Been here since November 15th and are here for 10 days with Sunwing. We are a family of 5 and we are absolutely loving this place. Food is amazing, shows are spectacular (White Night & Latin show so far). The pool is great, the kids love the slides. The staff are great and keep the room and washrooms clean. An awesome resort. Would highly recommend to anyone.
WORST TRIP EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
When we first got there we had to wait to check in (which is fine) but had to leave ALL our belongings in the lobby for anyone to take for 3 hours they wouldn’t put anything in a back room. Laptops , iPads etc. We walked the resort to find construction everywhere (which was not advertised when I booked through Sunwing) , there were people sawing tree stumps, drilling something in the lobby, construction on a kiddy pool for everyone to hear as it’s not a big resort. My boyfriend works construction and it was the last thing we wanted to hear being on a vacation. That was the first thing. We then got our room and no one told us where to go, we walked around with our bags for 30 minutes to find it and once it was found the electricity wasn’t working. Went all the way back to the lobby to be told for the first time we had to insert a key card for the Electricity to work. Secondly our room yoh cannot control the ac. It was set at 23!!! That’s how hot my summer is in Canada So they sent a bell boy to send an apology bottle of tequila and this is where things get out of hand. He knocked on the door as I was changing and I yelled one second, don’t come in. He knocked again and just opened the door!!! I had to stop the door from opening and he just held it part way open while I put my top on. I took the bottle and he left and I filed a complaint. To top it off our room was right next to the night club... SO NOISY we couldn’t even sleep. Every time we tried to speak to Sunwing we were told to speak to the hotel. But the hotel kept saying we had to speak to Sunwing. Nothing was being done. Also this resort was advertised at 4.5 star but the riu website shows 3.5 star. I would’ve never booked at all if I knew that because all the food was horrible. Another huge concern is that we were not allowed to speak to a manager. A MANAGER. We spoke to “personal relations” who refused to let us speak to Jalisco or Palice management about compensation. He told us to give him a couple hours to see about discount and when we came back he went home for the day. We are outraged at this point and just wanted to get out. So we told front desk to book us the room for the next day so we wouldn’t loose it and would discuss discount t with the palace or the guy who left us hanging. Nothing from anyone. We left for an excursion the next day that we booked for “6 hours”. We were gone for 8.5!!!! With no food provided. Just tortilla chips ... so we finally get to the palace( mind you in the morning when we checked out of Jalisco they made us even pay our taxi), they asked how much we were to pay and we said we didn’t know cause the manager never told us. I asked to speak to a manager AGAIN when they told us the going rate was even higher than the original the day before. They wouldn’t let me speak to a manager again and just made me talk to front desk at Jalisco on the phone where the lady continued to threaten me by saying don’t do this to my cooworker I will cancel your room right now and you won’t be able to stay there and I said I didn’t appreciate being threatened and just started crying as she continued to not listen to me to ask for a manager and threaten me. So we just paid the OVERPRICED amount and went to our rooms where I cried in frustration and went to eat and then bed It was a great experience with the palace and we received a “cocktail book” as An apology which is absurd. But we then had a mini fridge for 2 days that didn't work that they keep saying will get colder and it wouldn't. We are so upset with the customer service and experience and the outrageous amount of money we had to pay to upgrade. Upon contacting sunwing again when we arrived back, they simply told me that they contacted the Jalisco and the staff there said there was NO construction... basically implying that we lied! There was someone drilling, and chainsawing a tree and the kiddy pool was under construction, as bob cats were being used ON SITE while we were walking to the pool. I cannot BELIEVE the customer service we have received. Aside from touching on the fact that we apparently LIED about the construction, not a single one of my other points were touched on. 1.Not a 4.5 star as advertised 2.Food was GARBAGE 3.BELL BOY WALKED INTO MY ROOM WHILE I WAS CHANGING 4.They would not let me speak to management at ALL (the manager was NEVER there, even though we saw them walking around with their walkie talkies all the time....) this was so they would not get in trouble for not being able to handle the situation themselves 5.The excursion was RIDICULOUSLY longer than advertised with NO MEAL at all 6.Palace upgrade was even OVER the price we were originally told before we moved and they wouldn't pay our taxi 7.No travel vouchers or anything was offered to us as an apology, just a COCKTAIL book.... NONE of these were touched on. Just the "construction" wasn't there right ...
What a fantastic place to stay the staff from recp to cleaners are all great . The waiters are great look after morning noon night . The hotel great plenty to do fro pools to beach . Lots of restaurant to choose from and good food
Amazing stay with great amenities and staff
We spent a week at the Riu Jalisco and from start to finish it was a perfect stay. The staff were very helpful and quick to make sure we were taken care of and had no problems. And if we did have problems they were quick to remedy the situation. We travelled here with Sunwing and the staff from sunwing, Jorge and Valentina were very helpful and knowledgeable. We did the pub crawl tour with Jorge and it was much better than expected and would definitely recommend to check it out. The food at the resort was fresh and very good, buffets were always full With lots of options. Will definitely stay here again and will look at other Rius when travelling to other destinations!
Good choice for kids and large families
We chose this resort as we had heard about the Kids Club and it did not disappoint us on that score so thanks to all who entertain and supervise kids from all over. A couple staff members were outstanding in their interactions, particularly Susy in La Botana (lunchtime) who brought us a special dessert with the message "good trip" in Polish on our last day. We had talked about me being one of the few Polish people at the resort a few days previous. Impressive initiative. We were also impressed with Alonso in the Buffet on the dinner shift. The man is a perpetual motion machine and a great sport. Todo controlado, amigo! This portion of the review isn't so much about the resort as it is about the customers. DO YOU THROW GARBAGE ON YOUR OWN FLOOR AT HOME, PEOPLE? Honestly, the disregard for the environment and for other visitors was unbelievable. We spoke with Hugo who works Securidad on the beach and he could only shake his head at the behaviour of some/many visitors who left everything -- including dirty Pampers -- on the sand and on the chairs. Riu management could help by providing more than 3 garbage cans for hundreds of people (on the beach) and some ashtrays. It's not surprising that when there aren't any ashtrays people will simply put their butts in the sand. Not brain surgery to grab an empty cup, fill it with sand and make your own ashtray but apparently when folks are on holidays they feel entitled to be oblivious. Same goes for the way some people treat staff at the resort. The message seems to be: I paid to be here, you work for me, now pick up my trash. No. Just no. Bottom line, this is a reasonably priced resort which caters to families and kids. As a result it's probably noisier and messier than others in the Riu family. I would not go back if I wasn't bringing kids but definitely recommend it if you have kids under 12 as there's lots for them to do including participating in each evening's pre-show in the Amphiteatre. Be aware there is only one bank of elevators from the lobby to the floors and if you have a room closer to the beach end of either wing, you'll be taking the stairs or walking quite a long way to and from your room.
