This was our second visit to this resort. I will definitely return for the right price. The resort overall is nice and the food is good. There are a few things i would change, for instance the system of going to the specialty restaurants stinks! But the resort is big and well kept and the food is good. We had fun!

Average HTL, I would say with a lower standards if I compare with other RUI resorts I was staying at. Mostly friendly staff. Staff in restaurants too busy to serve you because they need to clean tables. Food selection is ok during the week but they are running out of food and clean tables during weekends when they are having lots of locals. La Carter Restaurants are ok, but the fact that you can't reserve them changes the whole experience. You have to be near restaurant at least 30 min before opening to make to the first round. Management needs really look into this and make changes! Major concern is the pool area. Water is foggy in the pool, we didn't even try it! People drink cocktails and spill them everywhere but area never gets cleaned therefore lots of flies everywhere. Lounge chairs are dirty near the pool and on the beach. There is no entertainment during the day near the pool even though you can see quite a few employees hanging around the pool and doing nothing. Excursions are very expensive, and far from the property. Be prepared to be on the bus 1.5-2 hours each way.
Not your regular Riu with very low standards
I don't usually write reviews about all-inclusive hotels because you pretty much get what you pay for and all-inclusive means you obviously won't get the highest quality ever. I have been to many Riu's in other Caribbean countries and I always chose this chain because of the higher standards for service, food, etc. However, this one is nothing like others. PROS: -hotel is located not too far from the airport -very clean and pleasant ocean and beach -lush greenery and well-maintained gardens -lots of wildlife -drinks are ok for an all-incl. -attentive and quick service at the bar lounge CONS: First few days hotel was approximately half full so service and food were both great. The situation completely went downhill closer to the weekend when hundreds of locals started to come for the weekend. Examples: -first few nights the food in the buffet was tasty with good variety of grilled meats and fish but starting from Thursday food quality started to detiriorate to the point where on Sunday there were half-empty stands made of mixed leftovers from previous nights (yuk!) with no meat or fish whatsoever; lunch was pretty disgusting, left hungry for the day which never ever happens in an all-incl. -hordes of locals in the dining room with 20 minutes line up for food stations -no waiter service since they were all occupied cleaning the tables -hard to find a clean and empty table -no champagne at all, even the cheapest one -hard as rock beds and uncomfy pillows, bring your own is a good idea -cleaning in room is ok but never enough towels, only a set for one -very high prices for excursions and activities outside of the resort, even if you buy from locals on the beach still kind of expensive for a country where 1 USD costs 600! colonials (local currency) -too many vendors on the beach (since its public) that come by every 5 minutes -very dirty lounge chairs on the beach covered with bird's poop and dirt, never get cleaned -no entertainment or activities during the day, barely saw the entertainment team which is really strange -nowhere to walk and nothing to do in the evening, especially if it rains it gets really boring -night entertainment is pretty weak, no theme parties that Riu does in other countries Funny thing is that they were giving out surveys to fill out on a Tuesday while the quality of food and service were still ok; how smart of them. Overall it seems like this hotel caters to many locals for a fraction of price that we tourist pay and thats how they make money by filling the hotel to the max and cutting down on costs and level of quality. I guess it would be much better to stay elsewhere in a non-all-incl. hotel and explore the country on your own
Returned to this hotel for a third time and again it did not disappoint. Room was a sea view on the 3rd floor - kept really clean especially loved the shapes made by house keeping with the bed clothes. Seen some reviews about pillow size - yes they are not a standard size but are adequate - unless of course you have a really big head!! I had to raise 2 issues with reception (hairdryer and door lock) both were fixed within half an hour - great service. The grounds are kept really well by the hardworking gardeners - even in the torrential rain. Food is plentiful and really good quality and the service at all the bars was excellent, a smile goes a long way and I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be served even when they were really busy. Special shout out to Angela behind the bar and the ladies who waited on everyone in the Filadelphia bar and lobby areas - great at remembering your drinks. The hotel is really busy at weekends but there are enough sun beds for all, and it also gave the hotel a great atmosphere. One point to note - there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms however would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to everyone and hopefully looking to come back in a few years.
Great stay, would happily go back!
Me and my partner stayed here for 2 weeks all inclusive, and had a fantastic time. While there are certain aspects that you would expect from an All Inclusive resort, such as buffets and a small variety of beers etc, we really couldn't fault much at the hotel.(We never found drink selection a problem, plenty of cocktails to choose from!!!). We read a number of reviews stating that it was really difficult to get into the restaurants due to bookings, but we didn't find this at all, in fact we had been to all restaurants at the hotel in the first week! Some do get busy and sometimes give you a buzzer to let you know when a table is ready (off to the bar!). The busiest is the (very good) steak restaurant and you have to queue before it opens to get a table, which we did a few times. The Asian and Italian restaurants as well as the Tucan were all good too, with very good staff. There is a huge selection and variety of food at the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets also. The pool was also excellent and very relaxing, although the pool bar area was always rammed with people, so we avoided. The hotel does get significantly busier at the weekends, with many locals and Americans making use of the hotel, but this was not a problem. If you decide you want to get out of the hotel for a bit, there are lots of excursions available and an animal sanctuary up the road. The rooms were very big, clean and well serviced. The location of the hotel is next to the beach, which is beautiful, Would love to go back one day! Traveled October 2017
