Punta Cana - Chapter two - Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar.

I love arriving at Punta Cana aerodrome as it is the only one that I have seen that has buildings with thatched roofs. My wife and I had arranged for a 14 night stay at Ambar. We had stayed in Fantasia in 2017 just before the official opening and had greatly enjoyed it. This time we thought that we would try a different and more peaceful zone. Having checked in we were soon taken, by the usual electric buggies, to our ground floor room. We have never been disappointed with the rooms at any of the Bahias that we have stayed in and this lived up to our expectations. Here I must say that the hotel staff were wonderful and really made the holiday for us. There seemed to be nothing that was too much trouble for them. The hotel Manager introduced himself to us at one meal and we were both pleased to report to him just how hard his staff were working at looking after us. The food was excellent, on two evenings we even had lobster as our main course. Breakfasts were wonderful, just about every taste was catered for. We had breakfast a few times at the beach/swimming pool restaurant as this was closer to our room and allowed us to go directly to the beach. Here we usually found a spot under thatched sunshades and settled upon sun loungers. We were soon adopted by one of the beach waiters called Dilson. He took it upon himself to make sure that we were never without a refreshing drink which we both needed as we had clear skies and 30 degree sunshine for most of our stay. Our evenings were spent either watching the entertainment in the Daiquiri Lobby Bar or enjoying a meal at one of the Themed Restaurants. These have to be booked in advance and there is a desk in the Main Lobby where you can do this. On the morning of our departure we had a tropical storm and rain came down in buckets. However storms in that lattitude tend to be short lived although some areas of the hotel complex were under water for a short time. Fortunately this did not delay our flight home and we arrived at Gatwick to typical English weather. Oh Well, there is always the next holiday to look forward to.

Big Hotel-Beautiful Beach but overall I was disappointed.

Travelled Oct 31, 2019 Good: Grounds are beautiful, the beach is excellent. Very little sargassum. Beach restaurant excellent. Room (67117) great with a swim-up pool. Private transfer to the hotel was fast, wristbands for keys were outstanding, check-in was quick, lots of trams to get where you wanted to go. I liked the speakers on the paths with the music. Shows were typical but entertaining; you had to figure out what was where. Sports Bar was fun, service and speed impressive. Food stops at 10, but the wings were outstanding. The coffee shop was great; Luis was hilarious. Bad: Watersports was not open due to weather but then opened for two days with similar conditions, not sure why it was windy the whole time. Alcohol seemed to be watered down, service was ok, but you needed to tip. If you need to change your money, go to the bartenders. Butlers were friendly but found them ineffective with restaurant reservations. The main buffet needs a floor manager, multiple waiters served me, and it was not clear who my waiter was, so service was not consistent or high quality. A la cartes were disappointing, food is very subjective, but Limbo was the worst, Meat was ok, and Italian was mediocre. Hotel App did not work, but I used the website so I could get information. The bed was very hard. Ugly: NO COFFEE until 7 a.m.? I ordered from room service, and the milk was curdling. I just gave up. Not hard to set up one place early. WIFI was a yoyo. Too many people, the hotel shifted everything to maximize profits, but when you go on the off times, you don't want everyone upgraded to one area. Towel game was full-on. 5-6 am if you want a front row. If not, you can have your pick behind at 11. Sunset was at 6:30; then it was a ghost town until 9. Don't wait to reserve your restaurants, email the hotel early, and either some restaurants were closed or had no reservations available once we arrived. There was no beach volleyball for Amber, the last day I saw a game down at Fantasia, I think. The entertainment staff was not on the beach. Overall, 2nd trip to Bahia in DR and again, I was disappointed. Price was right, but I will not return to this chain.

    Excellent 2 weeks vacation.

Just got back from this fantastic hotel. Check in was quick although not to sure of the reason for briefing before check in. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean, some problems with the coffee pot but sorted by Winston the butler very quickly. Towels and mini bar checked and replaced if required every day. Even though it is a big hotel all rooms are only a short walk either from pool or bar. Then main restruant “Palmyra” offers a huge selection for all 3 main meals, service usually very quick although during busy periods did have to wait for a short while a couple of times. Limbo restruant I am afraid none of our party of 4 enjoyed this, service was very slow meal not what we expected. Must say that the starter was excellent. Portofino restruant excellent, went back twice. MEAT restaurant also exceptional. Arreciffe beach bar really very good head barman Wendy deserves a mention was very efficient and friendly. Daiquiri bar, waitresses were very quick rarely had to wait very long for service. The only thing we missed here was a quiet area where we could play cards and chat. This was the area where most shows were put on usual hotel fare. There is no raised stage and so difficult to get a good view if you arrive late. Coffee shop, excellent coffee and a good selection of cake to go with it, nice A/C. Pool is a very good design with swim up bar, shallow end, jacuzzis etc. The entertainment staff here work very hard. I have never seen so many people join in the pool workouts. Unfortunately the music was too loud for us and especially at the Saturday foam the choice was awful. I think they call it gangsta lots of swearing etc. (We are all over 60 in our party). Gym has really good equipment. Finally I would recommend this hotel to anyone, we will definitely return next year.

    Maybe our new favorite resort

My wife and I vacationed at the Ambar for 10 days. We were booked at the Aquamarine, but upon arrival we were upgraded to the Ambar. We were very pleased to be upgraded. We were escorted to a meeting room where we were all greeted and quickly provided an RF wrist band that opened our door and linked us to a terminal to book our reservations, and other services. Great not to have to carry a key card. The Ambar was recently renovated and was excellent, clean and vast. We have traveled extensively and stayed at several different Grand Bahia, RIU and other resorts. Our favorite was the GB Sian Kaan in the Mayan, Mexico. The Ambar has surpassed it with similar quality, appearance, restaurants, and service; but the beach is right in front of you at the Ambar. The restaurants were incredible. Keep Tuesday for the seafood buffet. The Portofino had the most amazing salad, pizza and signature cooktails. We actually took our leftovers with us and at them the next day at the airport. The M.E.A.T. was a meat lovers dream. The wings, burger, roast chicken and meat skewers were delicious. The beach and pool are great. We have never spent so much time in the water. The foam party on Saturday should not be missed. The surf-yoga was tried by my wife and I laughed my #ss off. I should have joined in. The Coffee House was awesome and the service by Massiel, Jendry, Maridalia, Yubelkis and the guy who was "my family forever" was heart warming and a great way to start the morning. EXCELLENT.
