU’s in different countries and love the resort family. Like everything, you get positive and negative opinions. While this wasn’t my favorite RIU, it was still a great vacation on One Happy Island! Our room was on the 5th floor in the main building, with an ocean view. The room was spacious, clean and well stocked, many thanks to Michelle W. The waitstaff at the buffet and steakhouse were amazing. Jairon at the dinner buffet was friendly and learned our likes. He had our drinks prepared and at our table the moment he saw us walk in. Madelyn, our breakfast waitress, always greeted us with a smile. She too knew what we drank and had them on our table almost before we sat down. They both have tremendous work ethics and positive attitudes. We looked for them and went directly to their stations every time. They are both huge assets to the RIU team. There were some minor glitches. The TWO, yes only two, elevators were not air conditioned. Neither was the “workout” room. Too small to be called a gym. The equipment needs a serious upgrade. It is creaky and weight plates are missing on some machines. The pool doesn’t seem to have a great filtration system. The staff cleaned it everyday. They were scrubbing and cleaning every day by 5am, but you can’t feel any fresh water circulating through the pool jets. None of this would ever stop us from returning here, but just throwing them out there as improvement opportunities. Although you can use the facilities at the Palace Antillas, the few times we went there, there didn’t seem to be much life. We did not travel with kids, but the energy and joy they bring, made us know that we made the right choice for us.

    Not the best place for sure

    Food was gross! 2 small elevators for hundreds of ppl and were hot as ac in them! 4 is those elevators broke down..I decided to not get on after that mind u I was on 9th floor..this place is not relaxing at all! The buffet was an assembly line..the steakhouse was first come first first serve so u had to wait outside in line an hr before they even opened to ensure a table . crazy to me!!!! The italian restaurant was not even edible. Did not try the other 2 restaurants because we were disappointed.. we ended up going in town and eating at Gianni and daniels restaurant..Amazing.. The pool was wonderful however unhave to put a towel on ur chair the night b4 or very early in morning to ensure u get a chair...again, very stressful..will not be staying here again

    Moldy mattress and lost passport

    We went here for a family vacation. Upon check in, no drinks or warm welcomes. Instead, the staff member checking me on, informed me that she couldn't proceed because I didn't have my passport. I was shocked my passport was missing from the stack handed to me since we just went through immigration at the airport and out them back into the zipper pouch. I asked for them back thinking that it was in between another. Not there. I'm like your sure you don't have it? Nope. I started panicking and asking the next steps which she said I'd have to go back to the airport. I then asked for a restroom before we headed back to the airport at which point she found my passport on the desk she was checking us in on. After I asked. After she told us we lost the passport. Glad it was found. But annoyed with how it was handled. Setting me in a panic before she did her due diligence to check. Next we needed a bed since the room had a king and we needed a bed for my daughter. We asked when our bags were dropped off. No bed was brought so we went to the front desk. They said 20-30 min. And hour and a half later they delivered a moldy mattress. It was so gross. Meanwhile we tried out the Italian restaurant and the service was poor and the food was sub par. The meat was full of fat and inedible. My son described the dessert as tasting like wet bread. Stopped by the buffet and it was waaaaaay better. I will say we've been at tons of all inclusives over the years and this one is the least kind impressive of all.

    Came here for a friends wedding on 7/20/24. We did not stay at the resort, so we bought a day pass. After getting our IDs back (and cutting off our wrist bands) the hotel security would not let us back in after walking outside to call a cab or let my very intoxicated girlfriend back in to use the bathroom. We were obviously struggling on the steps there and he just stood there watching. And blocked us from using the revolving door to get back in. I would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Come here at your own risk.

    Amazing stay

    I was a little nervous after reading some of these bad reviews, but we had such a wonderful trip. The workers are constantly cleaning and the food was really good. We had a blast at the white party at the Antillas on Friday night. They set up 2 theaters to watch the soccer finals, for those that were interested. The gym states that it opens at 7 am, but it's never locked so you can get there before the crowds. This resort is about a 15 minute walk to the shopping district and about 25 minute walk to the Jolly Pirates. We were in room 1036 and we had 0 complaints. Heads up, the drinks are NOT watered down.
