Terrible experience from the very start. The check-in was a nightmare. The hotel is old and feels completely neglected. The mattress was sunken and smelled bad, clearly used by hundreds of people over the years and never replaced. It was so uneven and worn out that I had to sleep with my head tilted down, as if the bed was sloping. When I told Karen at the front desk, she said all mattresses are old and nothing can be done. When I asked if she was confirming that, she suddenly got angry and said she wasn’t confirming anything. Her fake smile disappeared, and she showed pure irritation. No willingness to help at all. The spa doesn’t work, it’s under renovation, but no one mentioned that anywhere. The water in the shower is barely warm, you can’t even take a normal shower. The jacuzzi water is also cold, you literally freeze there. The internet in the room doesn’t work at all. Horrible experience, I would never come back to this place.

BOOK this hotel! We were just there for 4 nights and wish we had stayed longer. Based on other reviews, we upgraded to the Voyager 47 club, and it was 1000% worth it. The Voyager Club offers valet parking, a buffet breakfast, and happy hour. The happy hour included heavy appetizers (with a rotating protein option), and we ate there for dinner on 2 of 4 nights. Our room was upgraded and clean, with daily housekeeping service, and even featured a motion sensor light in the bathroom area for when you need to get up in the middle of the night. The upgraded room did have a few deficiencies: there should be a towel rack next to the sink for hanging a hand towel after you wash your hands, and the shower was poorly done, leaving the old glass shower enclosure metal trim and only using a cheap shower curtain, which takes away from the other upgrades and overall room aesthetic. There are 2 pools, one next to the ocean (with a waterslide) and the other an adult-only pool in the middle of the open-air hotel. We enjoyed both. This location is far from restaurants and about an 8-minute drive to Kona; however, the hotel is within walking distance to the local farmers market (on the property twice a week), as well as a marina. We did 2 excursions from the marina and appreciated being able to walk there. Don't miss out on viewing the manta rays while you are there. I also took yoga classes, and they were excellent. My husband used the Peloton in the gym. If we are ever on the Big Island again, we will book here again.

I recently had an amazing experience at the Outrigger Piko, thanks to Faith — truly a superhero in all tasks. From the moment I arrived, she went above and beyond to make everything smooth and enjoyable. Her energy, attention to detail, and genuine care made the entire visit effortless. It’s rare to come across someone who handles everything with such grace and skill — Faith is the kind of person who turns a good experience into a great one.

Our Outrigger Kona experience
Very helpful staff. Room very nice. Resort has lots to offer. The staff at Voyager 47 very friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience staying at Outrigger Kona Resort.

Friends trip
We had the best experience at the hotel. The hospitality was awesome. Sharlene and Tessa were absolutely delightful and helpful with our requests in the lounge. We would highly recommend this hotel. Rooms are clean and nice.
