    Very nice amenities

Beautiful, clean and friendly place. Food is delicious and you won’t go hungry even if you’re a picky eater. I didn’t like their “dinner reservation” policy as you have to wait in line at least 1 hour before your desired time. Then there were empty tables as people didn’t show up for their reservations while other guests outside wanted to dine. Not customer friendly. ScubaCaribe was an amazing additional service! We got our basic scuba certificates with Juan Carlos and it was one of the best highlights of our trip!

We decided on Costa Rica as we are both huge animal lovers but nothing could preper us for what was in store. The entrance to the hotel is just amazing. Check in was fast, we was given room 3018 jungle facing. Waking up to the monkeys every morning and watching the humming birds was such a treat. The hotel is spotless.. Staff work around the clock and they really cant do enough for you. The food was great very rarely saw the same food twice. We got engaged at the riu guanacaste and have booked our wedding here for may 2nd 2020.. We cant wait to return for our special day. Pura Veda riu guanacaste.. You all do a brilliant job. See you soon.

    3 day stay

The location was superb. The hotel was gorgeous! The service generally was very good. The facility and surrounding areas were excellent! The shops were wonderful! The service from the various restaurants, bars and pool area was excellent! Great entertainment at the pool daily as well as the various shows, they were wonderful, recommend them! The disco needs to improve on the music and they charge for drinks, ouch! Not appealing! Noe the room was generally very nice, though not well maintained. Several rings to the shower curtain were missing and during my stay never replaced. The shower tub is VERY slippery and dangerous to fall. Luggage to the room after arrival took long to receive even after 2 calls.

A nice hotel in a nice location

The rooms were clean and well maintained, the buffet food is very repetitive, the staff are very friendly the poolside area is not the cleanest, the pool was cleaned every morning but I never saw anybody move the sun beds hence there is a lot of dirt and black sand poolside. The spa was very good, my wife enjoyed a lovely massage and she said it was one of the best she has had. The wildlife around the hotel is amazing. The beach is not the best as there are lots of small stones as you go into the water but it is much better in front of the Riu Palce. I would return as overall the hotel was very good but the mosquitos have quite and appetite so take a good insecticide spray and plenty of it along with your sunblock, prices for both in the on site shops are very expensive, $50 for a bottle of suntan lotion isa bit steep., if you want trips book them through Heiner of Alex on the beach , great value for money and excellent quality.

    Beautiful location

Just returned from 7 beautiful days at RIU Guanacaste Costa Rica with my daughter. We usually stay at an adults only resort but this was a last minute trip and we loved the location. The check in was very quick and efficient. Thank you Sunwing for being so organized. We got a garden view room which was lovely. Yes the rooms are a little dated and we had a few issues on arrival but we are only in the room to sleep and shower so it was fine, and minor issues with the room were looked after immediately. The room was cleaned daily and we want to thank Gabriela Castillo for her lovely decorations and towel animals each day, it was very sweet. The food was okay and mostly buffet. We didn't mind standing in line with a drink at 5:45pm with other guests waiting for the a la carte restaurants and we were seated right away. The seafood restaurant was awful and we left hungry. We mostly ate at the Italian and Asian restaurant even though the Asian restaurant is actually buffet but the sushi was delicious. We had read from other reviews that the resort fills up with local customers on the weekends so we had planned all our excursions on those days. From Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon the resort is a zoo and it was difficult to find a table anywhere to eat for breakfast or lunch. The staff in the a la carte restaurants are good but the buffet staff are terrible and most looked like they hated their jobs. We are generous tippers but that didn't seem to make any difference even though we noticed that very few people tipped. The beach is dark sand so after 10am its too hot to walk on in bare feet. We wore flipflops but next time would bring water shoes. The surf is rough and there are signs posted cautioning you about the strong rip tides so we didn't swim, but the pool area is very large with a swim up bar. The beach walks are beautiful and you can't go to the RIU without visiting the Monkey Bar a 5 minute walk down the beach. There are also a few local vendors along the beach selling souvenirs at a much better price than in Coco Beach, and don't pass up the beach massage from Yolanda and Deyris. For $35.00 U.S. I got the most amazing massage. They have recently added a water park that is located between the Guanacaste and the Palace and it was fun to spend an afternoon going down all the slides. All in all it was a great vacation for the price and I would definitely return.
