    Outdated-ugly and poor- don’t stay here!

    This hotel needs some serious renovations. Traveled with a group of 8 friends, booked 4 rooms and our rooms were horrible. Outdated, extremely tacky Thanksgiving decor, mold in the bathtubs of all rooms! The fan didn’t work, nor the light in our bathroom, their towels are so stiff and hard you can cut yourself! The mattresses are gross, stained and yellow and the rooms had the ugliest views of like a junkyard. It did not feel like a vacation, I felt like I was a cheap motel- absolutely disgusting. Food was OK, but very limited variety and very scarce. They always ran out of Jamaican dishes- very disappointing. Pool was closed for two days during morning hours for cleaning- waste of our days- why clean during the mornings?!! Very slow boring music by the pool- bring your own speakers and play your own music. Entertainment is so unprepared, it’s like they have nothing planned and are winging it. Some shows were funny some were a mess. The staff”s uniforms are broken and they look really bad / poor- please give them new uniforms! They play the most boring games during morning pool hours- and then have no prizes for the guests. Such a lack of enthusiasm, lack of resources. Just boring and lazy environment. I will not be staying here ever again, needs tons of renovations and a whole new business revamp!

    Home away from Home

    Love going to Hotel Riu in Montego Bay. Staff remembers my name. Treated like family. Works out every detail. Always has my table ready for every meal. Jerk chicken on the beach is amazing. Besides a few mosquitos-lol, the steak dinner was excellent!!

    IN NEED OF IMPROVEMENT

    The lobby and pools are beautiful BUT the rooms and bars are very out dated. I will tell you both the pros and cons but i can honestly say I will not be coming back to this hotel or to Jamaica. The people are not nice or hospitable whatsoever. They will give bad service and still expect a tip. When you sit down at a restraunt they will come once to take your order unless it’s a buffet and give you water and will not come back to check up. They are rude about the way they say things and have terrible service. Not a smile and sometimes not even a greeting. Some of the younger staff at the restaurants were nice, the front desk and the the people who help you find tours were also kind and helpful. But the restaurant host at the steakhouse was extremely RUDE. It’s not what they say but how they say it. The liquor is extremely watered down and often times the drinks are served in basic plastic cups. The room was dirty and there was moss in my shower. They are not diverse whatsoever and only play reggae music so you will not get any other kinds of music while staying here. They do have a minibar in the room which is included which was very nice. I’m not saying the entire staff was bad but i can honestly say this was hands down the worse customer service I have ever received. Jamaica overall wasn’t a place with good service and hospitality and people would ask for tip which i found tasteless and rude and made me not want to give them anything. I even had people say they wanted more tip even when they did the most minimal thing. I don’t recommend this hotel or Jamaica overall.

    Hotel Riu Montego Bay

    As a 5 star hotel you would expect more. They state 3 a la carts restaurants but officially only 1 the steak house, they do amazing steaks but be there early like 18:10 as it gets busy. The little Italy restaurant is semi a la carte but worth it. The Asian restaurant is a Buffett nice but not worth the wait. This hotel is beautiful on a beach with clear waters that is always warm, entertainment staff put on a lovely show every evening and Damon is brilliant, however the hotel caters mostly to Americans so the staff are quite rude sometimes and in 2 weeks the entertainment staff haven’t spoken a word to us. The room well it’s standard the bed is a queen size bed but very uncomfortable expect a bad back and little to no sleep what so ever. Dining room service in the main restaurants well it’s poor really poor for the whole of breakfast we didn’t see a waiter or waitress we wasn’t offered coffee or anything. The room cleaners are amazing the room is always clean and tidy when we go back they are very polite, however their manager is quite rude to them, she disrespects them in front of you shouted and barking orders just no people skills really. Excursions are very expensive bought in the hotel if you source local companies they do them cheaper. The front desk staff are helpful due to the many times we have had to call them for our drinks to be restocked they say every 2 days but in 14 days they done it once we have had to call for the rest. The hotel has 2 pools. The pool bar is always busy and dirty it was closed early 1 day due to a lady vomiting in the pool. Overall our experience has been ok the jerk Hut on the beach definitely a must for lunch there are many good things about the hotel. But it’s definitely not a 5 star hotel. Would we visit Jamaica again yes. Would we come back to this hotel No

    Outdated Ugly Poor Resort

    I just wanted to express my disappointment in my recent stay at the Riu Montego Bay. My friends and I, a group of 8, recently stayed at this resort in May 2019. This resort disappointed in so many ways. Unfortunately, it did not feel like a vacation to us. The photos used on your website and all other travel websites are false advertisements of this resort. The rooms were so outdated, so were the facilities, restaurants, pools, bars. The pool was closed not once but 2 days due to cleaning. Why would they do this during daytime hours? The beach was full of seaweed and no personnel to help clean it up. The food was so limited and scarce. Every time we wanted some Jamaican food they ran out. The rooms were extremely outdated. The decoration was terrible! It looked like thanksgiving decoration. The views were the most ugliest views I have ever seen in my life. I faced an isolated fence with trash and trees thrown all over. Overall my experience at the RIU was terrible. I will not be staying at this chain ever again. It takes a lot of planning, saving to plan a group vacation and when the hotel doesn't deliver it makes it really hard to have a great time. I really hope the Riu Montego Bay gets the renovation it so badly needs, soon!
