Playa Blanca Resort, a nice place, but do your research first
I am a world traveler because of my job. My Girlfriend and I research this place looking for a retreat during the November Panamanian Holidays. Upon arrival, we quickly noticed, that the place was not as depicted in their website. It is a resort and they will try to push you to tour the place and try to invest there. Of course, I have a choice between the RIU, Los Mandarines which we loved it very much. We instead decided to give Playa a chance. The room, was far from what was advertised. Beds was very comfortable but beware, no blankets or quilts. Just sheets. At night, we had to turn the air conditioner off and snuggle closer with an infant in between just to stay warm. The bathroom appeared recent renovated but small. Beware, you get couple of towels but not washcloth or mid side towels The food and the servants get 100 percent excellence. they were awesome! At the Beach we couldn't swim as the water wasn't that clean and had debris in it. The entire time we were at the hotel, the guys in blue t-shirts always trying to sell you a tour and opportunities to invest. Finally on our last day, we decided we had enough, we packed our bags, earlier than anticipated. As we were putting our bags in the trunk of our car and strapping our infant child into the car seat, I had that guy in blue t-shirt behind me trying to get me to take the tour. Finally, I strap my seat belt on, and back to the City, 8 hours earlier. I love Panama, However, Playa Blanca was not one of my favorite.
One week of fun in the sun!!
The family had an amazing time and it was very memorable. Very friendly and entertaining staff, made us feel like family. Tarky is one of entertainment staff members that went above and beyond to make a one week stay phenomenal. English was not the primary language but Tarky found a way to stay engaged and connected with our inside jokes. 😂”Ochooooo” 😂 “Team Baby Shark”😂 Nemo also help make great memories and jokes that will never be forgotten. Resort was clean and cared for but some improvements and updates needed. This is definitely a resort that we will be revisiting.
Entertainment and staff
Resort was very clean and cared for, although some improvements and upkeeping is needed. Entertainment was really good and memorable. Staff member Tarky and went out of his way to keep us entertained even during a rainy day by teaching us how to juggle and dance which was not expected or mandatory. Staff member Nemo was also always entertaining us and was very helpful with explaining and translating from Spanish to English for us. With the resort being geared to Spanish speaking families mostly, but heavily on local patrons, this was very helpful with not knowing a word in Spanish. These two entertainment staff members gave us many laughs and helped us make many memories. Although there was not much English spoken staff, they tried their best to speak English and help us understand. The staff was very friendly and made us feel like home.
Off Season Value
We found this to be a very clean, adequately cared for hotel, although some improvements and upkeep are needed. We had booked an ocean-view room and received ocean front which was lovely. Housekeepers were very attentive to our requests, although getting extra coffee for the mornings proved to be impossible. Bar & wait staff were friendly & accomodating also. For a small tip they flocked to attend to your needs, & got to know our usual requests without asking them! (For heaven's sake, please tip the staff! So many people think all-inclusive means no tipping, but would you do that at home?) We found it interesting though that seniors were mostly allocated to the 3rd floor (no elevators in building 7) while younger families received the ground floor. We were certainly in better shape by the 7th day, as we likely did the 3 flights of stairs 10 times per day. The buffets were amazingly large & all foods were quite tasty. If you could not find something of your liking you were too fussy for sure. Entertainment was not at all good, being geared to Spanish speaking families mostly, but I realize it was off season for them & they rely heavily on local patrons. There was not much English spoken but we managed with the help of our Spanish dictionary, and after all we chose to visit Panama for the unique experience it would provide. The beach was nice enough but the water was rough as we expected in late September. However, the Grand Pool is a sight to see & was not far from our resort (it is a shared pool for the resort, condos & villas & almost the size of a small lake!) there was a lovely restaurant & bar allocated for our use also. Overall this was a unique experience & we are glad to have had the opportunity to travel to Panama at such a low price too! It may have been off season but it was still a wonderful get-away for us.
Mosquitoes and not clean
I got more mosquito bites during my stay here than I did camping last summer. And this is the first resort I've ever been to where I was bitten at all. Main buffet is not air conditioned or enclosed. Birds and flies were part of the dining experience. Only the japanese restaurant was air conditioned and you had to pay extra for the teppenayi. Buffet was about a third of the one at Playa Blanca Rui. No ice cream for kids unless you bought separately at gift shop. Pools were not kept clean. The bottom was a little slippery and bird excrement and feathers were in the pool some days. I don't mind old and the paint peeling didn't bother me but I couldn't believe how unclean it was. Lagoon pool infinitely better but 10 minute walk away. Rooms sparse... not even a pad of paper or a pen. Maid service was hit or miss...one day was fine the next day questionable. The taco station was yummy the night they served it and the staff pretty friendly. Would not return and am sad I chose this resort for my first vacation in a couple of years.
