    The best food!

    We booked to go to this hotel after researching what hotels were good for catering to allergies. As a traveller with an allergy it is always a worry with different food. I read a lot of reviews about this hotel and I have to say a lot were negative about the food. I want to put this straight, the food there was some of the best we have ever tasted! When you arrive on the first night you have to eat in the buffet as all the restaurants are pre booked. We were staying on the adult side, I think we paid around £100 extra each for this privilege and honestly it was the best idea we had, so so worth it. We ate in the jasmine restaurant, you eat here for breakfast when staying on the adult side and they do the evening buffet here too. For buffet food we thought it was great and the chef showed me around and showed me what I could eat with a nut allergy. Our favourite restaurant by far was the Picasso restaurant. It was classed as Mediterranean, not sure on exactly what category we would place it under but it was absolutely beautiful. You have to book restaurants in advance, we went here twice it was that good! Other restaurants were: Rodizzio- meat on a spit, one for the hungry ones, you get A LOT but it’s beautiful. You can decline it too if you want to skip a meat. My personal favourite was the cinnamon pineapple at the end, perfection! This is in the adult only section Don pablo French- child friendly, we had steaks here, there are many options like snails if you’re brave but we opted for safety! Nice steaks but not our favourite. The wine was linked well with the food however. Mikado- this was in the child friendly section, a tempanaki bar, there was a table for up to 10 people. They encourage you to get involved with each other and it’s great, it’s a wonderful vibe. You chose your soup and started and then they create on the grill, fish and meat with rice and vegetables. Takes around 90mins from start to finish but entertaining and filling. Takara Asian- adult only. Food was beautiful here. As a nut allergy sufferer, Asian food is always a worry. They were great. I had sushi and bittersweet pork for my main which was beautiful! Nice and lad back as well. Decorated to an Asian theme. Garden grill steak house- we are here twice, to be honest not the best steak for a steak house . Some of the starters were not there but stated on the menu they were. All in all a good meal but there were defiantly better. Dolce vita- Italian. Child friendly. Located on the beach it is a beautiful setting. The night we went there was a power cut so chicken was off the menu. A shame but we appreciated them saying it was best to avoid the chicken. Ever the steak lover, I had steak again and it wasn’t beautiful. The only restaurant that I actually ate three courses in, they were very accommodating to a nut allergy and the waiter was on the ball with this. Because of the power cut, he even gave me a bottle of wine. Instead of a glass! Bottoms up. I am focusing on the food because I think it was such an important part of our trip. We love food but it was reiterated in a lot of other reviews the food was terrible and this really put the dead of god in to me before we travelled. Also I read that the staff are rude...this is not true. If you are pleasant to them they are pleasant to you. Trips we did were: Dunn’s river falls, this is a definite must we thoroughly enjoyed this! We also visited 9 mile. Bob Marley’s town, you can buy weed here, they encourage you too, you feel very safe and why not, you’re in Jamaica! Ye mon Blue lagoon- to be honest it’s not what it’s advertised as (through TUI ) we were under the impression it was a dayat the blue lagoon. In reality we spent half an hour there, went to a banana plantation and had a 3 hour drive home. Ricks cafe and 9 mile- 9 mile was 5 hours on the beach, beautiful but you don’t need that long there. Ricks cafe is fun with the cliff diving. It’s expensive to eat there but make sure you have a go at the cliff diving. We travel a lot and Jamaica is one our favourites. This hotel in particular was so accommodating and fit our needs perfectly. We definitely recommend it!

    Wonderful hotel!!

    We were quite sceptical about our trip to Jamaica and the hotel, but we were not disappointed! The hotel was amazing with multiple restaurants and swimming pools. The hotel had its own small shopping centre, which had reasonable prices and some products were in fact cheaper than in the local town center (Ocho Rios). While there were beach sellers, they really weren't too much of a problem and when you say 'no' they get the message and don't persist. Pros to the hotel - Stunning location and views. Incredible food and choice of restaurants, there was the Jasmin Buffet restaurant which was open everyday for the luxury guests. There are also other restaurants to try and luxury guests can use both the luxury and grand restaurants. We booked to go to the: Asain restaurant, which was our least favourite but the staff were lovely; the Japanese restaurant, which was INCREDIBLE the food was so delicious and it was worth booking to see the chef cook live in front of use; the Italian restaurant, this was fantastic with very friendly and helpful staff and again fantastic food. (All the restaurants you have to book are free of charge). Some restaurants were open without booking for breakfast and lunch which we ended up going to the Rodizio Las Olas restaurant for these meals as it had a wonderful view of the sea. The beaches were amazing and had plenty of sunbeds and there were many access points. The swimming pools were great, there was a swimming pool for everyone, for example a more quiet one, and one with a bar and occasional activities/games. The room was spacious and well decorated. We found no problems with the staff they all seemed nice and friendly! Cons Our room came with a 'garden view'... this was a storage shed and the main road. The cleaning of our room was questionable, on multiple days we wouldn't receive conditioner, shower gel, face cloths or coffee/tea supplies. The luxury swimming pools were lacking pool tiles and there were some patches sparse of tiles, not expected for a 'luxury' hotel. The rooms were not very sound proof as we could hear people walking and talking down the corridors and the pushing of trolley carts or suitcases. Overall we had a wonderful time and if we come back to Jamaica we would definetly stay in this hotel again.

    Infested Bahia Principe Runaway Bay -- NEVER AGAIN!

    I wish I could have given this review an actual 5 star, but I honestly could not because they didn't deserve it. First off, my room was INFESTED with bugs, there were bugs everywhere, not sure if they were termites, but they were various sizes and flying all over! I asked to change the rooms, and they did not change any of the rooms until the end of our stay. Also the other room had a large king bed and 1 cot. Needless to say, two grown men are not going to sleep in one bed, and they paid specifically for two queen beds. The hotel refused to change anything. We were constantly promised that our rooms would be changed, but unfortunately they were not changed until the last night. We were continually told that "it's based on availability". This was unacceptable, but there was nothing I could do about it but write this review. I would not return to this hotel, nor would I ever refer anyone to this hotel. How can a hotel want you to stay and they are not accommodating?! NEVER AGAIN!

    One of the best holidays!! 💃🏼 🇯🇲

    Me, my siblings and Mum & Dad stayed at this hotel in June/July 2019 and we had the most amazing time! We stayed for 14nights and we deffo will be returning. When we first arrived after booking to stay at Grand Bahia we were upgraded for free to the Luxury side which was brilliant. Reception area was always clean and of an evening the Lobby Bar was the place we chilled at after the entertainment till Midnight which is closing time. The staff at the bar were lovely getting us our drinks regularly and making us special shots. Shain & Lateysha were the best!! Entertainment team were so friendly, funny and we looked forward to the Crazy games/shows everyday. Shout out the the DJ’s , Sandy, Sonic, Razor, Larone, Hopelyn and the entertainment team on the Grand Side. The shows are different Dancing Acts, White Beach Party(Saturday) and a Jamaican Themed day&night(Wednesday). Whilst we were there it was International Reggae Day, America Independence Day and Canadian Day in which a live dance band act went round the hotel and continued to play by the pool. This was so good. Also every Wednesday a live Reggae Band play by the Pool. On Thursdays there is a Foam Pool Party! . We stayed in 26309. (My other family members were on 7th floor and another 3rd floor room) The rooms were amazing. Jacuzzi bath, walk in shower and 2 basins!! A massive bed, sofa, table&chairs. Also had a big balcony over looking the pool/sea. I stayed on the third floor. On one of our days we had no towels in which I phoned reception who said it would be 10minutes. 40minutes later I went to reception and asked and then 5mins after towels come! This one bad thing didn’t affect my great holiday as it happened once. The pool area can be slippery so be careful. Also in the pool the little tiles do come away but every morning these were being repaired. You don’t need to wake up early for a bed. We went to the pool at 8:30ish 9am and it was basically empty. The pool bar waitresses done a brill job. Especially Latoya!! The pool bar staff were great and funny. 6 pack & Raymond! The beach is lovely, white sand, clear sea. The best place for snorkelling was the GrandSide. The food here is amazing. You always find something to eat. Considering I can be a fussy eater I never went hungry. We tried most A La Carte restaurants. The best was the Brazilian. You get all kind of meats and the Garlic Bread was AMAZING. All restaurant staff were lovely. And Garfield in the Mediterranean restaurant was quite a laugh! We definitely recommend this hotel and will be returning for Jamaica x2💃🏼🇯🇲

    It’s a no for me...

    My hubby and I booked this hotel for our 10 year anniversary celebration. While this was not the worst place I’ve ever stayed, there is no way this is a 5 star hotel!! Pros: The adult side beach is amazing, very small, private and quiet. The drinks at the hotel are great too. Try the frozen Bob Marley, the Jamaican smile and the frozen banana. The food was great especially at the Japanese restaurant onsite (which you need reservations for). Cons: The room smelled HORRIBLE like mildew or mold. The room was not very clean at all, we asked for housekeeping daily they only cleaned once. We had trash from the garbage spilling over so we emptied it ourselves. Room service took well over an hour and a half each time we ordered (we cancelled the last order it took so long). We had no washcloths (even though we requested them twice). From reading other reviews we knew this was may be an issue and brought our own towels but only brought one wash cloth. The Japanese restaurant is extremely dusty and needs a good thorough cleaning (so do the rooms). Most of the staff are rude. The store where we purchased souvenirs at the hotel didn’t have any bags and we were the first customers of the day. The most troubling thing happened on the day of our anniversary. We had a do not disturb sign on the door and were lying in bed resting late in the day (we had been out early that day). When someone unlocked our door and proceeded to come in with the do not disturb sign clearly on the door. My husband yelled who’s there and the person answered “the Butler” and asked if our refrigerator needed to be restocked (which it had already been restocked.) we will probably not be back, it’s definitely a no for me.
