Boys Trip to Cancun
The Riu Cancun was great. Food was awesome and the all staff were all very friendly. The Animation team made the trip with the activities and shows put on around the resort. Would definitely recommend.
Friends 40th Birthday
I’ve stayed at the Riu chain of resorts many times all over the carribean. I am a travel agent and referred my friend as well as her family and friends to come to Riu Cancun for her 40th birthday. The entertainment was substandard for what I’m used to from them. I was also disappointed with the food choices. There was not much variety day to day. Lastly a wait staff person told one of us to “shut up” more than once when requesting to speak with wait staff management. He did this in front of other guests as if it were acceptable. The hotel gave us a note with a water bottle and a bottle of some cheap champagne as an apology. The thought was nice but definitely didn’t take away from the action or embarrassment felt. I’m always referring people to this chain and have another vacation booked to visit another one in June. Definitely reconsidering sending my clients somewhere where they will be talked to that way.
Wedding Anniversary Celebration
My husband and I, have traveled many years to different resorts on this special occasion. Our wedding anniversary. The experience was a different one at The RIU CANCUN. The hotel is beautiful, minutes away walk, to the exciting Cancun fun night life. Awesome beach, clean pools, exceptional food, room are spacious and always clean. We really can't pinpoint any one in particular, the whole crew went above and beyond to meet our needs in every department. Though,I do remember Rosalia at Turquesa restaurant, always with a smile and ready to serve you. When, we got to the room, there was a beautiful letter, with best wishes on our special day, also a bottle of champagne and a fruit platter. I was very much appreciated. Thank you so much, for making our days at the hotel,an unforgettable experience. Laura Perez, Room Division Manager, is very professional Manager, our safe deposit box couldn't open, she immediately solved the problem. Will definitely recommend this property to family and friends. Thank you all!!!! Cordially, Jose & Alicia Diaz
Not to be compared with Riu hotels elsewhere
Be aware if booking with Tui that the rooms are standard. Upon arrival we checked in and was given our room key to find the balcony had a 4 foot wall in front of it and the top of palm trees to look at and it stunk of mould, even the drawers stunk. See the pic. I had read about this on trip advisor after i had already booked and went into the shop to request that we didn’t get one of these rooms located on the 2nd floor and had also emailed the hotel as this holiday was a special trip to celebrate my milestone birthday. Seems my request was ignored. We went straight back to the front desk to request a room change the receptionist wasn’t surprised to see me and told us as tui only book standard rooms the only other option was to upgrade at a cost of £365 and gave us keys to 2 rooms to look at One on the 5th floor which had only a partial sea view, the other on the 8th floor. We had to pay coz i wasn’t looking at a wall for the next 2 weeks. The beach pic is of the view from the 8th floor. I was also told it was low season so they could have accommodated as there were plenty of available rooms. 2 and a half hours later we settled in, not what you want after a 10 hour flight. This hotel is not to the standard of Rui’s i have stayed in before and i would definitely not rate it as a 5 star and neither would i return. There are no tea/coffee makers in the rooms and no room service. The beach is thin with rocks as you enter the sea and come mid afternoon the sun disappears as its blocked by the building. The food is the same every day, gets a tad monotonous after a few days. It can get rowdy which is understandable due to the location. The staff are really friendly on a plus note and security is good. The nightlife is about a 10 minute walk away. You can also use the facilities at Riu Caribe which is a 10 Minute bus journey away. The beach is so much nicer and personally i think the food is too, i wished i had booked in there instead.
Great time at RIU
We stay here with our adult children. This was our first time in Cancun and also an all-inclusive hotel. • Food - Could not complain about the food, it was amazing at all restaurant • Service – fantastic • Pool - Had a very party theme music was very lound, which wasn’t really our scene. However good for people watching :). The day we were leaving we seen that there was a more out-of-the-way pool which could have suited us better. Saying this the beach was amazing the water was clear blue and perfect temp. • Rooms – Average -beds were nice. Due to the humidity the curtains did have some stains on them which could freak some people out I suppose. • Location – Good - small walk to the main entertainment area. A fun local bus ride (which was an experience to have) to the shopping district. Over all had a great time at the hotel and would recommend if you are young or young at heart as it has a bit of a party theme in our view. Saying that there were families there with young children. We are Australian so it was a new experience for us.
