Pay over price for a mediocre experience
This place is horrible especially the staff at most of the drinks bars - very unfriendly.I guess since this place is all inclusive they treat any order you place for a drink as if you are disturbing them from whatever activity they are doing ...- maybe the hotel does not pay the gratuity to the staff even though you pay them as part of your hotel package. The food at the buffet was mediocre - and there too they didn’t have staff manning the burger station most of the times. There are no waiters that go around by the pool that take your drink/ food orders . You have to go and get it. And the food by the pool - once you order it - it took like an hour for them to make it - not enough chefs at the snack bar by the pool.
My wife and I spent two weeks here recently after having been at the Moon Palace Mexico four years ago, we were expecting the usual quality. The Hotel was a pre-existing affair taken over by the Moon Palace group, totally different from the Mexico one although some of the same qualities are here, staff excellent, food very good, the only negative we can comment on is that the evening entertainment leaves a lot to be desired! Both Franz and Secourya in the Piano bar provide excellent service as does Horace down at the pool bar. Dwayne the Head Chef is also very pleasant and customer focused providing excellent variations on the menu in the Buccaneer restaurant. The Italian "Gondola" was also very good with Wayne providing excellent service on our visits, however the Pier restaurant was hit and miss, the first time it was excellent but the second visit it was a total disaster due to the staff on duty that night! Both the Customer service team and the team that assist with trips were very very helpful. The Boulangerie was a delight to visit every day, again the staff were excellent. The hotel is tired in places and so are some of the furniture etc but they continually strive to improve each area. All in all a really enjoyable trip with loads of memories!
Sidhu at La Gondola Restaurant
When you eat dinner at La Gondola Restaurant, Sidhu will treat you like as if you are the only table eating at that moment. He is friendly, engaging, fun and went out of his way to care for our family.
Overall decent but not what you expect from Palace
We are VIP members and wanted to try Jamaica for the first time. Overall we were disappointed compared to the other Palace resorts. The attitudes of the staff were mixed. Some were very helpful and friendly while others were standoffish. Also we noticed the staff fraternizing much more than México when things needed to be done. Two of the best staff were Franz at the Martini Bar and Rajnae at the beach. Both were top notch and went above and beyond daily. For the most part we were disappointed in the food. We went to the Italian restaurant 2 nights and the service was slow and both times the food was cold and frankly did not taste that great. The dinner by the beach was great as was the Japanese restaurant, but the others were mediocre. Overall we had a nice time but it was disappointing as we were expecting more from Palace.
Moon Palace. Jamaica Disappointment
I have been coming to the Jamaican Sunset Grande since 1988 and kept going back year after year.. so here I am May 2019 returned as it is now the Moon Palace... before I get into the detail.. is the worth the inflated cost.. ABSOLUTELY NO.... We paid £5400 for 14 night's..for 2 people the RIU.. BA PRINCIPLE or any other all inclusive would have cost around £1300... the room, food, drink and entertainment at the Moon Palace is not better than the others.. if anything i would say its not as good in terms of drink and food... the Moon Palace is marketed as a 5 star hotel.. it's a little prettier but not double the price prettier.. First of all was the offer to upgrade for another £1k to get another room with the same view as the one allocated. I didn't appreciate the timeshare pitch as soon as you arrive after 4 hours of travelling.. a 10 hours flight even before being you get your room key.. I have been to a number of these sessions.. CLC.. Interval..etc. What fool buys timeshare in 2019 that died in the 80s. I wouldn't buy it for $1 its not worth it... But what totally killed it for me.. was the terrible main reception bar staff... they ignore you unless you're tipping them $10 per drink... errrr when you paid £2700 per person for all inclusive.. you should not have to tip to get a basic service.. that's disgusting... any discretionary tipping should be after you receive a decent service.. the wifi is rubbish you need to keep walking back to the lift to get signal. We left are room at 7am and returned back at 5pm hoping to get a rest.. the room had not been mad up..The following day when it was cleaned they didnt leave a coffee or sugar in the room, we were supposed to stir our hot drinks with our fingers as no sticks were left.. It was a double room but only had 1 dressing gown.. The beds are big.. but very uncomfortable far too soft .. The 24 hour available food area could be more innovative to include burgers and or pizzas; staff again made you felt it was a chore to heat the sandwiches and when we asked for salad we were told they had run out and this was at 11pm when other restaurants had closed we had the same experience in the momo restaurant whereby they had run out of champagne glasses so we were served one glass to share..... I have nothing good to say about. I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS HOTEL.
