Woah ! What a place, so I visited Mexico a couple of years back and stayed in my first RIU hotel (yucatan) and I didn’t think it could get better, so having booked a holiday with my sister, we decided to branch out to Cancun to see more of the night life and party aspect of Mexico, so we booked our holiday at Hotel RIU Cancun, and what a great choice! So to start off with, we landed at Cancun international airport and was transported to the hotel by TUI, after a draining hour long ride to the hotel (due to traffic), we stepped off and was immediately greeted by the incredibly friendly door staff who didn’t hesitate to help us bring our suitcases inside. We followed them inside and was amazed by how beautiful the main lobby was! Walking over to the check in desk we were tended to extremely quickly with friendly service. NOW one part taht wasn’t made obvious is that on arrival the small tax you must pay to the government, HAS to be paid on CARD !!! luckily the staff were kind enough to let us off with cash and that really brightened our arrival. After being given our room number and a little envelope with some helpful information in, we headed up to our room in the 7th floor, the elevators have a stunning glass window, giving a amazing view of the sea. Once we reached our room we were extremely happy with how clean and spacious the room was, everything was spotless and extremely well kept, the bath room is spacious and has a very large shower and sink area. The bed was very big and comfy, and the room also came with more sitting area and lots of storage, unfortunately the TV is 99% Mexican but with all the other entertainment at the hotel, you won’t be watching the TV anyway! Each room comes with a large balcony and luckily for us our view was phenomenal! We had a amzing view of the beach and pools, with a nice area to sit and have a drink too! The rooms come with a nice “mini bar” with vodka and plenty of other alcoholic and soft drinks in the fridge. Every day the maids clean your room and fill the mini bar and towels if required. Now moving on downstairs... so the main lobby also has a large bar with friendly staff and a large menus of beverages to choose from, along with the Japanese restaurant. There is a small ATM if required and the TUI reps tend to be around this area if you need them . Just outside is a incredible view of the sea with plenty of seating area, there is a spa and the Italian restaurant. A short walk will lead you to the Stage where the evening entertainment takes place along with plenty of excursion reps who are there during the day, just behind the stage are the pools, the first is a swim up bar with a great view of the beach, and next to it are the next 2 pools, the middle pool is where the entertainment team have there water sports and games along with plenty of sun beds for you to top your tan up. The final pool is the infinity pool and it’s the deepest off the pools. Back over to the stage, just next to it is the 24hr sports bar, this is a large bar with plenty of screens to watch the game on, pool tables and computers, along with a mini snack bar with burgers, nachos and other little snacks for you to eat 24/7. The buffet, steak house and gourmet restaurant are all concreted just ahead, now all off the restaurants and food is phenomenal and is all worth a try !! BUT the gourmet restaurant was a let down I’m my person opinion, as the food wasn’t as great compared to the other restaurants, but give it a try and if it’s not your cup of tea, just pop into the buffet next door! As entertainment goes the entertainment team do a AMAZING job, they have pool games on and out of pool games on every day, there funny, enthusiastic and are always happy, they add a amazing touch to the whole experience as there are also shows on every night and the entertainment team take you to clubs around the area such as Coco Bongo every night, the hotel also has its own nightclub just next to the stage. If you have kids, don’t worry as the entertainment team also have a kids club (RIU land ). Overall I loved Hotel Riu Cancun and would highly recommend it to anyone, lovely place, amazing staff and beautiful beaches, what more could you want. Just to end I want to say a special thank you to the entertainment team and the bar staff for making the trip such a amazing experience and making us feel happy.
Great holiday. The hotel was great and staff were very friendly and hard working to keep guests satisfied. The room was also very clean although smelt a little damp I’d say due to the air con. The entertainment team were fab and kept everyone involved. Good location near the main strip. Will be returning next year, as we enjoyed it so much.
DO NOT GO! FRONT DESK THINK THERE THE CARTEL !!
its such a shame ive had to write this review i tried to email riu and all i got was an apology which i dont think this is good enough and didnt sound like they was going to do anything about the front desk staff which is quiet frightening with how they treat there customers, they think there some sort of mexico cartel mafia with the slightest of complaints. many time heard them threatening guests, ourselves included at the slightest complaints, threatening mexican police then we will get bribed for more money etc scare mongering so you dont complain even though valid complaints. need big lessons in customer service! scared us and wouldnt ever go again there disgusting how they look and speak to you is not like a customer, not greeted with no smile just a bad attitude and dont want to resolve anything, food is lovely but the premium drinks are not premium at all watered down disgusting, hotel is run down and shabby, rivera maya much nicer staff hotels and is premium drinks at a less price i would stay away from cancun all together overrated and run down constantly baggered for money and very errie feel police corrupt worst experience.
Slight improvement necessary
Our stay at Riu cancun overall was amazing however I will go from the start and be entirely honest... Upon arrival me and my partner were assigned room 0102 and after visiting the room it did not live up to the picturesque expectations/portrayal at all. The room- all though clean- was bang average and did not boast a view what so ever, I was extremely disappointed given the money we’d paid and I went to reception to express my dismay. However, the reception staff, in particular a gentleman, was very un-accommodating, unprofessional and rude... after the disagreement and getting no further with him I left the disagreement as I was at a wits end and just wanted to get me and my partner organised- after all we was here for a good time. Luckily, the bar staff made up for it! In particular a waitress called Jazmin was AMAZING! So kind, attentive and friendly she could not do enough! The drinks were also amazing- we never experienced any issues with alcohol apparently been “watered down”- it was always fine Food was also always amazing (sometimes repetitive) but there was always something for everyone and the speciality restaurants were great. I would also like to mention a waiter in the buffet area named Carlos- he was amazing!! Very friendly, attentive and always smiling and brightening up our evenings! We always sat around the lively pools with the animation team! The pool had many activities, and the team was great! Also the entertainment at night was good too! Cleanliness around the hotel was FAB!! The cleaners and maids do not get enough credit. Overall great stay just need improvement regarding customer service and language skills on reception and better room allocation services.
Great lively hotel
Very big hotel we were a party of 4 and had rooms in the annexe part this bit is only 6 floors high we where in room 641 we had an amazing ocean view our rooms where spotless and cleaned every day the maids and cleaners work so hard the never stop and are a credit to the place and should get paid alot better. It's a very busy lively hotel and we loved that .it does have a separate quiet pool area but dont expect a quiet day by other pools we loved that something was happening all the time the bar staff also work very hard .the choice of food in the various restaurants is so extensive something for everyone we liked the view from the turquesa restaurant our waiter Gil was attentive and polite always found us a table and remember our drink order again he is a credit to the hotel. Booked trips with the scuba caribe team mixed reviews about them whale sharks swimming was amazing
