Way too many cats
When we booked our trip it was not until I read the reviews ,that I was made aware of the problem with cars in the property. When I called I asked how many cats and was told there were many. I am terrified of cats and they were everywhere. At the pool, in the dining room ,on your balcony ,everywhere!! They were really bad at night and could be seen in trees !! I stopped eating in the open dining room because I knew they were roaming in them at night. Disgusting !!!!
Stayed from jan 11 to 16. Loved the staff especially the entertainment!! They are ALWAYS upbeat and checking to make sure you are having fun. We thought they were amazing!! Felt safe and secure the whole time. Loved the drinks but they needed a few extra shots. Seemed like maybe watered down a bit. Food is as expected for a large buffet, if your on a culinary tour you may be disappointed but we knew what to expect and enjoyed it. Jerk Chicken on the beach was AMAZING!! Can't wait to come back!
Great Family vacation
We stayed at the Riu Montego Bay 1/2-1/9/2020. From the time we arrived, we were greeted by our Trip Advisor from Fun Jet. We checked in quickly and were assisted to our rooms. Any problems we encountered, we called the front desk and it was handled very quickly. Our rooms were tidy. Very similar to other Riu properties we stayed at. Our fridge was stocked every other day with plenty of Red Stripe. The Buffet in the morning for breakfast was busy. Lots of visitors but it was always easy to get an omelet or other items of our liking. Jahmarie was amazing. He greeted us every morning with a smile on his face and made sure we had our table for 5 and hot coffee and milk and sugar for me. We loved the Jerk Chicken stand on the beach and frequented it 3 x during our stay. We ate at the Italian twice (the kids favorite), japonese and steak house. I would say the steak house was our least favorite only saying that cuz we come from an area where steak is great. Our service was slow that night and took along time from beginning to end. But our waiter was good and took great care of us. We loved the beach. The workers were always out early in the morning combing the beach and making it look great. There was always plenty of sun chairs. The entertainment crew was fabulous from am to night. Roly Poly, smallz and chocolate to name a few. We also enjoyed the pool bar and the "wow" guy was very entertaining. In the evening we liked the coconut bar and Cornell. He greeted us every evening and knew our favorite drinks. We've stayed at many Riu properties in Mexico, Dominican and Jamaica. I would agree with other reviews that this place could use a face lift but that did not affect our vacation whatsoever!. We will definitely return to Jamaica. Maybe Negril next time. The only negative I have is the "hard" beds.
Calm beach, clean, alcohol watered down, great employees
Any negative issues did not stop us from enjoying ourselves. We almost always stay at a RIU resort. We were greeted by Fiona at the front desk-very helpful and friendly! ROOM: The fridge in our room was empty, there were no glasses to drink from and for the first time, no coffee pot (maybe that is normal for this location). The bed cover was pooled onto the floor, like it was too big and upon further examination, the mattress had been compressed down in half. The mattress was hard as a rock (we like firm, but this was too much)it probably started out as an 8 + inch mattress and was down to a 3".. The room was clean and we were in building 2, close to everything. DRINKS: No matter how much we drank, we could not even get a slight buzz. We started ordering double shots and still nothing. The alcohol must be watered down. I understand they do not want drunks everywhere but we paid for all inclusive and expect full strength alcohol. Most adults are not going to get fall down drunk.Gabrielle at the pool bar always had a smile and was friendly. POOL: pool was clean. People were not allowed to hold seats and there wasn't an employee wanting tipped to hold you a seat for the next day-this was refreshing and appreciated. FOOD: Bland but I get that they have to keep the flavors so everyone likes it We ate at the Asian restaurant-it is buffet and really no different than what is in the main dining room. The steak house was not open a couple of nights-looked to be a private group in there-the entrances were blocked off with chairs, so I can't say anything about it.The Italian was also buffet and always had a line. International night at the main dining room-there was rice with mussels that was very good!! Highly recommend it! JERK CHICKEN ON BEACH-fantastic! Put the brown sauce on it-yummy!! Favorite place to eat. Open 12-3 daily. EMPLOYEES: Always friendly except the ones in the lobby gift shop (closet to check in)-no smiles, no acknowledgement, nothing.ENTERTAINMENT: Roly Poly and Chocolate were funny and remembered our names all week. GROUNDS-clean! BEACH-curls in front of the buildings. It is small but that is because of all of the water sports and boats and volleyball court on the beach. Very calm water-no waves-more like a lake with gentle lapping. Sandals has bungalows over the water in front of this beach. RETURN? Probably not. Did not live up to expectations that we have experienced at other RIU resorts. Disappointed about the alcohol-I should not be able to have 10-15 drinks and not feel it. Normally I get a buzz on 2!
Great place for vacation
It has a nice pool and entertainment. The buffet is also great. I am vegetarian and I prefer it if they have some east Indian dishes in the buffet. The beach is not that great as it has lot of seaweed and the view of the water is blocked by the Sandal resort. Also, I found a drainage line opening close to the beach,
