This was our 4th time to stay at Playcar. The resort was as nice as it always was. Enjoyed walking down 5th avenue and a trip over the Cozumel Palace also. The hotel staff was wonderful and we will be back. The only negative was the beach erosion which hopefully they will take care of soon.
My most favorite vacation spot ever!!!
This place has all the right mix of a beautiful location with plenty to do, the most friendly and helpful staff ever, luxurious rooms with a perfect view, the famous Quinta Avenida right around the corner, ferries to Cozumel just off the beach, a true all inclusive experience with unsurpassed service, and I could go on forever. For me, it beats any 5 star hotel in the world because this is one place that knows how to treat people with unmatched sincerity. Saludos to Antonio Avila and Ramiro who gave us great meals in the Caribbean Terraza, which was just one of our favorites. Olivia, Lina, and Fabiola took such good care of us in the Cafe del Mar. They made sure we didn't go hungry the day we left at 6am by sending us box lunches and helping us wrap some pastries for breakfast. Joaquin even prepared a special dessert just for us that night before. We miss this place so much already.
Absolutely lovely holiday (long and in-depth viewing incoming)
We stayed in a deluxe double room which was absolutely lovely - we had a partial sea view with a ginormous bed and a hot tub big enough for the two of us. I can’t fault the room at all, it was cleaned regularly, always fresh towels, a coffee machine, unlimited bar and fridge included in the all inclusive, a bottle of wine on arrive. Everything we needed! The food all round was very good; the main buffet restaurant was very good for a buffet, the food was always fresh, hot, constantly refilled and never empty. They also cook you up fresh eggs, omelettes, pancakes etc for breakfast, pasta, fajitas, tacos for lunch/dinner. There’s plenty to choose from! We ate in here once or twice for lunch and dinner as I’m personally not a huge buffet fan, I just prefer a sit down meal, and a few times for breakfast. We generally ordered breakfast room service via the hotel app which is amazing, and included in your all inclusive! (As is lunch, dinner snacks etc - great idea) (also a great drunken pizza at 3am) The Asian restaurant Momo was our favourite, lovely food and they were very accommodating to our vegetarian needs showing all the food was cooked fresh. The Italian restaurant was also nice, though note men do have to wear trousers and it’s slightly slower service if you’re wanted a quick meal. The fourth restaurant Lahna was off site but we didn’t visit because it’s a set menu and they don’t cater for vegetarians which was a shame! We did hear great things though (provided you have a big appetite as there are a lot of courses) The pool bar was also great, the waitresses are constantly coming around asking if you want drinks or snacks, and you can ordered food to your sun loungers which is a great afternoon snack or lunch idea. The location of the hotel was perfect, right by the pier where you can hop on a ferry and go over to Cozumel for the day. We did this once but annoyingly chose the one day it was raining over there! It was still lovely, we got hounded as we stepped off the boat to rent cars, bikes, got offered tours and all sorts, but settled on a beach club a ten minute taxi drive away called Uva’s which was okay. I’d recommend doing more research than we did and plan what you want to do before getting over there. The idea of renting a scooter does sound fun though, it’s a super easy island to navigate. The hotel is also at one end of fifth avenue which is ideal- the first time we took a stroll we were a bit overwhelmed by the constant harassing to get you into shops and constantly being offered ‘a good time, some charlie’ (you know what I mean). The strip is sort of broken up into three, there’s a nice little shopping centre the end of the hotel, then it gets to all the tacky tourist shops and all the harassment, but keep going and you’ll reach some really nice restaurants and another shopping centre about a mile along. We ate dinner one night at a restaurant called Patio 8 which I HIGHLY recommend, the best food we ate all holiday. We also one night went to Coco Bongo which again I would highly recommend, for anyone over the age of 18. We booked through the hotel which was a mistake, as the mini bus transfer didn’t pick us up so we ended up having to take a taxi and the hotel weren’t much help as they had no number to contact the bus and no clue what was going on. So if you fancy a funny night out I strongly suggest booking the top package at coco bongo and getting the centre front row seats. The service was amazing, all the staff were super friendly and helpful, quick with bringing your drinks around the pool and cleaning up after you. The hotel offer you ‘credits’ which I wouldn’t get too excited about. We stayed for two weeks so got $2500 resort credits, which sounds great - but it’s capped on certain things. For example for a couples massage it is around €498 and the credits are capped at 500 for the spa so you can only use one massage, and note you do have to pay the 16% tax on top. You can use them towards other things like chefs dinner, romantic dinner, some excursions etc. But to be honest we didn’t really bother other than for the massage The hotel was generally nice and quiet, there was never than surge of people running down at 8am to reserve sun beds, you could rock up at midday and still be guaranteed space. The entertainment around the pool was fun, tho we never watched any of the evening entertainment, we were happier playing a game of pool in the quiet Luna bar with a g&t! The only criticism I really have is the sea weed! We expected glorious white sandy beaches but unfortunately that’s not the case, we walked half an hour along the beach and it appears to be the same everywhere which is such a shame! My partner was gutted but fortunately for me I’m not a huge beach lover anyway, I’d rather sit by the pool. We did walk along to the right as you leave the hotel, for say 10/15 mins or so and the sea does become a lot clearer and actually quite nice as you get further away from pier, so I’d definitely suggest exploring that if you’re a sea lover. Or alternatively head over to Cozumel and find a nice beach club as seaweed didn’t seem to be an issue over there. Overall an absolutely lovely holiday, perfectly relaxing, just as we both needed. There were plenty of activities outside of the hotel to do, but we were more than happy lounging by the pool making the most of the all inclusive food and drink. Two weeks was definitely enough for us though, I think we were the only people in the hotel staying that long!
Very enjoyable week long stay!
My family and I stayed at this lovely resort for a week June 5-12. We are Palace Elite members and actually upgraded to VIP during our stay. We had a great negotiation with Franz Haas in the Palace Membership building. Abigail in Guest Services was a huge help getting us squared away with our member spa services, additional tours and answered any questions we had. We have previously stayed at the Grand at Moon Palace and Moon Palace Sunrise so we were used to a much bigger resort. We LOVED Playacar and it's intimacy. We were able to get to know all of the staff and we had an amazing room in 334. Huge thank you to Dionicio, Alberto, Antonio, Ivan, Mario (Hibachi Chef) for providing excellent dining experiences!! I have to say Dionicio went completely above and beyond as our server during our stay. He is such a great asset to Palace Resorts! My kids thoroughly enjoyed staying in the Playroom with Brenda! She is so friendly and caring with children! She is great! We visited 5th Avenue which is easy access from the resort. We also visited Cozumel Palace which is another amazing resort that we definitely want to stay in the future. There was a bit of sargassum the first 2 days of our stay but afterwards it cleared up and we were able to spend time in the beautiful ocean. We tried all the restaurants including the adults only Lahna restaurant which was delicious. The outside grill and Momo were our favorites. I love this resort and will definitely return!
Friendly staff, lovely hotel, great 2 weeks!
Me & my two friends have just got back from a 2 week stay here between 2nd - 16th of June. First impressions of the hotel were really nice, the reception area was an open area and looked very modern and well decorated. We checked in with: Virdianna she was really friendly and our check in process was quick and easy. We got to our room and again it was very modern and well decorated. Very spacious with three beds, table and chairs, a tv, mini bar, jacuzzi, alot of storage space and even optics. Room service was available for breakfast, dinner and tea. So we ended up having breakfast to the room every morning which we enjoyed and there was a wide range to choose from. We also had room service a couple of times in the afternoon and a few times at night, again there was a wide range to choose from and enjoyed everything we had. We also ordered coffee & cookies a couple of times and the cookies were really nice. The maids cleaned the room daily and did a great job. The hotel itself is quite quiet with only 200 rooms, which we prefer. So everything was easy to access within walking distance. There were five restaurants: Asian, Mexican, Carribean, Buffet & italian. We didn’t try the Mexican as it wasn’t the sort of Mexican food we would expect. We also didn’t try the Carribean as the whole menu starters & mains were all sea food, which we don’t like. We ate at the buffet once at dinner & once at night, we enjoyed it at the time as it was something different from what we was eating other days. The first 6 days the sea was full of seaweed which was a shame, so we sat round the pool. Theres a lot of entertainment which is good, but not if you just want to relax. The pool was big, including a swim up bar. Theres even a jacuzzi but it was really hot in there so not as refreshing as the pool or sea. After the 6 days the sea had cleared fully so the rest of our stay we sat by the beach, which we prefer. We love the beach. The drinks & food service is alot quicker round the pool, than the beach. So sometimes we went to the bar ourselves for quicker service. Daniela served us the most round the pool and was really friendly and Slyvia served us the most at the beach and she was lovely. We ate round the pool/beach most days with a wide range to choose from and we enjoyed it. We ate at the Italian twice but it wasn’t the best, the staff were all friendly but the food was abit plain jane and had no flavour. Our favourite restaurant was the Asian (Momos) which we loved. We ate there three times, once was the Tepanyaki show which was amazing as a couple of us have never seen one before, I didn’t catch the cooks name but I have a few pictures attached to this review of him, he was friendly and really good. The food was really nice and had alot of flavour. The other two times we sat down and ate off the menu and again we loved it. It was the nicest Asian food I have ever had, way better than the Chinese I have at home. We were served mainly from three men in here: Ivan, Jesus and another whos name I didn’t catch but they were all very friendly. Fabiola was very helpful at the trips desk who helped us out a few times. Our room key was inside our bands which was a first for me and was good. The only annoying thing was every time we got out a taxi back at the hotel, back from a trip or visited a restaurant we had to give our room number and code off our bands. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would return again. We had a great two weeks and didn’t want to leave.
