RIU never disappoints
We had a great time here in January 2019 and it was out first time to this part of Mexico. The food was so good and lots of variety and overall I felt like it was more authentic then the food we got in Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. The beach was clean and lots of waves for playing but not too crazy that it was dangerous. The only downside of the beach is there are sooo many locals trying to sell you something so it gets kind of annoying. I did buy a few things and then when they see you buy something, a whole bunch flock to you lol The hotel staff were always wonderful and even helped me when I accidentally left my phone at the front desk. Some of the nightly entertainment was boring, but the beach party they had one night was amazing and the disco was good so thay kept us entertained. Overall I would recommend it if you are looking for a something a little different than the Cancun vibe. Also, I know a lot of the reviews talk about the construction but honestly it didn't bother us at all. I think the only bummer was that the swim up pool was closed for the duration of our stay which I am used to having at all inclusive but it didn't bother us and I understand.
We were lied regarding kids pool and service is terrible, cleaning service is disgusting.
One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was the kids pool, when I made the reservation they did not mention the fact the entire hotel was under construction, which is pretty common on any hotel, but few days before going on vacations I found a review of somebody saying that the kids pool was not available due to the construction, I already had the reservation so it's not like I was going to cancel but I called the hotel just to make sure the pool was going to be available, I specifically asked the girl at the front desk for the kids pool, not family pool, not hotel pool, KIDS pool and she said the construction did not affect, whatsoever ANY pool. You can imagine my face the day I found out the truth when I asked some bodyguard and he said, and I quote "Well, that one is not available because they are making it bigger, better and more awesome". Why would I care if its like Disneyland, if I am here NOW. Being lied was so disappointing. 2. When they clean your room they can put the trash can from the bathroom in the room which will make it smell like pee the entire time, it was so disgusting! Why would you have same bins so they can be confused. Both bins smelled like they were already used in the bathroom and they do not put any plastic bags, eww eww eww. 3. Mini bar is never refilled even though they say it should be. We stayed 4 days, 3 nights. 4. They have a huge sign stating that check-in is at 3 but of course room is not available until 4 and even though they ask for your email to notify you, they never do, you have to keep asking for it. Other hotels will be glad to receive new customers. And of course they stalk you at 10:40 so you don't forget to check-out. I am NEVER staying here and will make sure to warn anybody not to waste any money.
Gone down hill big time.
Went to Riu emerald bay about 4 years ago and loved it big time, so much so I convinced my friends for us to go there in vacation. Big mistake, we found out a day before we left that it was under construction and not from the hotel or sunwing. I called sunwing right away and asked for 2 rooms at the other side of the hotel, instead we had a total view of the construction. We were there for 2 weeks on the second week people were saying all the great deals they got because of the construction, we had received nothing so we contacted sunwing, their response is that Riu is saying we weren’t near any construction. Between sunwing and Riu they won’t respond to our emails all we asked for was a credit toward a next vaca. I’m a huge Riu customer but not anymore so disappointed in both companies. These are pictures of no construction
Best Mazatlan Vacation Ever
We travel to Mazatlan once a year, we usually stay at another hotel, but decided to try the Emerald Bay. Beautiful hotel, friendliest staff and the food was spectacular. Our room was gorgeous, and they helped celebrate my 60th birthday with a decorated room, nice surprise
RIU... there is always some Good, Bad and Ugly
Our stay was the week leading up to Easter weekend. Which I will definitely avoid in the future. The Good: All rooms have an ocean view. The beach was clean and had plenty of beach and pool chairs. (Until midweek when the locals arrived for the Easter holiday). The large lobby was bright, clean and inviting. The room was a comfortable size with a king bed, bright white sheets, 3 (?) pillows, (why not 4) and generally clean. Bar fridge with beverages. Large closet area with a safe to store valuables. Bathroom was large and roomy. Numerous large pools to pick from on the property. Best feature was the ocean view balcony (with every room). Food was nothing special but we found it to be fresh and hot food was not cold. Last but not least.... the staff were friendly. The Bad: The bed was firm... but you may prefer that. Like most all-inclusive you get tired of the same food, day after day. The elevators were small and frustratingly slow. Hotel rules ask that people not reserve beach/pool chairs but there were so many chairs with personal items left on them by 7 am that it was a challenge to find chairs (in a sun or shade) around 8:30. Many of those chairs sat empty for hours. Therefore... you are forced to play the same game if you want a specific spot. I would estimate that about 1/3 of the beach front property is fenced off due to construction. The area looks like it includes another pool and a children's poool/play area. Also the construction of a new short tower (guest rooms?). It was a little noisy at times but you can sit on the beach if you find it annoying. (Good thing is the construction has to end at some point). They are not overly generous with the bottled water. Or fridge had one 1.5 litre bottle and two smaller personal bottles. (There is more beer then water) 🙄 They only refill it every second day. Listening to many other travellers complain about the lack of response to their request for more water we walked to a local store and bought 2 extra 1.5 litre bottles in case we needed them. ((Which we did). Day 2, I left a tip in the fridge and they doubled our water supply. I repeated the tip 2 days later... no extra water! Day 6 I gave up... thank heavens we had the water we purchased in the closet. Room water is NOT drinkable. There is a sign on the bathroom wall. So why are they so chintzy?? The ugly... I could see the condition of the box springs... not good. I was afraid to look under the the mattress cover so I didn’t. The tub/shower is hazardous and awkward to get in and out of, even using the handicap bars. My biggest complaint is the black mold! First of all... the shower curtain is washable so why not wash it after each guest? It would certainly help fight the black mold growth. I know the humidity is a huge factor but black mold on the grout and sealant around the tub is treatable. I also refuse to use the glasses that are provided in the room because they are not wrapped and sit upside down on the counters. YUCK!! Will I go back? Overall we enjoyed our stay but we’ll try another resort if we ever return to Mazatlan.
