If you want to relax and listen to nature-forget it-noisy rooms, smokey, and full of kids
The Overview-If you are a functional adult, a non-smoker without kids or full body tattoos, and your hearing still works, are annoyed by drunks, noisy rooms and room cleaners, this is NOT the place for you. However, if you are deaf, smoke anywhere you want, have kids and a wife you want to ignore, have full body tattoos, have no social skill or manners, get drunk and loud as to annoy everyone around you-this IS your place.
Wildlife is abundant
Overall great experience. Tropical resort, lush and lots of wildlife up close. Pools and beach were very good. Food was 6 out of 10. Rooms were spacious, clean and updated. Air Conditioning was great - always set at 22C with an overhead fan which kept air movement at night). Block 18 was the best for the monkeys visiting you on your balcony. That was awesome. A la cartes: 5 out of 10. Con: Lounge hogs. 6 am you need to get up to get a lounger (ridiculous). People were actually saving up to 6 loungers at night time before they went to bed - not right. Hotel needs to get a handle on people saving chairs at night and before 7 am. They need someone down by chairs to regulate it. I didn't find it a relaxing vacation where we had to get up at 6:30 (still dark out) to grab a couple of loungers. Air Transit Rep we finally saw at end of trip was (VINCENT) useless (rude and dismissive) and our own Rep assigned to us actually never showed up for 2 days). Overall we had a great vacation, no complaints other than a few minor things, but we loved the resort. Gorgeous and well kept. So lush. Grounds were so nice to walk around. All areas clean and spotless. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. If you have any questions, just ask.
Great week in January
My wife and I spent a very pleasant week at the Occidental at Xcaret in early January. We have vacationed in Mexico many times, but had never visited the Xcaret Eco park. We chose the Occidental for our winter vacation due to its close proximity, with the Ultimate Xcaret Xperience inclusion which allowed us access to the park during our vacation week. This turned out to be an ideal choice for us. Xcaret is a large park, and by staying at the Occidental, a short and pleasant walk away, we could enjoy Xcaret a bit at a time, usually in the morning, returning to enjoy the pools at the Occidental during the heat of the afternoon. We found the staff at the Occidental universally pleasant and helpful. Our room was on the top level of building 12, near the back, spacious and quiet, and well cleaned and stocked each day. We tried the specialty restaurants (Mediterranean, Seafood, Steakhouse, Mexican) and found them all very good, with portion sizes larger than we had experienced in other Mexican all-inclusive resorts. The main buffet restaurant was better than we had experienced at other Mexican resorts, with plenty of choices and a good variety of themed food in the evenings. The buffet nearer the beach was okay, serving the usual family foods that the younger guests probably enjoyed. The resort is well integrated into the surrounding jungle, and we were pleased to see plenty of wildlife, including spider monkeys, deer, green and black iguanas, agoutis, and more. The only difficulty we encountered was the elevator in our building, which was out-of-order and not repaired in the week we were there. The bars we found to be adequate, but not quite as nice as those in other Mexican resorts where we have stayed, although we did not have access to the Royal Level facilities so perhaps those are nicer. But these are minor quibbles. We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Occidental Xcaret, and certainly recommend it for travelers like us looking for a relaxing and beautiful resort in a great location.
Already submitted above. in the checklist. would like your feed back that you will work on these points. Two yeas ago with we came here with 14 family members. this year 4 of us. We may consider again in the future if we are assured that the check in will give us what we want and need.
Perfect winter get away!
My husband and I stayed one week at this resort. We had an absolute blast! The check in was very quick and smooth. There was a worker who showed us to our room because the resort is huge! (You will do a lot of walking everywhere you go) our bags were brought to our room within 20 minutes. Everyday we laid by the pool or the beach. The pool chairs do get taken up fast, so get down there early to get your spot. (Like 630-7am)The pool with the bar in the water seemed to be the one where people went if they wanted to be more loud, or rowdy, throwing footballs, ext. The other ones were more low key, relaxed. The bartenders were all great and always came around to get us drinks. They worked very hard! The beach area is so beautiful. It’s not very big, so if you are wanting big open beach to go walk on everyday, this is not the place. The beach they do have though is very well maintained. The sand is soo soft and never got hot. The bar there was great as well. They had plenty of chairs to use, as well as hammocks and very comfortable cabanas that you could use for free! They also have an area of a natural salt water pool which was awesome. Big hit! Food wise, we thought for the most part it was really good. For us personally, we didn’t care for the Los Olives restaurant, or the steak house. But all the other restaurants were great. ESPECIALLY the oriental restaurant. Not only is the food super tasty, our waiter Russell was amazing!! We went there 3 times during our stay. He was the best waiter ever! Went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. He knew our drink order ever time we walked thru the door and would have it in seconds of us sitting down. Hands down, he is the best, go see Russell! The buffets were very good and had a great variety. Omelette bar was 👍🏼 if you are a guy, there is a dress code for the restaurants (not buffet) so make sure you wear long pants for dinner. Night life was also fun, the shows were entertaining and the staff worked very hard, from the dancers to the jazz band. We never had a bad experience with any of the staff. Everyone was really helpful with whatever we needed, very attentive to us, and every time we walked by they would say hi, which I thought was very impressive. The wildlife at the resort was so cool. Monkeys swinging from the trees or go to your balcony, iguanas, deer, and other animals roaming around. Also they have a couple of old ruins to look at. Timeshare pitches weren’t really bad, they tried a couple times but just tell them no if you don’t want to. Our only thing we didn’t really care for is we thought we booked a king size bed but we got two doubles, not exactly ideal. We did book thru Expedia so they said that was why, they did offer to move us rooms in a few days but we declined. Not the biggest deal Bring comfortable shoes because you will walk a lot, they do have shuttles that will take you from A to B. We did love our stay here and want to return!
