    Beautiful Views

The hotel grounds were narrow. Lots of walking. The air conditioning didn't work properly. Otherwise was a great hotel. I have no other complaints, it was very amazing experience overall. The servers were friendly too.

    Another great stay

Stayed here on March 4-10, 2019 in a group of 10 adults. We stayed here before and it was some of our groups first time in wonderful Mexico. Everyone loved it. Beds were upgraded from our last stay.Food was great; even for the vegan in our group. She found lots to eat on the massive buffets. Thanks for the bowls of nuts; she really appreciated those. Another in our group has some issues with Khrons and she had no issues with food. The only issues my wife & I & the rest of our group had was there was too much of it! So many choices. I thought the resort tried their best to vary the main food items. The greens & fruits sections were great. The resort was packed & sometimes the staff, to the best of their efforts, could not keep up to the demand at the buffets. ALL the staff was fantastic! Never had one bad experience with a one. Some remembered us from our last visit. The RIU Vallarta next day will be closed for renos this winter so the Jalisco will be full this winter. One bad thing was it was very noisy when the people were leaving the disco at 1am & heading back to their rooms, but that is just ignorant, drunk people. The resort should close the disco; not that many people use it & it would be quieter. I didn't see a lot of people tipping. This really ticks me off. If you can afford a vacation like this, be a decent person & leave a tip. The staff in our resort work extremely hard & they really need the tips. Almost everyone in our group left a 20 peso note (about$1.40Cdn) per person for the maid in your room, same for each meal and 2 out 3 bar visits. That works out to about $10 Cdn a day. I would recommend this resort. Just don't expect it to be the Four Seasons or the Hyatt. Its a decent resort in paradise.

Updated hotel, pleasant stay! Nice room

Booked a Junior Suite, so happy that we did! We felt like on a vacation with the space we had.. Beautiful facility and remodel! Food was good, go early to buffet to beat crowd and get best selections of food. Italian and Asian restaurants were great! The drinks were ok... Pool area very clean, and beaches were beautiful. Staff friendly all around! I downloaded Google translator to communicate with those who did not speak English.Took a taxi to the Malecon for shopping and street food. Canopy Rivers Tours excursions is SO GREAT AND WORTH THE PRICE! Get to pool early to get a chair. Music and Michael Jackson show was awesome. Things for kids to do too. Overall we were very pleased and would come back.

Would not go back...believe the bad reviews.

For a little background, we are seasoned travelers. We have been to this area of Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) 6 times prior to staying at this resort. We love Puerto Vallarta but wanted to try a different location for a change. We are not picky people and have stayed many places but this is one of the worst. The thing saving my rating is the good service we received from the bartenders and the beach. Check In: We arrived at 12:30 pm on a Sunday. I knew check-in was not until 3pm so I was not expecting our room to be ready. (and it wasn't ready until after 4pm). As we pulled up to the resort, it was complete MASS CHAOS. Two huge buses arrived ahead of us and there was a massive line to check in. On a hot day, this was not at all welcoming. No one greeted us, no welcome drink, no cold towel. The process to just get our wrist bands was over an hour in the hot, purple lobby. Food: The food here is very mediocre and repetitive. We didn't get sick so I guess there's that....but everything was bland and not much change throughout the week. Get up early for breakfast if you don't want to have huge lines and chaotic people every where. IF you go after 9am, be prepared. Nobody gets you a drink, nobody finds you a table, and there are people everywhere. The same with dinner - go early (6:30) and you will have better luck with service and actually getting food. Very average to poor all-inclusive food. Room: We had emailed the resort prior to our arrival and had requested a particular room set-up. We had booked a family room and the bunk bed with a king bed would have been a WAY better scenario for our family. My husband and kids are tall people and do not fit well in double beds. Our request was not met so we ended up with 3 beds - - two doubles and a twin. This is just weird as I had to sleep with my son the whole week. The bathroom layout is awful for a family too - no privacy when getting into the shower. We couldn't get the aircon in our room below 26c (78f) - it was hot and muggy all week. The patio railing was very loose - - and uninviting with plastic chairs you'd find at Walmart. We had a horrible smell coming from our room fridge. BUT I will say the maids did a good job cleaning and I tipped them daily. They do not restock the fridge daily so getting water was a chore throughout the week. I've never been to a resort that didn't offer bottled water at the bars, restaurants. Sleep/Noise - - if you are an early riser and go to bed early, do not stay here. The loudness of the shows and the other guests will keep you up until well after midnight. The resort area echos very loudly and although I wasn't near the stage, it felt like I was right above it. Drinks/Bars: There is no drink service at the pool or on the beach. So you had to get up and get your own. No big deal as some places do not offer that. HOWEVER - - hard to get a drink at the pool/beach bar when the pool is complete CHAOS and people do not leave the swim up bar area. The lines to get a drink were massive and the drinks were not good at the pool bar. This meant that we had to go to where lunch is served at the beach to get a good drink. The issue here is that you have to be completely DRY to walk into this area or you will get yelled at. So you had to really plan on when to get out of the water to be dry enough to get a drink. The bartenders there were great though and make really good drinks - I kept tipping accordingly. We also had great drinks at the lobby bar. Pools: DIRTY, crowded and just not big enough for 700 rooms - - I've been to smaller resorts that have had bigger, better pools. We come for the beach though and don't mind hanging out there. BUT there were two days that we couldn't even get into the ocean as there were black flags up. Beach: This is a lovely beach - - we had fun playing in the waves and the sand is generally soft. I would stay in this area again for the beach BUT NOT HERE! Use of the RIU VALLARTA: Sad to say but we checked this one out too as we were able to go there as well. We did not stay long. Buffet was crazy and the trash cans on the beach smelled awful. I couldn't stay there. Other guests: Now this is what I determine is one of the reasons this place sucks. We met a few nice people here but outside of that, the other guests were awful. I guess when you stay at a 3.5 star place, this is what you get. They were dirty, rude and obnoxious. Constantly yelling in the hallways at all times of the night, I witnessed people throwing food and plates in the hallways, I saw people let their kids run amok all over the resort. Witnessed boys spitting on the walkways. Witnessed a boy reusing the same ice cream cone to add more ice cream (gross). Constant selfie taking from EVERYONE here and always in the walk ways.... I think the staff tries but honestly with these types of clientele, it's hard to keep up. Have some class, be respectful - - I don't think this is too much to ask?
