Better Than I Was Expecting
Just returned from a 5 day stay. I was concerned about the resort after reading many of the reviews ... Summary - better than I was expecting, good value for the money, would stay here again Pluses - nice beach, friendly staff, helpfulness of staff, quantity of food, availability of food & drinks almost all the time, $5 taxi ride into Tamarindo, felt safe at resort & in Tamarindo, resort ran activities from dart games to beach volleyball, nice/pretty resort grounds Needs Help - rooms are a bit outdated, quality of food could be better, maid forgot to lock sliders to patio after cleaning room/patio twice Misc - some remodeling being on tiles around pool currently, many of staff do not speak much english, but it wasn't a problem
What an amazing resort, everything was perfect, I loved my room, very comfortable, spacious and beautiful decoration. All the staff are so kind, I really enjoy my dance lesson there! I’m vegetarian, and I love the food too! I definitely come back soon! Pura vida!
" Not Worth The Price "
We stayed at Occidental Tamarindo AI , this was not worth the price. For an "all inclusive " resort it left much to be desired. Superior ocean front room, a joke--if you squatted and squinted you could see the surf thru the trees - which were growing in front of all the ocean facing rooms, which were on state land & could not be cut. The bar was not stocked, only one of beer, pop, water etc. had to ask each time we were lucky enough to see the the fellow to bring enough for two people. The food at the buffet restaurant was ok, mostly. The second "good" restaurant was at the far end of the property and was a looong walk for my husband so we never were able to eat there. The spa was also at the far end and I will say that the two massages that I had there were among the best. Very few of the staff spoke any English, most none at all. Michele at the front desk was most helpful. The sliding door going out to the balcony did not slide, we had to tug & pull as the track was filthy--and the outside handle was broken off so you could never shut the door - AC running in the room. Our safe never operated properly, complained several times & finally it was replaced. The shower head was unusable as half of the water came out like a fire hose. One week-end the resort was RENTED OUT for a graduation party--I could go on but suffice it to say this was our worst stay at an - ha ha ha - all inclusive. By the way this was the second room that we stayed in as the first was not acceptable.
Surfs up great stay!
Our first time to Costa Rica will return, many locals vacation there, that was enjoyable. I do need to brush up on my Spanish however most guest and staff spoke English to accommodate. Ocean was clear and warm , we enjoyed watching the surfers early morning and evening.
This is not a 4 star resort
I read reviews all the time and i'm often amazed at how many people complain about things. That being said "here i go" first the good. The grounds of the resort & the beach are great. If you like to explore you can walk out to the beach and follow a river into undeveloped jungle/woods. Now for the bad. This is not a 4 star resort or a 3 1/2..maybe a 2 1/2 to 3. A 4 star all inclusive resort does not charge $12.00 a day for wifi. Parking is terrible and you have to do it yourself & park on the road. during the day the only bar open is the pool bar and it is only well drinks served in a 9 1/2 ounce water cup... beer & wine served in this too. The only meal we could eat at the resort is breakfast & that is because they had an omelette station. lunch & dinner buffet is not worth being free. We drove into tamarindo to eat lunch & dinner. Non motorized sports like kayaks are available, but only on a guided tour? i dont want a guided tour I would want to take out the kayak. The room was nice size but very moldy smelling & mold on bathroom door that i cleaned with a wet wash cloth. my advice to management would be "if you are going to tout yourself as a 4 star resort then include wifi, fix your buffet for both lunch & dinner, use international liqour, & increase parking. If anyone reading this is not bothered by any of my complaints then you will enjoy Occindental Tamarindo.
