Info you need to know for this 4.5!
I just returned from a 6 day stay in Memories Jibacoa. It was my first time going to Cuba in 14 years and I had forgotten how much I loved many things about this country. I when with Sunwing vacations and paid $1125 for a pool view room which wasn’t too bad considering the single supplement in other countries. Building 18 room 2225 on the second floor was a nice view of the pool and ocean in the distance. There is only one resort close to this one and in general this is a small resort about an hour and a half from varadero’s main stripe. It is a beautiful spot is sub tropical as there is lots of coral right in this beach with tons of fish very close but careful of the jelly fish. I recommend bringing water shoes! There is also some small mountains with vegetation and this hotel offers a mini hike a few days a week which I recommend for the breath taking view. They take you through to some locals with a little farm and there’s a chance to buy some souvenirs. The resort itself is about 20 years old in a two floor villa style. It is older which I loved as it had character... others have called it dated. The rooms have everything you need a safe with key, flat screen with movies, big tub and there was no need of a converter for electrical outlets. Traveling alone I was happy to see some security measures on the sliding door balcony and honestly never felt unsafe here. It is a bit of an older crowd at this resort with no real party nightlife which for me was fine as I came to relax. Don’t get me wrong there were some 20-30s there just depends what kind of trip you are looking for. The nightlife was perfect for what I needed I recommend the aquatic show, the opera and the circus. But my absolute favourite was the upstairs piano bar... like live karaoke! On Wednesday it’s a guy who plays guitar and it was awesome lots of fun everyone sang familiar tunes! The food was good for Cuba. My favourite a la carte was Italian. My favourite chef was Neilson he does the egg and pasta stands! I didn’t eat much of either but I have to say he gave the best service by making a girl traveling alone feel welcome and comfortable! There is only one pool with 2 hot tubs at this resort which is really all you need. I did a yoga class which was fun and a nice way to get moving on vacation. You have to purchase internet cards in Cuba for $1 CUC an hour, they have 1 hour and 5 hour cards. You can rent a classic car for $100 with guide to go to Havana for the day and it’s the same price for up to 4 people, this through the hotel. The only thing I found a bit strange at this resort was the public bathrooms. The one in the lobby was often closed. The one near the Italian restaurant didn’t always have paper and the one near the beach are awkwardly small! There is no washroom near the pool but someone thought they were building one. I would definitely recommend this resort if you are looking for a relaxing place to go... because it’s small I found it was nice as you really got to know people. There were many returning guests who were hugging the staff... the human personal touch definitely brings people back!
My favorite resort staffed by my favorite people!
This was my 2nd trip to this wonderful resort and I have already booked #3! There will be more. All of the staff in every department is incredibly good at making guests feel welcome, comfortable and happy. I'd love to list all the names of the lovely staff that were so good to us, but I'll keep it down to a select few. The exceptional entertainment staff, Yani, Marcos, Yendri, and Victor, who we met last year, were there to greet us again with big warm smiles and hugs. They feel like family and truly go above and beyond to make sure we feel welcome and have lots of fun each and every day. Beach bartender Oralis is a little bundle of joy who keeps people smiling and makes the best Margaritas ever! Evening waiter and disco bartender Yaniol also makes delicious drinks and always greets us with a big smile. My very tall gardener friend who dropped what he was doing and sprinted up the stairs to carry my luggage down also deserves a special thank you. I wish I knew his name. The morning lobby bartenders greet us warmly and make delicious coffees to start the day off right. The chefs and servers do a great job providing tasty food. And of course manager Kiki went out of his way to take care of anything we needed. The evening entertainment is first class every night. We always looked forward to it and were never disappointed. My favorite is Retro Night! The beauty around this resort is breathtaking. Snorkeling is great! And there is a lovely hill right behind the resort you can hike up to take in the lovely scenery. I highly recommend going paragliding. What a thrill! Thank you again for a wonderful holiday Memories Jibacoa! Can't wait till next time.
Ocean View & Diamond Club at this Wonderful Resort!
We really love this resort, been there 5 times. It’s not the newest or the fanciest, but the location, setting, ocean, snorkeling and staff make it feel like a second home. It’s a small resort. The design and layout of the restaurants, amenities and rooms is simple. Many of the staff have been here for several years and work well together. The daily itinerary for entertainment, meals, bars and activities is very well organized, and way more punctual than most of the guests! This last trip to Memories Jibacoa was last minute. We were at the airport literally 36 hours after we booked, and immediately relaxed into the vibe of this lovely resort and its people when our bus transfer pulled in. The perks for Diamond Club are listed on the website. Early check in, late check out, if available. Concierge service in the lobby. Daily water, beer and pop in the room. A la carte breakfast and lunch. Premium alcohol. Designated beach area with a bartender… It may not sound like much, but it’s really awesome! Our Diamond Club bartender Senia was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. Whether you wanted a cocktail, beer or just water, it was service with a smile! She genuinely wanted to keep us in beverages. We were definitely never thirsty! I would recommend bringing travel cups to save on plastic cups and straws. With Diamond Club comes a la carte breakfast and lunch. One of my favourite parts of this was the server Elaine. And of course the food. But it would not be the same without Elaine. She fills the room with an energetic hospitality. The breakfast “mini buffet” arrives at the table with cereals, breads, fruits, yogurt, juice. As you sample that, your ordered breakfast arrives. And it is fast! Don’t think that dining a la carte means you will spend an hour or two sitting at the table instead of on the beach. It is great! Never rushed, but we also never had to wait. The lunch menu choices change daily, and some of the options were definitely cruise menu worthy. The best I’ve had in Cuba! We did not eat at the buffet for any meals. Also with Diamond Club came our manager, Sarah. She is truly made for the hospitality industry. I thank her for all her suggestions and help. Whenever I was in the lobby, I would stop by her office just to say hi. She is really that sweet. There is also a special dinner on Thursday night at the beach grill for Diamond Club members. Surf & Turf! The tables were set for 4, so my husband and I dined with a couple we sat next to on the beach for most of the week. With our little bit of French, and their little bit of English, we had a blast! In addition to the Diamond Club upgrade, we also upgraded our room to ocean view. There’s no going back from an ocean view. As a very early riser, I would be on the balcony reading before the sunrise. It was a delight to see the resort come to life every morning. I would stop at the lobby bar for a cappuccino, then down to the beach I would go to watch the sunrise with all the other early risers. Pretty much the same peaceful group of people every day. Our room was right by the marina/gym. This is where the Diamond Club beach area is. Our housekeeper Juliette was great. Thanks for all your hard work! And regarding the beach, there was absolutely no battle for shaded loungers on the beach. There’s plenty. And bring your snorkels. Right off the beach there’s lots to see. Talking about the gym, if you like a morning stretch/yoga class, as I do, don’t miss it. It seems that whenever we are at this resort, Kenia is leading the class, although she is not the regular instructor. But she is amazing at what she does. I look forward to this every day. Kenia also gives great massages if you want to try out the Spa. I also look forward to seeing either Alizaida or Eduardo at the lobby bar! When I first began coming to this resort, it was Breezes Jibacoa. They had a signature coffee with coffee liquor, rum, milk foam, espresso, and warm milk. Alizaida and Eduardo are specialists at making this drink since they’ve been at this resort for 20 years! The younger bartenders won’t know how to make it. But when Alizaida saw me coming, she would smile and know what I was going to ask for! The entertainment team is fantastic! I wish I could remember all the names! Marcos was everywhere! Another hard worker! He led many of the activities, which led to many prizes! Mylene has been a very engaging member of the staff as well for many years. I always look forward to activities that she is a part of. DO NOT MISS CUBAN DAY if you are at this resort. Friday is a real party, with Cuban day activities and bbq on the beach. Because it rained on the Friday we were there, the party moved to the covered area just outside the lobby. They take Cuban day seriously! The food, drinks, entertainment, dancing, costumes, and energetic vibe felt even more intense in this smaller area than it would have been on the beach. It seemed like every member of the staff joined the party, let loose, laughed, danced, and had a great time. Looking forward to returning!!
Once again a truly awesome trip with 10 of my wonderful Zumba girls to Memories Jibacoa. We visited last year same time and loved it! Thanks to an outstanding leader David who runs the resort and his exceptional staff we had the best time! This resort has so many return visitors thanks to people like Kiki who promptly took care of anything we needed, the incredible entertainment staff who always go above and beyond to keep everyone happy and entertained. Marcos Yani Yendre Victor Augustine Oralis (my favorite beach bartender for margaritas on the Rocks!) and so many more. Sorry if I'm spelling names wrong. You all made our trip memorable. My morning latte girls in the lobby bar and those who remembered my favorite wine in the evenings. My wonderful servers in the restaurants, Nelson my main omelet guy thanks! All our lovely cleaners who always left our room sparkling. My friend Carlos the gardener who always had a smile and hello. You cannot go wrong at this resort folks. Beautiful place, beautiful beach, beautiful people. See you again soon Memories Jibacoa.
Total Relaxation in a stunning setting.
This is the place I come to get away from it all. The scenery surrounding the resort is stunning. The staff and ambiance , in my opinion, cannot be matched . The rooms, although not luxurious, are large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Everywhere around the resort you can find staff taking care of every aspect. The management staff are conspicuous and available. The general manager, David, responds rapidly to any concerns. The food and beverages manager, Miguel, can be seen in the restaurants, not only supervising, but helping out as well. I found the service in the buffet exceptional this time, nothing was too much trouble. I am a very regular visitor. I have been to a couple of other Cuban resorts, supposedly 5 star, but Jibacoa supersedes them all. Just to be greeted every day with such friendly smiles, I wish I had this in my daily life. Kiki and Sarah are available in Guest Relations working calmly and professionally. I wish I could name all the staff to thank them personally for another wonderful trip. See you soon.
