To keep it short if your over the age of 50 you would enjoy this resort. If your looking for a younger group, and wanting to drink and party for an atmosphere this resort is not for you. The resort is quite small with not much to do, it’s also a ways from the strip where the larger resorts are
Good value for money paid
The resort is clean, beach is nice but small and location is close to all amenities. The food and staff are the best, so courteous and eager to please, typical of all Mexican resorts. The bar tenders are very efficients and so are the servers, front desk personnel are great. Hector the life guard is the best in the business. Now on the negative side, the enterntainment crew for the beach and around the pool are the worst I have ever seen, over the last 10+ years with 3 carribean trips a year and most islands this crew requires fine tuning. During our first week, we had to get someone from the crew to bring out games to the beach and playing either bocce, horseshoe, darts or sand bag toss, games would last 3 to 4 minutes and then the crew had enough, pack their goods and left only to hide in the corner where the music was played. We did not bother them any further to play games. They would play games amongst themselves, the pool game at 1600 hrs around the pool was good but other than that, it was pretty bad. The Mexican resto (Angel and Jose) were great, good sense of humour and so friendly. All considered you get what you paid for. We would not return
A comfortable stay with friendly staff and good food
The Occidental Costa Cancun is located in the hotel zone - a well-developed, clean, safe area in Mexico. My honeymoon was excellent, even though they didn't go out of their way to do anything special. Pros: * Located in the hotel zone, which isn't too far from the airport * Most staff members are bilingual (English/ Spanish) and are very polite and friendly * Clean * Facilities appear modern and well-maintained * Buffet restaurant * 3 a la carte restaurants which are all very close by * 24 hour snack bar * Lots of activities which can be booked in the lobby * TV in room with English and Spanish channels * Events every night * The weather was mostly sunny in November * Big bed and spacious shower Cons: * WiFi costs extra (but the signal strength and speed were adequate throughout the compound) * Only 1 relatively small pool * Small beach which was an unpleasant green and filled with seaweed during my stay (this was probably a problem with all beaches at the time) * Somewhat far, relative to the other hotels. It takes a while to get there, and there aren't many places of interest within walking distance
The other side of Paradise #Cancun
There wasn't much to be desired as this place covered all bases. I was very satisfied. The pool aerobics, nightly shows and impeccable wait staff was beyond improvement. The activities were awesome but a little more coordination between staff would be helpful when it comes to dinner reservations and bus schedules. I had an absolutely wonderful time and there is not much else to say.
A Nice Quick Trip
We went to the resort for four days over our Thanksgiving break and overall enjoyed our stay. The staff is very friendly and the pool is great. There is lots to do nearby and the beach is small but adequate. There are two areas that did fall short of expectations: there is no complimentary WiFi and all of the bars stop serving at 11. Overall though, you get good value for your money.
