A perfect holiday in paradise
We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks stay at the Presidente Intercontinental in Cozumel. The hotel is beautiful and the service the staff provide is second to none. From the moment we arrived, the experience just got better and better. A truly personal service where everyone calls you by your name. The staff very quickly recognise and remember what you like, be it drinks, a particular dessert or where you like to sit during the day. One of our daughters, Lily, has Coeliacs Disease and we were very concerned about whether she would have a varied and safe diet while we were away. We needn’t have worried. On the first day, Yasmin and Alejandro (in the breakfast restaurant) took charge and organised whatever our daughter wanted. She was even presented with different things on arrival some mornings as a surprise. As a consequence, Lily wasn’t ill once which is quite an achievement and a huge relief for us. As a family of 5, we had interconnecting rooms which were stunning. Our rooms faced the seafront and it was a joy to open the blinds every morning and enjoy the sun rising. I must have taken a million photos. At the end of the day, the sunsets were truly spectacular. The rooms were spotless and cleaned every day with a turn down service early evening. We also used the room service a couple of times which ran 24 hours a day. Most of our time was spent around the family infinity pool. It was never particularly busy and the pool staff brought drinks and food all day. David and Jesus were very helpful and endlessly cheerful and polite. In fact, they all were. Beach towels were obviously provided in abundance. The weather was wonderful - exceptionally hot and humid. I used the spa a couple of times and had fabulous massages. Victoria even plaited my hair after one. My three daughters, aged 13 and twins aged 11 also had shorter childrens’ massages which they loved. That might have been a mistake ;-). My husband and and the children also used the very well equipped gym a number of times. It was very impressive and very quiet. In fact the whole hotel feels quiet and tranquil which helps to make the whole experience relaxing. The highlight of the holiday (for my husband and the girls) would probably be the amazing Scuba-du Diving School which is situated at the hotel. They had all passed the classroom and pool part of the PADI exam and just had the open water bit to go when we arrived. My husband corresponded with Scuba-du beforehand and booked the final sessions before we arrived. We were assigned Sandra and Marina for the four open water dives and they were absolutely brilliant. We can’t thank them enough. They were brilliant with the girls in particular. And especially patient with one of ours who got a reality check when they went out to sea and she realised she was going to have to step off the boat. Quite brave when you are only 11 years old. The diving was a huge success and we made lots of friends because of it. It is a real conversation starter. A lot of the hotel guests were there to scuba dive and snorkel and Cozumel is very well known for it. It is a beautiful place. My family saw lots of marine life including turtles, barracudas, huge crabs, eagle rays, octopuses, sharks and much more! Mexico has a problem with sargassum (seaweed) at the moment but it has not affected this side of the island. The other side has lots and you wouldn’t want to swim in the sea there. Player del Carmen on the mainland also has lots and all along that coastline. In summary, a perfect holiday. A beautiful hotel, excellent service and fabulous weather. I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. The only negative is that I had terrible hair for the entire holiday due to the humidity 😆 although I don’t think I can hold that against the hotel. Thank you to all the staff at the Presidente Intercontinental who helped to give us such a special and memorable holiday. Xxx
Cozumel’s Top Hotel
By far the best hotel in Cozumel, situated on its own private beach with just remodeled rooms and 4 on site restaurants to choose from makes it the perfect choice for an amazing vacation or an weekend escape, with or without children for whom there’s also an amazing swimming pool.
Nice resort with a few issues
Overall this is a 1st class service oriented resort. Although the property is 50 years old it is well maintained. There is a small swimming beach cove that he hotel is centered around including (4) distinct restaurants. Personnel at the hotel are all friendly and accommodating. We did however encounter a few issues. We booked a tower ocean view room and found that the air conditioning was not working properly the 1st night. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk the next morning, they offered to change our room. The following day I asked for the manager to request a credit for the problem we encountered, which they provided, but was surprised to overhear another guest complain of the exact same problem while I was at the desk. Clearly they are aware of the issue but continue to book the rooms without repairing the air conditioning system. Another issue we had was with their “activity desk.” Before arriving I called the hotel to have them arrange for a car to pick us up at the airport. I was quoted $110 for round trip private car service. Without knowing the area or distances I had them make the reservation. When we arrived I surprised to be picked up in a van used to service large groups and to find that the drive was a short 15 minutes that taxi(s) charge just under $10 for. When I brought this to the attention of the “activity desk” they offered to cut the price by more than half. We also had similar experiences with the same desk when booking other activities. When you are staying at a first class resort and using a service which appears to be under their control and at their direction, you do not expect to be treated the same as you are when dealing with a vendor on the street whereby everything needs to be negotiated. These issues would not prevent me from recommending the hotel but are issues that should be rectified.
Best of the best..
Went with family and friends, the hotel gives us an excellent services. A fresh juices and fresh cold towel has been given even me and my brother went to the pool area. The beach was super clean with no seaweed. All the staff was friendly with smile even a maid will smile to you. A great hotel as far as I have been stay all over the country. We didn't go out due this hotel provides everything you need. The restaurants are amazing, shame that we didn't stay long. Definitely highly recommended.
Fantastic Beach location and NO SEAWEED!
We originally had accommodation in Playa Del Carmen, but arrived to find the seaweed issue was much worse than anticipated and not only had given the water a murky brown colour, but a horrible smell, so we searched for somewhere NOT affected and being of the western side of Cozumel Island (not eastern coast, which are all affected) the Intercontinental resort & spa ended up being the perfect choice. The service was excellent from start to finish and every staff member we encounter just seemed to love their job and want to make you happy and ensure everything was all ok at all times. Especially the poolside attendants were constantly checking to see if you needed anything and happy to serve you, not only food and cold drinks, but also bring you a cup of ice when needed too. David and two older gentlemen (I think) Giuliano (?) and Arturo (?) unfortunately I didn’t write down all their names as I should’ve at the time. But these three gentlemen were outstanding with their service. As was Edwardo from the breakfast restaurant, who was lovely and greeted us each day by name and had our table all ready for us regardless of our sleep-ins. The resort itself was lovely and had plenty of seating options both by the swimming pools and also the oceanfront and clean sandy beachfront, so there was never an issue finding somewhere to sit, unlike many other hotels I’ve stayed in at times. The beachfront was nice and clean and was protected on both sides so created a nice little cove, the water was crystal clear and you could snorkel straight off the beach and find lots of fish, stingrays, crabs and even a lobster. The blue of the ocean was beautiful and being west facing you got to experience fabulous sunsets each night over the ocean directly from the swimming pool, which overlooked the beach. There was free trial scuba diving session each day in the main swimming pool which children could partake in too from 8yrs and up. My children loved the chance to try it out and experience the sensation of diving and breathing underwater even if it was in a pool. We also hired out the two wave runners (jet skis) for $60 each (for memory) for 30 mins which was lots of fun and there was also regular or clear canoes and paddle boards for hire at reasonable prices too. The restaurants we tried were all fantastic and had great selections of international and Mexican food. We also celebrated 4th July there with an all American style BBQ Grill and buffet that night, with great classic American music playing and some fun decorations for you to wear and some red white and blue cocktails and dessert too. The Spa was lovely and you are able to use the steam room and hot tub freely anytime regardless of booking a massage or treatment. Check out is at 12 noon, but we were able to stay be the pool after we checked out and had our bags stored until much later that afternoon and then showered in the spa before departing for our ferry back to Playa. The room itself was very clean and well serviced although our (two small double beds) room was small we had a balcony which overlooked the ocean which was lovely to wake up to each day. Bathroom had nice amenities and was modern and clean although the shower & toilet area was a little on the small side. There is some much larger rooms which have a verandah (deck) which I would choose to stay in next time as they had a nice relaxing lounge/seating area too. We are so happy to have found this little oasis of a resort, especially considering it was a last minute booking and relocation and we would definitely love to return here again and stay longer next time !!
