Bad behavior beautiful location
The hotel itself deserves 4 stars.. while lacking in luster it’s decent, clean and in a wonderful quiet location Breakfast is reasonable. I cannot comment about the other meals However the service stands apart ( bellow par) to a level hard to accept I will only refer to this part of the experience 1. Checkin: it was at night and there was only one person doing the checkin switching back and forth between us and another family. It was very slow - took about an hour. At the end of this hour we were told the bellboy would help with luggage. There was a queue of luggage with ours the last one and there wasn’t any bellboy in sight nearby. We skipped the service and found the room by ourself 2. In room service : the person at the reception informed us that we can order room service and would be served in 40 minutes. Called the number. While fumbling for the menu the person called disconnected the call and took a while before the phone became functional again. Our preference on the menu wasn’t available so we ordered something else. We were informed it would take 1 hour. After a bit more than one hour not being served I called and canceled the order. 3. Breakfast.. the part with the outside seating was pretty and set for breakfast. We took the plates and took a sit there. No one came to offer coffee and the coffee wasn’t available at the buffet. We went and asked for some and the waiters didn’t want to serve because “ the outside is closed” . No signs of closure or reserved whatsoever We gave up the coffee and after a while another waiter named Enrique came to us and told us that part was reserved for sales and “ invited “ us to move. This is one of the worst experiences in hotels I ever had having a waiter trying to chase me from the table . In total, although the location is pretty, I would strongly keep away from this hotel.
Such mixed feelings about this resort
We just got back from a good week at the Now Sapphire. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather all week, however we left with very mixed feelings about the resort. I have to say that the best thing about this resort is the staff. We had some of the kindest, most thoughtful service from Alfredo and Frederico in the buffet daily, Diego by the pool, and Porcino and Pedro at the teppanyaki restaurant. The entertainment staff is also top notch: Julio, Karly, Isaac, Katherine, Omar, Luigi, Daniela and Ivan. They are fun and engaging yet not invasive. Our kids loved them by the end of the week. We have stayed at much higher end resorts and have never experienced this level of appropriate attention from the serving and entertainment staff. The resort is newly renovated, so the rooms are nice and we liked the layout. They were also spacious enough for 4 of us to fit, without feeling squished in. The beach area is also above average for the Puerto Morelos area, with little seaweed. We liked the layout and size of the resort and didn’t find anything too far. Now for the negatives. There were a few things that are easy fixes that are usually standard at this class of hotel, and we couldn’t figure out why they haven’t covered these gaps. First, the wifi. It’s not secure and not continuous. So every time you get up to walk somewhere, you drop the wifi connection then have to connect in another area. Honestly, this was the worst wifi we have experienced in Mexico in the last 5 years. In rooms, there were no bathrobes or slippers and only 2 hangars in the closets. Seems a small thing, but such an easy remedy - why isn’t staff just adding this stuff? Also, the restaurant situation. Aside from it being very difficult to get a teppanyaki table, it is also very difficult to get into any a la carte restaurant around 6 when they all open. They literally fill up right away, meaning you need to wait until the next “seating” so you have to just come back in about an hour or more. If you have a larger group, you’re doomed. One of the contributing reasons for this is that they close 2 restaurants each night for dinner. I understand that resorts do this in low season, but if the remaining restaurants can’t handle the traffic, then they should be open. We never made it to Cibu at all because it was closed for 3 nights during our week. Don’t miss the Puerto Morelos bike ride. It’s a great way to see the town and pick up a few souvenirs off the resort. We did have a good visit, but were frustrated on a number of occasions. Thankfully the staff literally does everything in their power to make things good for guests.
Travelled to this resort for the 2nd time last week. Everyone on staff at the resort was pleasant and helpful. Had some trouble with the room reservation, but they were able to handle it. Brought my 4 grandchildren who used the Explorers Club daily. They all loved it. The entertainmant staff went out of their way to make the trip fun for the kids. Service at all of the bars and restaurants was great. This is a great place for families to go and will be even better when they finish working on the outdoor slides
I wasn't going to leave a review, but after reading through a number of these, I thought I should. We overall had a wonderful time here at the Now Sapphire. We went with our two young boys, aged 5 and 3, and it was a beautiful lovely time. I read a review recently about the pool being disgusting because there were kids in it. This is truly the most bizarre thing I've ever read. Now Sapphire is an incredibly family forward, welcoming, resort. They literally cater to children, they have a kids "drink of they day" yet some guests seemed surprised guests showed up toting kids. Perhaps go to a resort clearly marketing toward a adults or 18+ if you csnt stand the sight of children. Because there are LOTS of children here with there families happily enjoying paradise. First, the pool is huge. There's a DJ pumping out music and entertainment happening all the time, so I can't imagine how someone would even find children in the pool "disgusting". We personally kept away from people lounging and respected everyone's space, the pool was so big in fact we rarely came in contact with others. The explorers club was nice, we had our kids go there most morning for a couple hours so we could relax at the pool or beach for a bit. I understand kids could be left there most of the day but we felt more comfortable only doing it a couple hours at a time. They give you pagers and our sonsoced it and usually wanted to stay longer. Very nice staff there. Staff in general were great, always smiling, helpful, and loved when our Canadian kids said "Ola" to everyone they passed. Rooms were beautiful, and recently redone. I agree with other reviews, where there are literally no other places to hang your wet clothes or towels. They wish for you to reuse towels, and we'd happily do so, but there was on small hook by the shower so it was impossible to save towels since they'd never be dry and end up on the floor, still wet the next day. We stayed in a tropical suite, ground floor, and thought it was great. Quiet, and beautiful. Housekeeping was great, but the daily services such as restocking fridge and turndown were hit and miss. If we all rely on bottled water, it becomes cumbersome to constantly have to call ourselves to get the fridge restocked. We never once in our 7 days had the fridge restocked without asking for it. Turndown service I could care less about, honestly, but if it's supposed to be offered it should be consistent.we had it one out of seven nights. One night they knocked on the door at 10:15pm asking if we wanted it, which of course woke my kids and us up. Was a bit odd. The food at first seemed great, but after a few days we were a bit over it. Wasn't as good as we hoped, but also not the end of the world. Room service takes about 45-1.5hrs to get sometimes so plan ahead if you use it. Barefoot grill was nice for burger and hotdogs, and Bluewater grill was good. The buffet seemed actually to have a lot of stuff, but also not, of that makes sense. I'd say overall food was good, but keep in mind if you're bringing toddlers you'll want to plan ahead with room service, make sure you have snacks, and have food ready in your room. The coco cafe was great for this since they had soft Pretzles the kids loved and things like Bana bread, ice cream etc. There's a store on site, but for reference one bag of chips would be about 10usd. Pretty pricey. 5 days into the trip we got hit hard with a serious illness. We originally thought it was food poisoning. We told the front desk, but they didn't seem overly concerned. We later realized it was more like a virus, flu like, so we could have picked it up anywhere I suppose. Not the resorts fault of course. But made for a horrible last couple days while we all vomited and fevered for days, including the long travel day home. Once we checked out and waited two hours for our shuttle, I'd say the resort didn't really bat an eye at us, as in, they knew we were leaving and never once asked if we needed anything, even water. Was a bit disappointed in that sense. I would say we would come back, the property was beautiful, staff were great, now that we know more about the ins and outs of the food we'd just plan ahead more. Maybe go to town and hit a grocery store. Regardless it was a wonderful time. Just please don't come here if you despise children, save yourself the headache you will burden the staff with by complaining, and go elsewhere. Maybe lighten up too. They're kids, not rats.
The good - the pools, the beach and the service at the beach and pools. The bad, ok not really bad but just ok - the food at the buffet and the room. The room was dark and dreary and the maid service was inconsistent. The room was spacious but was poorly lit and did not get enough sun light. But the bottom line is our family had a great time at the pools and beach.
