Half way through my vacation and not feeling the love or the AC.
The ratings, reviews and recommendations made me feel confident in booking this family vacation. I will say there are many great things about this resort and I've been having a good time but with a "let's make the best of a bad situation" attitude. The AC situation was/is ridiculous. Upon arrival you receive a cold towel to refresh yourself from your journey, only to step into a sweatbox to check in. Sweat was literally dripping from my face and there were no apologies or explanations to be heard. They should hand you the towel after checking in, not before. Or both. I booked a premium suite with a Jacuzzi on my balcony. The description says room with a view but didn't specify. I assumed this meant the lagoon as opposed to the ocean. Imagine my surprise when I step out onto my balcony and all I see are cars in the parking lot. I paid more money for this??? So naturally I go to reception which was still uncomfortably hot to express my disappointment and to ask why that room category would even exist because I can't see why anyone would want to be in a jacuzzi while people getting in and out of their cars can see them. Anywho I was offered another room which had a much better view but the room was half the size of what I reserved and paid for. Nothing was said or done to accommodate me for this. And again not even an apology or expression of concern. I was just made to feel like an annoyance. I'd say there is a 50/50 spilt in terms of friendly and courteous staff vs. the ones that never smile and can't even return a simple Hola! I never know how I'm going to be treated from one minute to the next. Other than that I'm having a blast on the beach and in the pool. I have to believe that the good reviews and ratings are for a reason. Maybe I just picked a bad week to visit.
good for the price and all inclusive
If you were to ask me if a recommend it, it would probably be a yes. What I would mention is food is ok for all inclusive, some nighttime restaurants stand out like Fuego and it's incredible server Christian and Market Grill Rodizio. Tacos at Blue agave are great. Drinks are not watered down. It seems like the hotel was very luxurious when opening, but now it is starting to show need of refurbishment. Pool is worn out, tiles were sharp. seats in restaurants had the leather slashed. Beach and view is beautiful, they do a good job clearing the Sargassum. They to a great job with entertainment at night, great shows and live performers.
If you like AC don’t stay here
It seems that there’s a lack of AC in the entire hotel, including common areas. The rooms don’t go below a certain temperature so if you’re like me and need cooler temperatures to sleep, stay away. Vacation week turned into miserable week of poor sleep and crankiness. You should be in better conditions on vacation than at home. It’s the least you can hope for. Instead, I couldn’t wait to board the plane back. What a waste.
We booked with Paradisus for the beginning of august for a week, we were very excited. As soon as we arrived there was an employee waiting for us with cold towels, they walked us over to the Royal Service building and all of the employees were super nice! They introduced us to our butler Leyner and he took care of everything for us, he was amazing! He booked our cabanas for the whole week, all of our restaurant reservations and everything we needed. The girls in the spa were so nice and helpful and explained everything. The staff at the Palapa restaurant was great and so was the food, Valeria was great. We didn't like the buffet food or the restaurants there, they smell like grease and the food was very bland, cold and very very basic, but the staff was nice. But we started to eat at the Palapa restaurant every day and it was so much better, they make the food basically next to you while your seeing the ocean, it was fresh and way better than all the other restaurants. The hotel didnt feel like it had air conditioning other than in the royal service building, it was extremely hot! The night time "show" wasn't very great, I RECOMMEND STAYING AT THIS HOTEL, IF YOU BOOK WITH ROYAL SERVICE.
Too Hot, Buffet was mediocre
The hotel has no air conditioning in the lobbies, most of the restaurants and they set a limit for AC in the rooms as well making it very unenjoyable to eat in the buffet, restaurants and even in the rooms. It was in the 90s in Cancun for most of my stay, and it was that same heat in the hotel as well which is very unexpected of a 5 star resort. It is very bad when you start sweating the second you start walking anywhere, or while eating at every restaurant and buffet. We are a vegetarian family, and the buffet lacked any variety for vegetarians. They also had no live cooking stations. The resort also charges for many of the extras such as cabanas and they say that they are going to give you $550 in resort credits but then they just give you a useless coupon book with $10 off a insanely priced amenity which is totally unexpected. Some positives were the staff who were absolutely brilliant. The restaurants, although not air conditioned did have delicious food. The infrastructure of the hotel is beautiful with stuff going on nonstop throughout the day. The hotel looks like a rainforest inside which was amazing, however, it also feels like a rainforest which is awful.
