A bit far from things but overall a GREAT resort
Riu Jalisco is a family resort certainly lives up to the great reviews. The rooms & overall resort area are well kept and clean! The restaurants and buffet are all pretty decent and the fridge is well stocked w/ bottled water, pepsi, tonic water and whatnot. Reservations at the restaurants are no longer available and it’s first come, first served. No complaints about the room….King bed is quite firm but liveable. Good water pressure, lots of hot water. The ocean’s pretty much what I expected. Cleaned up daily I think and there’s a flag at the beach (green flag = ok to swim). I’ve heard in the RAINY season that alligators (or crocodiles) may migrate to the ocean if their rivers are too swollen with water. However, they almost never come onto the beach (what I was told anyways). If you walk right (ocean facing) for about an hour you’ll come to a small neighbourhood area. Then there’s the shopping across the highway. It was not recommended to walk as you have to walk along the highway. On my private transport to the resort it was pretty chaotic, fast driving, pretty random rules of the road. Tailgating at 100 kph….. I would not be that ok renting a car or worse a motorcycle here. Cab or uber to shopping should not be that expensive. A few tips: 1. For tips you can bring $1USD bills each drink and tip $3-$5 CAD/USD per day for cleaning and restocking of your room. Alternatively a 20-30 peso tip is fine for multiple tips (if you’re getting a lot of free drinks from the bar). 2. You can ask when you tip for change if you only have larger pesos. 3. If you don’t like walking long distances to & from your room try to get a room close to the elevators. YES this resort is that big. 4. Concerts appear to be on Fridays and Sundays so expect it to be noisy at night almost to 11 PM (especially if your room is closer to the stage area). 5. Uber is a bit more cheaper than cabs and ask your bellboy to verify UBER can come directly to the front area for pick up. 6. Bellboys will order you a cab and CONFIRM w/ you what price you should pay in cash. Old saying is always confirm cash fare w/your cabbie prior to starting. 7. I could not get my safe to accept any code so had to make an appointment for someone to come to my room on day 2 to sort it out. Apparently there are 3 RIU’s all grouped together and I think I’m allowed to go to one of them w/ my wristband. One RIU here is adults only. This resort is about 30-40 minutes from the airport and you pretty much have to cab it or uber to explore (each time costing perhaps $20 CAD each way). If WALKABILITY ranks higher on your list for resorts I’d find another place (though this place is fine).

Still a good resort
This Riu resort is showing its age but still a very good resort spent 7 days with family of 6 only issues were getting rooms arrived early but once we got our rooms everything went smoothly for the week food was very good in the buffet and the Italian and asian restaurants the steak house was very disappointing super slow service cold meals and poor quality of meats other than that we had no complaints about the service ,pools ,ocean beach were perfect .Resort to be renovated next August 2025 to Dec . we would return to this resort and to The Riu Vallarta anytime in the future and returning the Palace in Feb

Great resort with decent value
Stayed multiple times now with family (kids of varying ages). Something here for everyone. Good food, decent entertainment, great location. Only complaint was in the room. Beds, not so great for my taste anyway. Hard as a rock. And no door to the bathroom area. Door to the watercloset only, makes for privacy when changing challenging at times but there are ways around it I suppose. But truly a really decent hotel and nothing to stop us from returning!

Rio Resort Jalisco
Hotel was nice but out dated. Our rooms were far from the elevator. Wish there was another elevator on the far side. Food was good. Should have more options available for breakfast. At 9:00 am long lineup for buffet.Only 2 pools and crowded with children. Should have a space for adults only. Two thumbs up to women cleaning bathroom between ocean and pool. Always clean.
