Not a bad hotel but not 5 stars!

English: My wife, daughter(6 years old) and I are from Colombia but we live in the US. We stayed for 1 week at the resort and I want to share my experience with anyone thinking about going to the RIU Bambu. First, the positives: The entertainment for both kids and adults is amazing! There is always something to do. They do a great job of activities for the kids so that the adults can go to the different pool parties that they offer at the RIU Party venue. The beach is absolutely jaw dropping! It’s like a post card. Another thing is Luis at the swim up bar – he is THE best bartender in the resort and is incredibly friendly and kind. The cleaning lady for our room did a superb job! She was amazing. Unfortunately, there was nothing else that we enjoyed. The negative… where to start. The number 1 thing for me was the smoking. Since most of the hotel is open air, they allow smoking everywhere! Most of the guests are European so they don’t really care but it was too much for me. You would be sitting at breakfast and the person sitting next to you would light up and it would blow all in your face. The hotel should do a MUCH better job of advertising that they are VERY smoke friendly. The rooms… the bed was very hard and difficult to sleep on. The refrigerators were poorly stocked (1 water, 1 pepsi, 1 diet pepsi, 1 sparkling water). They had bottom of the barrel brand liquor in the dispensers in the room. The food was not very good at all, it is all buffet style. There no actual sit down and order restaurants(I believe the steakhouse might be but we didn’t make it in time to get a reservation). Our first enjoyable food came the 4th night when we tried the Mexican restaurant. The attention of the staff was less than ideal, my family and I are from Colombia and spoke Spanish to everyone and you could tell the difference in service to the Europeans/Americans. There were too many times to count where I would greet and/or thank the staff and they wouldn’t even bother to respond(The only exception to this is Luis at the swim up bar!). The RIU Parties are pretty much the exact same music but different themes. Don’t expect too much change from one to another, other than the attire. The kids pool party was AWFUL. The show in and of itself was pretty good but there were kids from 3 years old all the way to teenagers! They put water balloons in the pool and the older kids(9-12) would spend the whole party throwing them at each other without a care in the world of who they hit(adults, kids or entertainment staff). It was so that many parents started popping the water balloons to try and keep kids safe. My daughter was hit multiple times in the face by balloons that left marks. All in all, it wasn’t a terrible experience but I would not recommend this hotel unfortunately. I can’t say that I had a terrible time but it certainly left A LOT to be desired. Hope this helps.

    Christmas Day to New Years

I would highly recommend. Good food, perfect walking beach and lots of pools. Great place if you want it hot. Mazatlan and Cuba aren't warm enough in Dec. We travel at this time and Spring Break and its difficult finding an all-inclusive for about $2000 each during these weeks.

    Give this hotel a miss

Having visited this country 3 times this is by far the worst hotel we have stayed in, that bad we complained when we got home and Tui gave us compensation. Tui failed to tell us that Friday through to Sunday citizens of the Dominican are allowed to use the hotel on a lottery type selection. This wouldn’t be a problem but a percentage of these people weren’t very nice , the restaurants were hit really hard even to the scale of taking food home in plastic boxes on the last day of there stay , also walking out of the restaurants with food and dumping it in the bins , unbelievable. On our last Sunday of our 2 week stay one of the adults actually did a number 2 in the chill out pool , which was dealt with them fishing it out and telling people it would be ok in 30 minutes, no chemicals added nothing the barmen at the pool thought it was hilarious,, I didn’t. The Tui rep was offering people £100 from the actual hotel manager. I would never normally do reviews but felt people needed to know about this hotel and how Tui dealt with the situation, poorly on both counts

    Not 5 stars

Me and my husband stayed in Riu Bambu in December just before Christmas. We stayed in block 40 which is far away from the main amenities and beach, but it was ok because it was another pool which wasn't busy just near the building, it also had a bar and a spanish restaurant just near. However, there is a pool party 2 times a week till 11pm, so if you want to go to bed early it will be not possible as the music is very loud! We stayed in deluxe room, it was ok, bed was comfy, it had a safe, conditioning. The food is ok, nothing special. For a la carte restaurants you have to book at 5.30 especially the steak house as otherwise you will have to eat at buffet for dinner too. Steak house and the Kulinarium was nice! However, we both had a food poisoning after eating in spanish restaurant, i am sure it is from there as once I've tried a crab canape I felt it is off and had a bad smell! Also, we had no alcohol so I am sure it is from that particular item. The entertainment is not great, on the days when is pool party there is nothing going on except for kids. The beach at the hotel is very nice! Sand is 'white' ish' and the water is clear blue however it was a bit rough. We have also visited the Carribean side and Punta Cana have definitely better beaches! I do recommend the trip to Saona Island for the relaxed day, and Punta Cana safari tour for the people who would like to know more about the island. However, I do recommend this hotel even after a few issues as it is not the most expensive one anyway!

    Family break

We spent Xmas Eve at Riu Bambu with the whole family. I would say it was the best way to relax in the right hotel before the end of 2019. Bambu is really nice. The deluxe rooms were clean and the minibar refilled every day. Also, it has a lot of activities for the day. Food was great and I recommend the Steak House. However, what we liked most was the friendliness of the hotel's staff. I would return if I had the chance.
