I actually expected a little better for what I've heard about RIU resorts
I'll start out by saying this resort was a little too large for my personal preference. I like smaller resorts that you can get to know the entertainers & guests better. There were too many people to make a real connection with anyone. This is the first time this has happened since I started travelling. Check in was quick & easy. Attentive staff. Food was par for the course for Dominican. Nothing special. In saying that, Lazaro & Doris in the main buffet always treated us well, as we were a group of 9. They always made sure they had a table for all of us! Thanks to you two!! The beach is awesome. Clean water & no seaweed on the beach. Lots of chairs to choose from. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of intervention from the management in keeping children out of the swim up bar pool. A bar is no place for children. Not only did they splash & carry on, they were jumping onto the tables! No one said anything. Not good. I won't go back to this resort for this reason alone.
Great resort........one exception
We are currently at this resort and see it has many positives...great beach with lots of lounge chairs, clean warm pools, fun activites throughout the day, tasty food: however a drawback arrived with the weekend. Locals come in in groups of 8-10 minimum and the noise level [screaming and hollering] becomes unacceptable. Long lineups form in the buffet and it becomes really difficult to enjoy yourself. I feel we did not fly 4 hours, go through the airport hassle etc. to come for this. Also, twice/week there are adults only pool parties which means no evening show. If you are not into drunken pool parties, you are left with no entertainment at all. Once/week I could see but twice is a bit much in a 7-night stay! Overall, a lovely resort: these tow negatives could be easily remedied.
We stayed at the riu bambu from Oct 25th to 7th Nov this is not a 5 star hotel firstly no kettles in the room which you would expect in a 5 star. Locals at the weekend absolute nightmare taking over the bars pools and restaurants.getting served first with everything. People who have paid lots of money getting ignored, having to set your own tables because the poor staff cannot cope. Monday to Thursday was lovely. Rooms not cleaned to a 5 star standard. Location was fantastic, sea palm trees very nice. Filling questionnaire out waiters telling you to put there names on saying there good is not good practice. We will not be returning which is a shame as it's in a lovely location. Weekends need to be organised better
Great except when the locals take over at the weekend
Dont listen to the bad reviews about the staff we found the entertainment staff great especially A.J. and Solomen .we also found the waiting on staff pleasent and always helpful especially Wilkins the bar waiter and Angel the stake house manager who went out of his way to help us .The room was cleaned every day .The only big problem is that the locals take over the hotel at the weekend and we found it difficult to get a meal without waiting ages and the same at the bar,it started to get very annoying when you have paid a lot for the holiday, after the weekend and bank holiday had gone the hotel was wonderful to be at again but for 3 days we hated it.I must thank AJ once more for making our holiday from sitting and having a laugh to going above and beyond sorting my brothers cut toe.
Arrived at the Riu Bambu at the end of October for just 1 week. Went to reception and was quickly checked in so that was all good. We were given an envelope and staff member explained what was inside the envelope. We were all following the member of staff to our allocated rooms, however staff member quickly disappeared so we had no clue where he had gone so quickly, we looked at out envelope that should had out room number on however it was so lightly written we couldnt see exactly what our room number was, long story short we eventually found our room after wondering around Could not read what the wi fi code was on envelope and waited for the bell boy to bring out bags and he kindly done it for us The following day went down for the welcome meeting, which went well, was told by the rep not to be alarmed at the locals that would arrive at the weekend. The pool bar was lovley however empty cups were left on the bars within the pool all day and not removed making it look messy. Adults were getting a little drunk towards the afternoon in the pool and young children were present in the pool aswell,i did not think it was appropriate for such young children to be in that pool in particular due to drunken adults and felt quite edgy about it.i wondered if anything kicked off who would deal with the issue as no security seen No life guards were seen on the poolside of any of the pools I attended. We always used the main buffet restaurant appart from 1 night we went to the steak house, we were brought a salad that we hadn't order and was told we didnt order it. Main meal took over an hr before it arrived. The main restaurant staff were very attentive and worked very hard. When Friday evening arrived and the locals descended the place completely changed from being very relaxing to absolute chaos. The locals were quite rude pushing into to the line when collecting food. The wait in the que to be served was ridiculous. On our last day we didnt even get to eat due to the amount of people waiting in line for food. Also the pools were overcrowded and lots of children splashing and jumping around and you couldnt get away from it.pools stayed open 25/7 so kids were in the pool quite late at night with no parents in sight, this could be dangerous and also noisy for the people in the rooms near to the pool. Staff struggled trying to attend with the amount of people in the restaurant's and our service went down hill, this was not the staffs fault but for the amount of people there they couldnt cope.we were fetching our own drinks and also cutlery as the staff were to busy. Myself and family member both suffered with diarrhoea twice in 1 week and had to get medication from the pharmacist.some food wasn't labelled so you didnt even know what it was, also what about people with allergies. I felt I wanted to go home by the saturday evening due to the chaos the locals were causing. I felt disappointed as it had been so relaxing from Monday to Thursday. Please note that lots of guests have mentioned the issue with the locals on the reviews however IT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED.I would not attend this hotel if the locals were there again in such large amounts. The entertainment was good some nights, Michael Jackson was great and so was the dancers. Other nights were not so great. On the night before we left we were given a questionnaire by a lady and told to fill it out, myself and my sister both filled it out, the lady that was looking after our table pointed out that I had rated the restaurant no so good and wasnt happy with it, I explained that the reason wasnt due to staff but the locals causing chaos in the dining area, but she didnt read my response on the bottom of the form, I think it was very rude to be checking what i had wrote on the form and it was my personal view which i had a right to. I noticed the staff member and another male member who had a suit on so may have been higher that a waiter going around looking at all the questionnaires on the tables,I felt this would put people off putting an honest opinion on the forms as they may had felt pressured to write all positive when it wasn't.I informed the lady that was giving the questions out how I felt about the situation. I think that alot of the issues stem from the amount of locals attending the hotel at the weekend. Cleaning in our room was good and it was done every day also the fridge was filled when needed.
