Gross hotel with the illusion of being nice
I will say that upon arriving I was very pleased with how the hotel looked. It was beautiful at first impression and I was excited to stay. This quickly changed. The rooms are gross and do not provide amenities that are needed, except a cheap soap dispenser with watered down soap. Tge towels remain dirty. I took my towel down to the pool and noticed there was crusty snot stains all over it. Got a new one and there was a yellow stain all over it. Not sure what it was. The food was okay.i enjoyed the Japanese restaurant and dinner buffet, but the Italian restaurant was terrible and cheap. Ate breakfast and my eggs had bones in them... MY EGGS! The drinks were okay. I liked the espresso martini but otherwise the liquor was cheap crap. The pool was disgusting and dirty. The pool with the bar had a gross film all over it. I wouldnt recommend this hotel at all. It only gets 2 stars for the minor positives. And the employees are extremely rude people that just bother you to buy things. They also ask for tips. Like sorry, I owe no tip as I paid 1400$ for this trip and the tip is extra, if I want to. Dont worry I definitely tipped and was planning to regardless, but an employee asking for it is desparate and makes your guests uncomfortable because it is so forceful.
Upon arrival we was given drinks tropical pick me up. Nice. Reception may ask if u want upgrade don’t do it till u check out your room first we had sea view. Room great and clean. Place:situated on beach and 4 pools with a bar. Drinks were great we tried pretty much everything. Waiters came and took orders and got drinks bring to you at night and daytime. There was pool foam party every Monday at 3. Food: Italian, Japanese, steakhouse and buffet. We tried all of them was all great. Don’t have to tip. Cleaners were out every day cleaning windows, poolside, rooms. Couldn’t fault them. Staff was more than happy to help anywhere. Entertainment : show on every night some great and not so great. The team are out from 8am till 12 at night they did great job. Some shows by the team some from outside. Had Mexican night, rock night, Mexican culture night, Michael Jackson night some more. Outside the hotel is shopping places also go down the strip (turn left and follow road)which has nightclubs and souvinier shops, it’s safe. Some of the shop people may say come in just say no thanks or don’t make eye contact but we got out shopping great. Hotel overall can not fault it. Our 1st week was quiet then 2nd school holiday in uk. Got crowded had to make sure got up early for towels down but it rained so. Other Than that great stay for two weeks and great food.was all inclusive. The sports bar is 24/7 so u can get food and drinks when the buffet finishes at 10.30pm. Would return again
Booked the wrong RIU Cancun - be careful of name.
I booked the wrong RIU Cancun in an attempt to get together with old friends and family who live a long way away. I got the wrong hotel name, and there are 3-4 RIUs in Cancun. Been trying to transfer to join the rest of our friends now for 3 days, and no luck . just Try Tomorrow, Try Tomorrow. We like this hotel just fine, but want to be with the rest of our friends. Be sure you choose the right RIU when you reserve a room in Cancun! Be careful!!
Most perfect location, the hotel is so vibrant and pretty. Rooms are basic but they look really nice. We had paid for an upgrade with a seaview. We were on level 10 and was worth every penny, the view of the ocean was absoulty breathtaking. We were so excited to wake up each morning and go on the balcony. All inclusive is brilliant as you can have as many drinks as you like free and they top your mini fridge up in the room with water, cokes, lemonade etc. Of course you get the breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was brilliant, but we found we couldn't eat lunch and dinner there also so we often ate out. The staff are so friendly and cant do enough for you. It's a real treat going back to your room after being out all day and have it all cleaned and spruced up for you. All the staff are constantly working hard to make everywhere spotless. Of course there is the lovely beach just outside the hotel, but we loved to venture to the public beach behind the Hard Rock Cafe.. the waves were so much fun! Cancun has stolen our heart and the Riu Cancun was such an amazing stay. It is where dreams are made! ❤
NICE BUT COULD BE BETTER
The hotel itself is very nice though to be honest more a 4star than a 5star. I stayed at the Peninsula last year and there were definite differences between this and the palace(apart from the price!).thoughboth 5star The beach was very nice though it started to lose the sun from about 1pm and you needed to move your lounger to stay in it. Though it did take care of the issue of no shades for those that needed it. There was no seaweed problem while I was there and the bits that did wash up were raked up and removed. A few sellers everyday but no hard sell from anyone. We did see a waiter some days but not every day but I think they also did around the pool areas too. I did spend a couple of days by the pool which was clean and tidy, I did not use the main pool though could see all the fun and games going on. It is a matter of choice it was there if you wanted to join in. There was a sun shade if you needed. The restaurants were fine with plenty of choice in the main buffet, after staying with Riu on a regular basis we are used to the massive choice and found the way to go is to not pile everything on your plate just because you fancy everything, just set yourself out a meal. I was quite perturbed at the amount of waste people left. I sat next to a lady one day that brought 3 platefuls of food to the table and picked at the mountains on all plates then left the majority. I thought she had a family of 6 arriving! Would you cook everything in your cupboard and pick at it then waste the lot?? We were served by Mauricia who was fantastic and very attentive. Drinks were a mixed bag, some days strong others less so, to be honest I was fine though I have seen others make negative comments in regard to this. I prefer to be conscious on my holiday but each to their own. You could always order another!! Though maybe it’s a competition to see how comatose you can get in the shortest time. The main bar was pleasant, drinks were a little stronger here and the service on an evening was great – I think the lady was called Mary, she remembered our order and as soon as one glass was empty voila you had another full drink. The room was great we were on the fourth floor not too far from the lift, clean and tidy and done daily absolutely no complaints, though I did not strip the bed or get out my fine tooth comb and microscope to study the room. The view was fabulous!! We were initially given a different room but due to it not fitting in 2 beds we requested a move and that was done straight away with no fuss. The lady on reception was great. I do have a couple of things that were of concern. The walk way from the main bar down to the restaurant was very, very slippy, I appreciate that it was constantly wet due to people coming in from the pool however there was an underlying greasiness which meant it was extremely difficult to manage when on crutches, I saw a few people fall over and they were able bodied! Maybe some slip mats along the way would help. The second was on our last day we checked out in good time which then means your band is removed. You are given a ticket so you can still get food and drink, however when we tried to use the Italian restaurant we were ‘told’ salad bar only, That’s fine no idea why we could not eat from the menu it was the tone and dismissal of us that irked. Did not look at us waved his arms around and actually shouted at a fellow waiter no they only salad, didn’t realise we became second class citizens once the bands were removed. Never had this issue any of the other Rius I have stayed at. I hate glass lifts and one night it whizzed straight up to level 15 my sister and I were mortified, OK we nearly needed to change our underwear afterwardsJ, and definitely needed a stiff drink to settle the nerves All in all I did enjoy my visit but I don’t think I will be repeating the experience, will probably stick to the palaces, it’s the little things that make the difference
