We just got back from our holiday and i have to say we really enjoyed our stay at Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar. From day 1 we experienced excellent customer service, the check in/check out process was very smooth and we didn't have to wait around etc. The room we stayed in exceeded our expectations: it was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathtub inside the room was a nice touch for romantic couples... Food was remarkable - we mostly ate at buffet restaurants which offered plenty of options to choose from and the food quality was very good. Drinks were also of good quality, particularly at the Lobby Bar as we've noticed they add more alcohol in cocktails and they are prepared more carefully. We really enjoyed the fact that the management paid attention to detail: e.g. every little thing was being cleaned; broken pavement pieces (unnoticeable) were being replaced, etc. Also, we liked the fact that the manager inspects every restaurant, facility, the pool, the beach, etc. on a daily basis. However, there were 2 things we didn;t really like: 1. The pool water was way too warm and this is not ideal in that hot weather as you dip in the pool expecting to cool down...sadly, that wasn't the case... 2. As much as i appreciate the fact that the salaries are very low, tipping the staff members becomes a bit of a problem when you stop doing it... we tried to tip everyone who we really felt was working hard and deserved that tip. However, when we didn't do it, there was a noticeable change in the service provided. It's as if the staff expect to be tipped and if you don't do it, they change their behaviour (i.e. they don't bring you water/coffee etc. as often and don't talk as nicely to you as they did during the first encounter). It was really obvious that customers who tipped received a better treatment than the others, which sucks, because you can't tip everyone and, after all, you paid for good service which shouldn't be influenced by giving tips. Also, if you tip someone, please don't forget about other staff members (guys who spend their entire days in the sun, cleaning the beach, pools and so on) as they are often left unnoticed - the bar/restaurant/maids etc. receive most of the tips... All in all, it was a very good experience and i really recommend this hotel.
Our first long haul holiday for sometime, this place has luxury in mind. A really good sized room, junior suite, with a fantastic shower. Your room is replenished each day with good bathroom products and the mini bar with a good selection. The staff are amazing, must mention Albania from management team, Albert from the lobby bar, Noel from beach restaurant, Nically lobby bar waitress, the General manager and his assistant manager, all the management are engaging and check each day if everything is going well, we had one minor issue which as sorted out immediately, each villa houses around 16 suites which have a butler, they book the al acarte restaurant for you, although you can download the app and do yourself, it’s very easy to do. There is a good selection of food at the buffet restaurant too. The place is kept really tidy and clean, all the staff are friendly, and the pool cleaner works very hard too. We went TUI premium, which means with extra leg room on board, access to airport lounge, if you wished you don’t have to spend a penny after leaving home, although we took $1 bills so you can tip the team as you see fit. One point I would make any smokers aware buy your cigarettes before you arrive as they are $10 per pack. Overall a good experience and sure we will be going again
I would like to start this review by saying a big thanks to Orlando the manager at the Amber you are a credit to the Bahia principe group. We wanted to transfer from the bavaro and we came to see you and you sorted everything out for us. The hotel is fantastic. The restaurants and the buffet restaurant are great. We had a room with a swim up pool 62109 that also had a butler service. The beach and the pool are awesome and it’s so relaxing. There’s a company in the lobby called coming2 that do tours. I would strongly recommend you don’t use these because we had the trip from hell to Saoma island full of drunks and nearly a fight on the boat coming back. This nightmare company were not interested when we complained so please avoid them. If you want to do trips use your holiday company or if your on the beach see Francisco who works for the scuba aqua centre he’s a great guy who will give you a good deal and because they do trips through Bahia principe there ok. Thanks to all the staff at the amber you are truly amazing and you made our holiday a fantastic experience
50th birthday celebration
Wow what can I say...... a fantastic holiday. The rooms are superb if you have the chance of a corner room grab it the rooms are much bigger and the math is massive. Beds are huge and very comfy. Pool is great and beach very near. Pool bar can be a bit slow to get served but your on vacation so you will get your drink soon enough. The new sports bar, coffee shop and gym are a fantastic addition to this superb hotel. Restaurants - buffett is great especially the gala night. Limbo have just the best cocktails get there early before your reservation and have some cocktails in the bar a fantastic experience. Portifino great service, drinks and food. MEAT is one of the best restaurants that I've eaten in, the crab cakes are amazing. What really makes this hotel special is the staff they can not do enough for you, my butler was Starlin who really was one of the best butlers I have ever known and I am a frequent traveller. He really went out of his way to make my birthday and our vacation very special, a real STAR. We also were helped by Carmem, Francisco and Horam who were also great butlers. In the buffet restaurant Ezequiel always had a smile and a table waiting for us. Pablo the hotel manager and his assistant managers, Albania, Tatiana and Averlto (sorry if I've mispelt the names) are the best hotel management team I have ever seen they are there at breakfast, dinner and evening in the buffet and a la carte restaurants going round tables asking if everything is okay. They genuinely want to ensure you have a great time. Well done to Pablo for leading his team he certainly is an outstanding manager. I can not wait to go back here it Is certainly the best bahia hotel I've been to and I've been to many in Dominican, Jamaica, Tenerife and Mexico.
Great overall stay
This is a lovely hotel but just needs a few small improvements to make it a great hotel. This is our 4th time in the Dom Rep, however, the last time we went was 10 years ago. The biggest change we noticed is there now seems to be a very obvious tipping culture which wasn't apparent when we last went. Shame as it has had an impact on how some of the staff treat you. Despite that, we had a lovely holiday. Some minor issues are: Buffet restaurant: Need more staff to meet and greet and show you to your table. Where no one was available, we had to find our own table which sometimes weren't set, we then had to wait for cutlery and glasses. Then wait again for someone to take our drinks order, which sometimes arrived in good time and sometimes not. Just need to be more organised Rooms The rooms are lovely but turn-down service and mini bar refilling is inconsistent Other than that we really couldn't fault it!
