My wife & I spent our Anniversary at the Ocean Maya Royale (OMR) for a week & I must say it was a wonderful time. The resort isn’t over the top, but the accommodations were every nice & clean. The staff was SO FRIENDLY & made sure we felt special. I want to specially acknowledge Ilsa (Wait Staff) who really pampered every time we went to dine. Bernier, Osiris & Adrien (H10 Staff) were SUPER friendly & were helpful. The resort was perfectly located, it allowed us to walk up & down the beach & seeing many other properties, OMR was among the best we saw, especially for the price. Prior to arrival, many people talked about the drinks being watered down. I felt they were good to go & you could always ask for double shots. For those who want to experience the local alcoholic beverage (Xtrabentun) was a pleasant drink other than Tequila or Mezcal. There were Coatis, Iguanas & a verity of local animals roaming around, made the experience interesting if you are into nature. We definitely plan to return to OMR sometime in the future.
2 weeks break
We booked our 2 week break via Tui.we have not been on an all inclusive holiday before and so we really did not have huge expectations, just very excited. We choose this hotel as its adult only and smaller than most. The hotel, grounds and rooms were all spotless. The staff were mainly very good. Our room was fantastic, large, bright, clean and very well equipped..large bed, safe, umberella, complimentary mini Bar and hairdryer. The shower was great, spacious and powerful. Our room was on the second floor with a good size balcony. The room was close to the pools/beach and very quite. We tried all restaurants..food quality very good, although we were surprised that the Mexican food was very mild and the Italian restaurant portion size was extremly small.we have never seen so much food and so many choices, but i did find it difficult due to food allergies. The beach was lovely but limited brollies so the need to grab a sunbed early..which can be a bit wearing. We loved the wildlife amd the coffee shop especially tbe smoothies. The party pool was fine..but the music was at times very loud and repetitive. The facilites on offer after check out were brilliant. I enjoyed the evening shows and i thought the hotel tryed very hard with the day of the dead celerbrations and markets stalls. We enjoyed our holiday and would go back to this hotel. .
Nice Resort with great people.
The resort was really nice and we did the Privilage but found that it wasn't really necessary overall unless you had specific need for the extras. You also don't get to choose where your room is as you are in the building right next to the Lobby with a non working elevator. Personally I would of preferred a view of the ocean so next time we will just go standard. The animation team were great people and went out of their way to ensure that your time at the activities pool was fun, so salute to Arturo, Rodrigo, Naomi and Selza. They also did the evening shows and their people skills and talent was great to watch. The food overall was very good and although La Dolce Vita and the Blue Moon have basically the same menu, we did try both. Our main dining was done at La Hacienda Buffet and there was always something to eat, especially the breads. El Charro for afternoon nachos and Mike's for morning cappuccino were good. All of the serving staff always went out of their way to ensure you had whatever you needed. We met so many great fellow tourist from all over the world and it made everyday an adventure on who you'd meet and where they were from. The only downside was that smoking was permitted outside the buildings on the property and around the pool. We found this a bit much as all you would see on the pathways and beside chairs would be cigarette butts. A designated smoking area for both the lobby area and the pool area might alleviate this issue.
Beautiful but neutral
The place is beautiful and the staff are truly amazing. It is a great place to unwind and relax. A few points I would like to share is you cannot take food out of the buffet dining room. You will be stopped at the door. There is room service until 11pm.There is a person that walks up and down the beach selling pot and cigars discreetly. Your representative will only try to sell you pkgs where they get a cut. For instance I was told the resort did not have a dive centre on place and tried to sell me others. There is one right down at the water. All packages are about $100US each. You will feel pressured to buy into H10 resorts. You will get rewarded for your time but there is a lot of push with the carefully orchestrated meeting. We did have a pair of shoes taken from our back ground level porch and medication taken that was not locked up in the safe on two separate occassions. All bars are closed by 2am. There is a free city tour but you get dropped off a jewelry place for an hour first where you are followed and pushed into buying jewlery. You will see a selection of wild life walking around the resort. The pools are right by the beach which is nice and are open until 8pm at night. The bartenders are very friendly. It is not a big resort. It is a beautiful place but I found Playa del Carmen expensive and would not go back.
Not worth the Privilege
After 2 weeks of staying in city hotels across Mexico we booked Privilge here to unwind and be spoiled. What a disappointing experience. We checked in at 11pm so the concierge service had ended, fine - but the next morning when we sought out the concierge we were given even less information than the night manager had; no tour of the place, no explanations, just an attempt to sell their new resorts in Mexico and Jamaica ("it will only take 90 minutes" !!!) When we arrived the key cards wouldnt work, nor would the master key card. 30 minutes later it was fixed to get us in the room but didn't work the next morning. The Privilge desk were a little uninterested and no apology was given. The room smelled of damp and is in dire need of an upgrade; clean enough, but tired. You also have to be up with the larks to reserve a spot on the tiny privilege section of the beach, or the pool for that matter, so we found d ourselves literally kicking about with no where to park for the day. You could stay on your balcony, but beyond the limited minibar theres no service there. Overall, very disappointing, not worth the money, and we wouldn't return or certainly recommend paying privilege.
