    Wasn't bad, just ok

There were so many missed opportunities to make this a great experience, so many hiccups from the moment we stepped foot onto the property. We arrived Saturday afternoon close to 3, and not only were we not even greeted into the resort, there was no welcome drink, as in other all inclusives. Someone saw the lost look on my husband and my faces and directed us to where the checkin was. Our room was not available so we went to grab some lunch and scope out the resort. Past reviews were not kidding, this resort is very outdated. On our way to our room, we noticed there was broken glass in the hallway and naturally we reported it as anyone can easily be walking barefoot and hurt themselves. Carpets in hallway were filthy, you could tell they had not been vacuumed for days... Fast forward to Monday afternoon, the glass was still there, we reported it a total of 3 times and when we advised housekeeping, they said the "gentleman" who takes care of that hadn't been around and that's not part of their took pictures and even showed the staff downstairs but yet nothing was done until Monday afternoon... The tub in the bathroom had all sorts of dings and scratches, water temp would be hot one minute then cooler the next... The food was ok, breakfast and lunch were the better options. They do not accept reservations so if you wanted to make it to dinner at a decent time, you needed to stand in line by 5:30 for the 6:30 seating. Otherwise you will be given a pager for the 2nd seating closer to 9 pm. Not impressed with the dinner options whatsoever. We ended up eating outside of the resort a couple nights, which defeated the purpose of having paid to be at an all inclusive. There was someone manually cleaning the pool with the swim up bar, as there is no skimmer and the pool gets full of leaves from the wind as well as globs of oil from people's suntan lotion. We had a very unfortunate encounter at the spa with a young lady named Vivian, when she who took our reservation she made a mistake and booked us for the wrong day. When my husband and i showed up for our appointment, she blamed US for the wrong booking date, and said she even tried calling us, but yet she left no voice mail. She became extremely rude, talking down to us to the point where the manager came out and told us that she had no right to speak to us that way to please stay and give them another chance. Another associate that witnessed the exchange also said she was in the wrong in speaking to us, the customers, in that manner. I personally work in Retail and would never ever speak to a customer in the manner she did to us, to make matters worse it was my birthday! Not the best experience, we have traveled to quiet a few all inclusive resorts and unfortunately could not help but compare.

    Did NOT meet expectations

My boyfriend and I stayed here the past week for 5 nights/6 days. We booked this trip with Travel Liberty, an agency near our home. We are in our early-mid twenties and we were told by our agency that this hotel would be a great fit for us!! However, we were extremely disappointed in the hotel. There were a few things that really jumped out to us... 1. SO outdated!!! The rooms were so outdated, the lobby, the restaurants, everything was so incredibly outdated, tacky, and dingy looking. When I’m at a tropical resort, I would like to feel like I’m staying in tropical paradise not a dingy hotel with zebra print, hot pink, and popcorn walls. Also, our toilet took minutes to flush as the plumbing was just so horrible. It seemed to almost clog every few flushes. Also, we had to mess around for minutes with the shower to get a nice temperature water because it just was so temperamental and touchy. There was also mold around the finishes in the bathroom and stains in the sheets. TV did not work. Also, the beds were SO uncomfortable, oh my gosh. 2. The FOOD. Sometimes, the food was good. Sometimes, the food was so, so horrible. Upon booking, we were told that we would have access to ALL RIU Antillas and RIU Palace options but we were only granted access to the RIU Palace buffet, not any of the a la carte. This was very disappointing especially since there were only 3 a la carte options, 1 of which was the steakhouse which would have a line by 5:30 and fill up. We went to the other 2 a la cartes, a fusion place and Italian, which were okay. Nothing special but I’d say they served rather small portions. The buffets were okay, either a hit or miss. I will say I often left feeling quesy and the food did not sit well in my stomach. The 24/7 options were disgusting, they serve nachos with ground beef, beans and cheese wiz that all looks very old and hot dogs with rolls that crumble because they’re stale. I avoided this at all costs. The cocktails were okay, nothing special. I hated that you could not get a straw!!! I like to drink my cocktails with a straw as I like to mix it and my teeth are sensitive to ice. The other hotels and restaurants offer paper straws. This wasn’t an option here. 3. The service- I’m shocked at all of these reviews raving about the service. I often had to flag waitresses down for drinks, refills, plate removals, etc while dining. The pool service was also incredibly slow. Waiting, waiting, and waiting just for a beer. You could tell that the employees were all running around like dogs which just shows the hotel is understaffed. 4. The entertainment- this hotel was DEAD by 10:00. The pools close early, the bars close early, etc. All of the entertainment was tailored to older adults, bingo, Zumba, etc. also, the poolside entertainment started late (like 4:00, bingo at 5) which I couldn’t even enjoy because we like to take showers and get ready for dinner around that time. All in all, there was really not much going on. Maybe they tailor towards older adults but our travel agent swayed us to believe otherwise. Conclusion; this hotel did not meet our expectations. We stayed at another hotel for the beginning of our trip which was AMAZING. If you’re looking for quality, AVOID at all costs. PLEASE, spend your money elsewhere. The restaurants in Aruba are AMAZING, the all inclusive does not let you experience Aruba at its finest. avoid avoid avoid AVOID!!!

    Great time

10 of us went to Aruba and stayed at Riu Antilles. As most reviews stated the rooms were definitely dated but they were alway very clean. We didn’t spend a lot of time in our rooms but they were comfortable! The staff and food made up for the dated rooms! Management was repeatedly checking with visitors to make sure that things were going well and that we were happy! The beach was right there and the pools were great. Anything that needed fixing was taken care of ASAP and extra blankets were delivered in a timely manner as well! It was connected by a walk way to the Riu palace for exploring and using the amenities. We all enjoyed our stay and would recommend if the rooms were updated all and all a great time was had by all! We also visited the butterfly farm which was awesome and an aloe Vera factory and store.

RIU Palace Antillas is a dump!

We booked our Aruba Vacation through United Vacations. We did our home work the best we could on the internet with the limited pictures and reviews available. The Representative with United Vacations sold us on the Riu Palace Antillas. We upgraded our room to what we were told was a private beach front suite on the beach. Upon arrival at the hotel, I knew we had made a mistake! The hotel is run down, out dated and tacky. Its rough! The room they put us in was on the 14th floor. The furniture is beat to hell, the tv's are small, poor connection like a 1970's tv and the remotes did not work. Your limited on when you can eat and the alcohol is watered down. Its so bad, the switches on the night stand lamps did not work and to turn the lamps off we had to unscrew the light bulbs! Carpet is bad. Paint is horrible. Amenities week. Thankfully, we booked the trip through United Vacations. We called United Vacations and they moved us to the Hyatt Regency. Much better. And they have a DJ with a PA System blaring until 2am. We will never stay at an RIU again.

    Needs updating

Just came back from the Riu Palace Antillas. It was a nice hotel and the staff was great, however, the hotel rooms are in need of a facelift. The bathrooms had cracked and broken tiles. This was also true for the sleeping area. There was also a constant moldy smell in the hallways. I understand it was originally a Westin and I guess they tried to get by with little or no improvements. While I do admit that you don't stay in the hotel room all the time, it would be nice to have a nice looking room. Also, I thought the fact that they didn't take reservations for the restaurants was going to be a problem given the fact that they were small-that wasn't the case. There was only one night where we couldn't get into the restaurant of our choice. The food was good. I have stayed in several Riu hotels in the past and in my opinion this one really didn't meet the standards of those other ones.
