    Just returned from Riu Niaboa in Dominican Republic we travelled in a group of 8 (4 couples) with a further 2 couples coming out the second week. Whilst I would say we had a fab holiday this was more down to the company enjoyed and the fabulous beach rather than the hotel. The hotel is lovely and clean Mon to Fri however the locals seemed to desend at the weekends and staff would struggle to cope, holiday makers already there would become invisible. The hotel could not cope with the amount of guests and you would struggle to get a shower or even flush the toilet at certain times of the day. The hotel is advertised as 24 hour all inclusive however this is not the case as the snack bar shuts at midnight or even earlier some nights and no food is available until breakfast next day. The bar is advertised as open whilst 6am however staff turn the lights off when they want to shut, the 24 hour all inclusive most refer to the optics in your room. The speciality restaurant (steak/italian) is a joke we visited on 4 occasion the service was poor and staff extremely rude and would walk away when asked any questions. On one vist our table of 8 only got 6 starters and 6 plates, on another we didn't get any wine even though we asked and on another we didn't get any starters and out final visit we waited 2 hours for a table even though we arrived early enough and guess what no starters (the locals didn't seem to be having the same problems as us). Prior to booking we where told that we could use the Riu Bamboo next door to have a drink or lunch again this is not true and depending on the mood of the staff you could be turned away. Whilst the animation team work extremely hard and long hours most of its in Spanish so most evenings we had to make our own entertainment. I would describe this hotel as a good 3 star budget deffinately not a Riu hotel, it's not 24 hour all inclusive, there no sports bar and the only bar available during the day is the pool or beach bar theres no hotel bar until 6pm.

    RIU NIABOA

    We were 4 couples trvelling together as friends aged between 38 & 58. 21 Oct - 5 Nov for two weeks. 3rd time in a RIU hotel but 1st time in the Niaboa, hotel is clean and nicely designed. Most of the staff struggled to understand basic English which was a struggle at times. There is only 1 pool at this hotel althought we were told at the time of booking that we could use RIU Bambo hotel and have drinks and lunch at this hotel this is not the case, you can walk around all the 3 RIU Palace hotels and Bambu but are not allowed to have refreshments and food, though we were aware about the Palace rule. The restaurant - steak/italian - manager or head waiter was rude, didn't answer questions didn't understand us walked away when we weren't happy. 4 visits and received terrible service every time on one occasion no drinks, another no starters as we waited two and half hours to be served after requesting a table one hour before even being seated, local arrive at weekends and seem to take preference over other holiday makers. Not all staff had this atitude and some where very nice. We did have a fab holiday and made the most of the hot weather beach club bar and beach. My opion is this hotel is not RIU standard and does not offer the same as other RIU hotels. It is not 24hr unless you count the fact there are optic spirit drinks in your room, which i think is the only resemblance the hotel had to a RIU hotel. There is no sports bar (which is usually the 24hr bar) which was disapointing as Rugby world cup was on during our stay. The buffet restaurant was ok they tried to cater for everyone, we always found something nice to each. They have 4 pool parties each week for adults, which are great and make up for the poor entertainment on some days, the animation team worked really hard and long hours trying to join e eryone in whenthey could. The water park is ne t door and free to use which looked good for bith children and adults. Pasha night cub was close to the hotel but drinks are not included also there is a casino a ross in the palace where drinks are also not included. Overall i was disappointed with this hotel but we still had a fab holiday.

    Enjoyable holiday

    I stayed in Riu naboia from 9th October to 23rd with my family hubby 2 children (16 & 12 ) and family friend after reading worrying reviews regarding the state of the hotel, service and thefts I was concerned but decided to go with an open mind! Iam glad I did word of warning before you even get your transfer coach at the airport you are literally jumped on by people trying to “help” you with your luggage they just take it and want money then if you get away from them your accosted as you walk out there are big groups of men wanting to take your luggage or sell you all sorts of stuff once you find your coach men are waiting to load your bags on the coach which we thought was the driver but wasn’t he then demanded money we tipped him but he got angry and wanted more !! At the hotel the check in was quick our bags are taken to rooms by a porter the rooms are ok clean but some smell very musky due to the humidity everything feels slightly damp! I had a room with a pool view which was lovely! The food hall is big and has plenty of choice and is air conditioned which is very needed there is also al a cart alternating between steak night and Italian which both are pleasant the staff struggled with understanding English and they gave out meal sizes depending on what size steak they thought you could eat so my skinny husband that can eat like a horse was given a small steak and our larger friend a double the size steak he couldn’t manage plus they don’t serve drinks in there not a problem if they told you ! There is entertainment day and night which is good the staff work very hard long hours and are brilliant at their jobs we made a great friendship with a waiter maiguel he was the best by far he worked so hard and was so professional always making sure we had drinks and making us the most amazing special shots plus making none alcoholic ones for younger kids a true asset to this hotel nothing was to much for him he tryed so hard to speak English and wanted to learn too !! The entertainment team was brilliant always engaging with the guest they had their own catchphrase’s the most heard one was “oh my gosh “ which does start to grate a bit after a few days! The staff always come over and fist punch every guest they see or walk past it’s very lovely and friendly everyone says hello absolutely all the staff say it and smile all the time! The Buddha bar is great playing music the staff sing and dance to while making cocktails. The cleaning staff are great too our lady Madelein (not spelt correctly) was the happiest joyful lady ever helped us do our laundry and had it eased dryed and neatly laid on my bed within 3 hours instead of the 48 we was told. Weekends the locals come to stay so it gets busy but still didn’t make much of a difference ! The safes are a hit and miss it seems common that the battery part that’s inside the safe to come lose and stop working or not lock at all this happened to every other person I spoke to! The morning yoga class was brilliant the staff member really knew what he was doing he’s name was blue (again not sure of spelling) my husband hurt he’s shoulder playing volleyball and blu did something to it that sorted it out ! Please go here with an open mind I had one of the best holidays here we met some truly amazing people that made this holiday even better, friends we are staying in touch with ! I can not recommend the waiter MIGUEL enough this man works so hard and is great at he’s job, a true gentleman really should be praised for he’s hard work. The pool party’s are great too over 18 only but great fun !

    Arrived ,hotel looked nice from out side check in went smoothly but no welcome drink was offered which would have been nice. Up to room which was filled with balloons and towel decorations which was a nice touch initially. Mosquito squashed on bathroom mirror which was still there when we left 14 days later. If they spent more time on cleaning as they did on towel decorations it would be great as cleaning not great. Furniture tired but beds comfortable. Service ok first week but second week absolutely terrible it felt like we were invisible. Food good first week but went down hill second. Mature-d in Panama restaurant very rude. Pool lovely and clean. Dress code not adhere to in restaurant,hygiene standards very very poor . Says no reservations of sun beds what a laugh people putting towels on at 6am in morning ,which on notice board staff will remove them never saw any staff remove then even though they walked passed them.

    4*? - very hit and miss.

    So we booked this hotel last minute and were surprised we could afford the Caribbean on our budget, we found out why. This hotel is no where near what we expected from a 4* billing, but is a perfectly reasonable 'budget' option. There are 2-3 other hotels in the resort which are all 5* Positives - there is a wonderful beach less than 5 mins walk from the hotel (used by guests form the other RIU hotels in the resort). - The entertainment was ok - enough to keep you entertained by the pool during the day and reasonable in the evening (although there was nothing on Saturday night, which was a bit lacklustre) Negatives: - The food is poor, there's plenty of choice sure, but it is virtually the same thing every day and there are very few labels on the items. - Our safe in the room was not working, we complained and they sent someone to fix it immediately, however when they could not fix it we were told the manager needs to look at this. after chasing this at least 4 times, we didn't get it fixed. the staff did however store our passports and some money in the hotel safe for us and did offer us a room change, but this was halfway though our holiday and didn't want to move. - There seemed to be a 50/50 split on how helpful/friendly the staff were. some meals we were offered drinks, some we where not. - The hotel does seem very tired and we found the cleanliness fairly poor, with dirty table cloths and the bedding and towels being stained. - There was also a lot of vomit around the lift area one morning. when we told reception, they said "yeah we're aware and we'll clean it", still not pleasant though. a word of warning the mosquitoes are plentiful here, although I'm not sure if that's the hotel or just the country, make sure you have plenty of repellent! overall this was an ok stay and I think the majority of the good times were from the country (eg, beaches, weather, excursions, etc) rather than the hotel
