beautiful location but poor management
I was hurt badly while at hotel. Chair in restaurant collapsed, concussion, whiplash and medal rod in chair punctured my thigh. They called a Dr. only when told to do so. They offered me $200 for my troubles in an email which I rejected. Neck still hurts months later. I have mailed registered letter to head office in Spain and they will not respond.
Not all it is cracked up to be
My cousin and I stayed here for a week over New Years. It is very far from most everything and if you want to experience Mazatlan, you need to take a cab (or pulmonia) to just about anywhere. We took one tour offered, but it was disappointing as you spend 45 minutes in a jewellery store, then walk about 10 minutes to a restaurant for a so-so lunch. Cheaper to hire a pulmonia, (open-air cab), who will take you to see the highlights or whatever you request. Some restaurants require reservations, but end up being buffets except for the main course. The main buffet was very disappointing and cleanliness did not seem to be a priority. For example, we had waiters bringing our drinks with their fingers wrapped around the edges, saw a cook put burgers on the grill then put the buns on, without gloves or washing in between. Food was often cold. The room was comfortable, although the fridge was only stocked twice. The entertainment was very amateur, even on New Year's, when it seemed they let the public in!
Customer service is good , however !
Visited here from California and were excited to be here. But the food was terrible rooms out of date , to get a reservation for one of the restaurants you have to be in line by 6:45 am! The worst is the rooms , our blankets had holes in them , pillows/mattresses are also really low quality. Make sure to bring your own shampoo/lotion, it is not provided. We complained about where our room was located because construction workers kept peeping into the room it was very uncomfortable! They said they could change our room the next day, I said no problem. The next day I turned in my old room keys at 8:00 am, figured by 1:00pm my new room would be ready. Nope! Other guests who were just arriving , had their rooms ready to go. I would think they would let housekeeping know we were waiting. I had to wait until regular checkin hour for a room. The food is stale , over cooked , and gets the restaurants are super crowded. For the price I paid I figured it would be better. I must also add the plumbing is pretty bad. The bathroom by the pool smells like human waste. Even after it has just be cleaned. Also it’s so hard to flush the toilets, it’s one button that’s super hard to push in. My 10 year old niece couldn’t flush it. Definitely would not be staying here again! Don’t let the lobby and pool area fool you!
Riu luxury at its Finest
Visited this resort during Christmas time with family and friends (9 of us) which we usually try to avoid since it is super busy but we had a great time. First of all, staff and entertainment crew were extremely nice and friendly and tried their best to really connect with the tourists to try and make their trip the best they could. The sunsets were absolutely to die for as all the rooms has an ocean view!! The food was up to Riu standards and had absolutely no issue with it, the weather was awesome, the house cleaning staff was very good and friendly as well. However, if you are looking to party inside the resort this is not the resort for you, the disco was very poor and not the type of party scene you would expect, a few friends who went to town to part said it was A LOT better. The only reason I am giving this resort 4 stars instead of 5 is because the resort was very old and could definitely use some upgrades in the rooms to modernize and face lift the resort. The rooms were a little out of date for typically Riu resorts as this is my 5th different Riu I’ve been to and the restaurants looked very old as well. Other than that it was a great time as I would highly recommend!
Fun in the sun
The resort was nice. Plenty of pool space. The buffet was good. The food was very tasty however I wish they would have changed up the selection. Someone from my party had brownish water coming out of their sink. The front desk handled the situation poorly. They did not change their room and they just basically said deal with it.
