Nov 28, 2024Nice resort for family
The property was good and the view. We enjoy the entertainment. The only thing we wish was change was the choices of daily food. During our stay, it was the same choices of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A few of the staff are not friendly but it didn't spoil our trip.

We observed a concerning lack of care for guests and a noticeable disinterest in ensuring their wellbeing. The food quality in all the "themed" restaurants was significantly below expectations, and customer service was virtually non-existent throughout our stay. Additionally, the mixed events where intoxicated individuals were in shared spaces with children created an uncomfortable and inappropriate environment. These issues combined to make our experience deeply disappointing. It is truly disheartening, as we had high expectations given the property’s association with the RIU brand.

Nov 27, 2024So many missed opportunities to deliver a “5 star” experience. Disappointed.
I visited Riu Ocho Rios with around 15 family members whilst travelling for a funeral and as a hotelier myself I can say this hotel misses the mark when it comes to “luxury 5 star hospitality”. This is my second time staying at the property and the rooms are now dated, with no dressing gowns or slippers provided. The sheets provided on beds are paper thin, no duvets and expect a 2 hour wait if you request some blankets to keep warm. If you happen to need a room change because of dissatisfaction of your room (we were given the wrong room type upon checkin) you’re told to return the next day at 12pm, but don’t expect your new room before 4pm. This caused us to have to wait around for several hours without a room and effectively took up most of our day. It will also take over 90 minutes for the bell hop to attend to your bags, adding to the inconvenience. There’s no room service, or even any guidance in the room on how to call reception, housekeeping etc. The specialty F&B outlet closes at 9pm and the all day dining closes at 10pm. So if you happen to miss dinner the only food available is in the Sports Bar where you will be lucky to get some lukewarm patties or cold, cheap pizza. The food in the ADD is lacking of flavour, and I must say, breakfast in Jamaica without the islands national dish of ackee and saltfish offered is just shocking. The limited positive attributes of the property is the extensive selection of drinks, entertainment and some friendly staff. When I repeatedly asked to speak to the GM or even Director of Rooms to relay my feedback, staff told me the GM was on vacation and the Director had just left for the day. I suppose they don’t hand over responsibility to alternative superiors during their absence? Hmm. To summarise you can tell the owners are cutting corners here to save on costs and it shows in the overall guest experience and surely in repeat visitor numbers. I’ll likely try somewhere else next year!

I had a really great stay
Staff very warm & welcoming. Room very nice & clean. Bed so comfortable, slept very well. Food was also very good. I really enjoyed my birthday vacation at Hotel Riu Ochi Rios. I definitely recommend & will be back for a longer stay. 🎉🤗🥳♏️🙏🏾💟🍹🙌🏾🫡
